I just saw that an extra team was added to recreational recently. My teammate and I signed up for intermediate even though it's a division above where we should be playing skill-wise because recreational was full at 72 at the time. Is it possible for us to be added/switched to recreational since another team was added to it? If not, we're happy to stick in intermediate and are just happy to have the chance to go out and play doubles competitively. Thanks!

Please read this FAQ from INNOVA

Re: Other information from INNOVA's USDGC Double's Team Leader !!!

All players must meet one of the following criteria in order to be eligible to compete in the USDGC Doubles Main event:

o Player is not a PDGA member or does not have a player rating and has never accepted cash in a PDGA event.

o Player has an Amateur Player Classification with the PDGA - meaning the player is classified as an amateur and plays in amateur divisions for prizes ... more

The number of teams that can qualify for the USDGC Doubles Main Event is based on the number of teams that participate in your qualifier. The thresholds are as follows.

o 0-14 teams = 1 Team qualifies

o 15-24 teams = 2 Teams qualify

o 25+ teams = 3 Teams qualify

This might be my partner's first tournament. Is it ok to use my tournament experience/judgment in signing us up for the same division if I believe that is accurate? He just got a PDGA number but may not play a tournament before June. Thanks.

Your partner would be considered Recreational, if he is has never played a tournament. If you (Devon) are the better of the 2 of you, then you would signup in the division according to YOUR skill level. You must play to the higher level division of the 2 partners.

Devon Bossingham   April 9, 2021 at 1:46am

Right, got it. I am currently a novice player that will probably be pushing the bubble into rec when my rating updates, so we should be good in rec. Thanks for the response.

Per PDGA Guidelines....You must play to the HIGHER partners skill-level division. If a player on a team is rated ADVANCED, & the other RECREATIONAL...the team MUST register as ADVANCED.

Reminder: MIXED is considered an Amateur division. If you classified as PRO, but have a rating <970, you can still qualify for that division.

Is there a qualifier spot up for grabs within the Mixed division? Or just the overall lowest scores in the whole event, regardless of your division? Thanks

Jay Svitko   April 7, 2021 at 4:38pm

All divisions are playing for the qualifier. You are playing against the course par, so whomever shoots best score against their courses played will qualify.....More teams, more qualifying winners

Joshua Terwilleger   April 7, 2021 at 5:38pm

Awesome! Thanks for the clarification

Devon Bossingham    April 1, 2021 at 1:31am

I've never done a sanctioned doubles tournament--just wondering how that works. Is it still best shot, or is it a different format? Thank you.

Jay Svitko   April 1, 2021 at 2:07pm

Both rounds are best shot format.

Jay Svitko    March 30, 2021 at 9:34pm

The current player limit on MA1 & MPO is so that they can both play together on 1 course. If there is more of the draw for the MA1 division, the same amount will be reduced from OPEN division to keep the limit of the combined players in MPO & MA1 at 36 teams (72 players MAX.)
