Thanks to all who worked so hard on this course and tournament. All you following this thread, An encouraging email to the parks department and cities could really go a long way towards approval of a permanent course. I will post a link with their contact info

Very good idea. Look forward to see the link. Thanks!

Well done tourney, Larry (and all who helped). Hopefully the comment sheets will still be enough to convince the township that a disc golf course is a worthy addition to the park.

My recent profile post: West Michigan has momentum in the growth of discgolf that can make this area what Silicon Valley is to IT. New evidence of this is found in Berrien Co. in two parks off Exit 28/ I 94. Benton Township Park yesterday featured a temporary course and a small gathering of players who responded to the hopeful invitation of Larry Leonardi and friends. With another established park accross the beautiful St.Joseph River (Riverview), a venue for major tournaments can be imagined. ... more

We were trying to find that one for a while as well. I was wondering if you could give an approximate distance from the corner, and also any idea if it flew in, or rolled in, and about how high up if it flew in. I'll see if I can locate that one as well.

Fred Vocino   October 20 at 1:58pm

I suspect the long grass that is off to the left past the treed area about 250' from tee. That bent-over grass acts like a comb-over on a man's head. Shave the head and find the spot (disc).

Chad Cole   October 20 at 2:20pm

I'll give it a go. :)

I had a great time, and would love to see this course become a permanent fixture to Benton Park. We really need a good local course, and a I believe Larry's design was well executed throughout. Huge props to all Larry and those that helped him and showed up for this event. :)

I had a great time yesterday. Thanks to Larry and everyone else that helped out and made this event possible. looking forward to future tournaments. Congrats to all the winners. and thanks to all the people that showed up to support a great cause. The weather turned out great and the course setup was really fun. on a side note maybe requiring pre registration payment on Events like this would get people that registered to show up. All in all. an awesome day with great people that did make it.

I know Larry has it. I'll make sure he gets the phone number above ASAP so he can get it back to you.

Thanks Chad! I talked with Larry and we will be happily reunited soon

Dave Davies    October 19 at 9:07pm

Thanks for setting up the course Larry, it was a lot of fun today. I know you won't give up and will still fight to get a course established for the area - as long as I am available you can count on me showing up to help support your efforts. *** side note *** If anyone came across an orange pearly orc with a custom dye on it in hole 6 fairway, give me a shout, reward available!!!

Sorry to say that we tore that place up last night looking for your disc and then looking for another with no luck. We even brought in an industrial leaf blower from my wife's work, while I used a garden rake to sift through the taller grass. It still baffles me as to what could have happened to your disc. Makes absolutely no sense.

Chad Cole   October 22 at 8:36am

We eventually put all of that away and headed over to where another disc was lost, using flashlights to hopefully hit the dis with enough light where it might actually glow (glow disc). Stayed out there from 6 to a little past 8:30 with no luck. Poor guy (John) drove all the way down from Grand Rapids to look for it as well, and they were still out there when we finally left. :(

Dave Davies   October 22 at 9:05pm

Wow, that is quite the effort you put into helping someone out that you just met. The fact that you went to such lengths to try and find it makes me okay with losing it. Thank you for trying, you guys have a great community of discers down there, I will be glad to attend future tournaments to help you get a course established.

Dave Brunsting    October 19 at 5:18pm

Larry, you did a great job with this. Holy crap was that course well set up. Sorry I didn't stick around to help finish tearing down but with working 14 days straight and this is the first day off I'm kinda tired.

Well there you have it. That's why we will NEVER get another disc golf course in this area when all anyone has to do is SHOW UP for a freaking tourney and play 2 rounds on a awesome temporary course. Not do any clearing, setting up, tearing down...just the bare minimum: show up. The showing from the locals was really really pathetic today and words cannot express how disappointed I am. I do not EVER want to hear any bitching whatsoever from anyone EVER about not being able to get a new disc ... more

I am also sympatheric to the frustration the organizers must have felt. Your fellow Berrien Co. players are like any other collection of individuals, only a few have the vision and energy to make things happen. When a leader finds himself without followers, the question is less about changing the fo ... more

Chad Cole   October 20 at 9:37am

I understand your frustration, Dave, but we can't lose hope. Instead, we now know for certain that a good course can be added to the park. This is only round one, my friend. The fight isn't over. Larry is determined to get a course added to the area that will bring in disc golfers from local players ... more

Tried to register for Advanced Grandmaster, but it did not have the option at payment page...change it if you'd like. It actually does not matter because I cannot make it over from Chicago anyway...have to work. Signed up to lend support for the tourney and possible new course close to my in-laws. Good luck and have fun everyone! ~jake jacobs

I just discovered the little white box that appears on the Google Maps Larry has provided. Its in the upper-left corner. Touch it and see 1 thru 18, and then touch a number and the arrow pointing to the basket location (presumably) will appear on the map. Pretty cool.

Fred Vocino   October 16 at 12:56pm

Oh man! Its even better. You can touch any where on the green line and find the distance from the tee. I gotta learn this way to manipulate the satelite maps for other courses. It should standard info on every course page.

Fred Vocino   October 18 at 1:47pm

Looks like river bank OB occurs on 1, 2, and 15: 1 if over shooting, 2 if tee shot goes far left, 15 if tee shot goes far right. Everybody has a chance to get wet. Smart!
