Comeon meow canyon view course was... the best idea we ever had

Mr CLEAN   February 16 at 7:40pm

I wreckin we could always go across the street and hit the old tone poles over there.

Rick Saffeels   February 17 at 9:19pm

Your right Lee haha!

Mr CLEAN    February 15 at 6:49pm

We loved playing with new basketa today. Always loves this course and now its even better.
Now if we could just figure out how to keep them DAM disrespectful litterbugs from being there typical toolbag selves

Scott Bresee   1 day ago

I've added a collapsible laundry basket to my bag, works great for getting all the trash off a course in one round. I have a hard time understanding how someone just throws their garbage on the ground, I blame it on poor parenting, lol.

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley    February 15 at 3:33pm

Basket installation is completed and the course is now reopened. Minor polishing updates to the course will be done in next week or so. (Tee markers with distance, etc).

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley   February 15 at 3:38pm

Who's going to be the second person to throw the new baskets?

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley    February 13 at 11:39am

The OSH Salem campus basket installation is starting this morning (Monday 13th). Please be respectful of the grounds maintenance crew and the work they are doing for us as they complete this project over the next few days.

Jim Costello   February 15 at 12:34pm

I rode through yesterday to check on the progress. I don't want to sound alarmist, but it looks like they're ruining the course. Several poles have been relocated to within a few yards of the next tee, and some are now within feet of asphalt (O.B.?). I don't want to hit people when pl ... more

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley   February 15 at 12:54pm

The tone poles are being used as tee pad markers. No basket placement or tee area is moving.

Jim Costello   February 15 at 1:30pm

That is excellent news. What a relief! Thanks for the update.

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley    February 7 at 10:47am

I have received an installation timeline from our grounds maintenance department for the baskets! Currently scheduled for Monday/Tuesday the 13th and 14th of this month. Hopefully there will not be any more delays.

Jim, no basket has been moved to a new location. They went into the holes the tones came out of. Tee pads are also in the same places. Per arramgement with Salem Historical nothing actually moved.

Jim Costello   February 15 at 1:33pm

Cool. Really, really cool, actually. Thanks. :)

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley   February 15 at 1:54pm

Hope you enjoy the baskets. Look forward to all input when they are done.

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley    July 28 at 10:23am

I have finally managed to get the funds from the hospital for the remaining 8 baskets for the OSH Salem course. They have been ordered by Tiger Discs (Thanks Roger). I will update here when we have them on campus and get ready to install them.

Thats a cool idea.

Brandon Zastoupil   July 28 at 9:23pm

so there will also be a tee 2 tee course, awesome

Bryan B   July 31 at 12:51am

Can't wait. Any way I can help, let me know. As should the others who play at lunch.

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley    November 10, 2015 at 2:57pm

A heads up to anyone playing the OSH course over the next few days. An arborist has evaluated several trees on our campus and they apparently have "Thousand Canker Disease". The removal process for the afflicted trees is scheduled to start today and be done before the weekend. The only area of play that may be affected is an area near the tee pad for 9th hole.

Rick Saffeels   November 10, 2015 at 10:27am

Thanks for the heads up! I was just thinking about you last night and how the course is progressing let me know if you need anything!

Nico "Putta Smooth" Lagaso    September 2, 2015 at 6:46am

So has anyone else noticed a bunch of other tone poles in the field of the hospital but on D St??

Nico "Putta Smooth" Lagaso   September 3, 2015 at 2:26am

That's awesome, are the teepads concrete like at the museum?

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley   September 3, 2015 at 11:52am

No. The north side is still unimproved as far as teepad areas.

Nico "Putta Smooth" Lagaso   September 4, 2015 at 8:44pm

Are there tees at all? Old wood planks?

Paul Edwards    June 27, 2015 at 3:36am

My son found a iPhone on the fairway of hole one if its yours get ahold of me.

Jacob Pratt    June 11, 2015 at 3:58pm

The basket has arrived! We played yesterday just as it was being installed. It looks like a MachX spray painted a rust color.

We are looking at a few options for the old tone poles. I was hoping to possibly get the tones sent over to Maclaren in exchange for number plates for our baskets made by their kids in the metal shop. If they are not repurposed onto another state site, they would end up at the state surplus auction. I am trying to avoid having that happen.

Jim Costello   June 12, 2015 at 11:43am

As a touch of history for the course, the tone bells would make neat hole markers at each tee. :)

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley   June 12, 2015 at 11:47am

I like your idea Jim. I will toss that out as an option we should keep open.

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley    June 5, 2015 at 7:03pm

A heads up to anyone playing the state hospital course over the next week. The tone pole on hole 9 has been removed as of this morning. There is a ground sleeve in concrete that has replaced it. The basket will be locked onto the sleeve next week.

Nice work and know you've been working on it for long time. Hope all goes well with the rest of project

Mark McKeever   June 5, 2015 at 8:19pm

cool finally.

Grape Ape   June 6, 2015 at 10:19pm

Very cool Jeff!

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley    January 29, 2015 at 2:43pm

The Oregon State Hospital employee wellness committee cut me a check yesterday for the first basket to upgrade our course. A DGA Mach X has been ordered. Once installed I can show the folks I am asking for money what they will be paying for. And yes, that unfortunately means some folks I work with do not know what disc golf is. They will overcome their deficit and learn.

Brady, The basket is sitting in our facilities department waiting to be installed. I do not have a date on when the work order to install it be completed. I have been denied on my request to install it myself. I am really hoping it is soon. I also have a meeting with a few of our administrators on Monday 01 June to discuss the tee signage.

Mark McKeever   June 2, 2015 at 12:09pm

Jeff how did the meeting go yesterday, any updates on the new basket install and the singage. going back and reading some older posts I see that there might be a art contest for a disc logo, missed that post but interesting at that is there any entry rumors on what it might look like.

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley   June 2, 2015 at 4:44pm

Plan is in place for the tee signs to be made by our pt pay program. Just need to finalize how they will be made with voc services dept director.Yes, we plan to have a disc logo design contest for our patients to enter artwork for. The discs will be given out at the tournament we are planning for after the course gets completed.

Jim Costello    September 29, 2014 at 4:02pm

So I've heard rumors about baskets going in sometime this fall. Any updates on when, and whether help is needed installing? I live a few blocks away, and would love to help! But I imagine since it's state property, no help will be needed, or at least not without a fair amount of red tape.

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley   September 29, 2014 at 1:41pm

Your rumor is correct. I have been working on upgrades for over a year. The red tape has been an amazing journey. We have full approval of the hospital administration, the city of salem, the historical society, and the NE Salem community association. After a brief setback with a basket manufacturing outfit, I am currently getting quotes from other sources.

Tiger Discs   September 30, 2014 at 1:40pm

lol. Yes

Jim Costello   October 2, 2014 at 11:22am

Awesome. Thanks for the update.

Tiger Discs    September 26, 2014 at 9:49pm

Due to a scheduling conflict Tri Lambs will be at the Oregon State Hospital this Sunday!!!!! Mark your calendars and we'll see you Sunday!!!

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley    August 26, 2014 at 7:32pm

I have layed out a back nine using the same tone poles as the front nine. Tees are marked and numbered in blue chalk. Input/alternate ideas are much appreciated on creating the alternate tee areas. As a rule from Salem Historical Society, I cannot place gravel, concrete, rubber mats , pavers, etc to create new tee areas I must use existing pavement. I will post a map in the next day or so with what I came up with. As I mentioned, suggestions are very welcomed.

Brady "Church" Reese   August 26, 2014 at 4:09pm

i think hole 8 teepad (next to sign w center st at ur back - hyzer shot) should be moved to sidewalk parallel to 24th st with straight shot up the middle through tree tunnel kool lookin and fun shot.

Jason "Rooster" Bruster   August 26, 2014 at 6:44pm

Ill give you a call Jeff... I have a ideas

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley   August 26, 2014 at 7:57pm

Thanks folks and keep ideas flowing. I uploaded a preliminary back nine map to hole 10's photo slot. It shows where the chalked tees are at for now.

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley    July 11, 2014 at 7:57pm

If the person who has been painting the orange arrows at the tone poles would please stop, it would be greatly appreciated. You may feel you are helping out, but it is causing issues with our Grounds Supervisor and technically it is vandalism as you were not authorized to do so.

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley   July 11, 2014 at 5:07pm

I agree Silas. I was not going to mention it and just let the paint wear off, but then I recieved a phone call about it. And I hate getting an earful of anger for someone elses stupidity.

Silas Prince   July 11, 2014 at 5:52pm

I hear ya, Jeff. Sucks when you have to bite the bullet on someone else's screw up. It's just the lack of common sense displayed that blows me away. It stands to reason that if you alter a course ON HISTORICAL GROUND, that it probably won't be too long before it's shut down. I'd surely like to see the course evolve, not die!

Grape Ape   July 11, 2014 at 7:12pm

^^^ I agree!

Mark McKeever    July 6, 2014 at 4:09pm

heading over to play around or 2 at 10:00 or so if any one want to come

Jeff "MaxPsych" Heltsley    July 3, 2014 at 9:22pm

Our course has officially been grandfathered in by the Salem Historical Society! That means less red tape and no application fees to continue with my project of upgrading this course to a set of Bentley baskets.

That sounds good can't wait to see the course transfomation, are there any plans in the works for the tones as they get replaced like making the north course playable or a new course south on the back side by the prison maybe, it would be a shame to not reuse them some where.

Silas Prince   July 4, 2014 at 12:28pm

Awesome work, Jeff. And double to what Jeff said. Those tones are real fun, and I'd still like a chance to ring them from time to time. Any plans for them?

Silas Prince   July 4, 2014 at 12:28pm

*double what MARK said...

Silas Prince    May 28, 2014 at 1:45am
