Regarding: Spectating, Fly Mart, Early Check in, Video Coverage

At this time spectating at this year’s Seviren Lang Memorial will be permitted free of charge. Spectators will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines as well as practice proper spectating etiquette. On Friday July 17, there will be an informal fly mart at Seviren Lang from approx. 5-7pm. This will be an opportunity for locals and touring pros to meet and showcase unique discs and memorabilia. I will also be on-site to distribute amateur player’s packs early to those signed up to play. Players unable to make this time will still be able to pick up their packs prior to the start of Round 1. Again, safe social distancing must be practiced during this time.

Lastly, I’m pleased to announce we have teamed up with multiple video production companies for post-round footage on top of having Nick Butler return on camera.

Regarding: General Update & Registration

This year’s Seviren Lang Memorial is shaping up to be a memorable event. This is the event’s 10th anniversary and the second year being a sanctioned A-tier.

Considering the effects of COVID, I wasn’t sure this event was going to happen. Several other quality events during this scheduled date have been canceled. The state of Indiana as well as the support of both park systems involved in this tournament has given us the green light and we are going for it!

Obtaining sponsors has been a challenge this year as many previous sponsors are small businesses which have been hit hard by the shutdowns. With that said, we still have dedicated and faithful believers in this event. Thanks to their help we have more than raised enough funds to meet the minimal added cash and can guaranteed a min of $4,000 added cash to the professional divisions. We will still be searching for support until the start of the event.

Registration this year is unexpected. As we plan and set high expectations, the reality is that we have not seen this volume and speed of registration. Our desire is to hold a quality event. One of those factors we chose is to try and keep the cards to a maximum of 4 players. We feel that will allow the tournament to run faster and smoother in efforts to keep players playing and not waiting around. We understand that reduces our capacity however, based on the event’s history we’ve felt the current pool assignments provide both growth and sustainability as we can continue supporting the local disc golf community. Without those people this event would not be the event that it is today.

To my regret, there will be some who will inevitably not get in this tournament. We desire to have big divisions and competitive play to as many as players as we can safely support, however that is something that has to grow. Our club tries to be proactive and learn each year so we can be better. Each year this event is held we learn something. From the time registration is opened until the last check is sent we are reviewing and looking for ways to improve. Next year will be even better.

Lastly, I want to thank those have and are supporting this event. I’ve been approached by several individuals this year who want to help and volunteer WITHOUT even asking. You guys are awesome!
