Every Tuesday in October I will be lighting the baskets for $5 glow dubs. Meet at sunset, tee off shortly after.

With the sun setting at 7:24 in the beginning of the month and 6:40 by the end you can come out and still make it to bed on time!

I am helping a dad collect used, beginner friendly discs his son's little league team can have. Max Pluene is a ten year old disc golfer who shot the Shore Acre Open, Farm City Classic, and Michigan state finals last year at nine. He wants to get more his age playing disc golf and competing in the Jr. Divisions. Max's dad is coordinating a time Max can share disc golf with his little league team. I'm asking you to help provide the plastic.

This is a great opportunity to 'pay it forward', and 'grow the sport'. Anyone who has played for a few years has discs they no longer throw. Let's recycle some plastic, and get the younger generation playing less video games and spending more time outside! It would be awesome to see half a dozen or more juniors compete at the Shore Acres Open in August.

Here's what I'm doing to sweeten the pot.
( like growing the sport, and payin it forwards not sweet enough). Anyone who donates a disc will be entered into a raffle for a disc golf item your going to want. For every ten discs donated I donate a raffle item. I collect 30 discs 3 people win a raffle.

I'll be collecting discs this Tuesday 06/16 from 3 till 6. I'll pull the raffle winners, and post the results on fb before I tee with the last card.

Stat of the day:
Today we'll take a look at standard deviation of scoring per hole (on yellow pins) to see which holes play consistent from week to week and which ones vary.

My first assumption is that wind holes would likely see the most variability from week to week...Holes 1 and 2 seem to be the most affected by the wind. According to data from preseason through week #3, believe it or not, Hole #18 is seeing the largest change in scoring from week to week with a standard deviation of 0.261. Maybe it has something to do with the trees along the right side of the fairway? Maybe they are like the apple trees from the Wizard of Oz coming to life to deflect discs on certain days. To no surprise, holes #1, and #2 round out the top 3 with #2 coming in at 0.236 and #1 with a 0.218.

Conversely, which holes play the most consistent? My guess would be hole #10 given that it is mostly open and short in distance...or maybe #4? Another surprise, hole #14 plays the most consistent from week to week with a standard deviation of 0.077. In 2nd with a 0.081 is #10 followed by #6 with a 0.090.

Please note that my stats will be delayed one week as Zach takes the cards home on Tuesday evening and records the scores on here. He then gives me the cards the following Tuesday for me to calculate the averages. I do stats well...my disc golf game, not so much!

If someone is on the pad and you walk in front of me, out of respect for the game, I am not going to say anything and that person is going to miss out on their picture/video. So please, watch for me when you walk up to each hole!

I have decided to do photography again this year! I had SO much fun with it last year and am really excited about this year! I am curious though, if there would be any interest in donating for a new lens that would allow me to sit a little further away from the action while getting better pictures, and also allow me to track your disc better when doing video. The only reason I'm asking for donations is because this isn't something I would buy for my personal use. This is totally up to you guys, it's just an idea I had.

The lens I have picked out is $399 (which, unfortunately, is about as cheap as they come). My current lens is 18-55mm, this lens is 55-300mm. If I can raise at least half ($200) in donations, I am willing to pay the rest out of pocket. Last year, we had about 80 league members, if everyone were to make a donation, it would only come out to $2.50 per person.

If I get enough interest, and I do not meet that goal, I will use the money raised to do something awesome with your pictures at the end of the year (player cards, photo books, etc) or donate it back to the league. We'll cross that bridge if/when we get there. If we do decide to do this, I will set up a donation jar at the league party, and any donation made, even if it's just the nickels and dimes out of your pocket, will be greatly appreciated.

Again, this is just an idea I had and not something that I need to continue to do photography, it will just improve it. The choice is all yours. I'm not begging for your money, nor am I going to decide not to do photography if the idea gets shot down. I am aware that you all are paying good money to be part of the league, especially the early birds, so I do understand if you don't wanna cough up any more money. Regardless, I'm excited to get back out there and spend Tuesdays with the always entertaining Shore Acres club members!

... With all the support that was shown from members on facebook, I decided to go ahead and put out a donation jar and I have also set up a PayPal account for anyone who prefers that method, the email address for that is [email redacted]. I have created a survey of different ways to donate the money back to the league if we don't hit the $200 goal, that includes basket or bench donation, ctp donation, and unspecified funds to the league.
