We went down to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen Pantry on MLK Day. Picked up 1400 lb of food from Greening Automotive. Scott Burnham and Roberts Elementary raised about 750 lbs of food with their food drive. Giving us a total of 3750 lbs ! A new record for the Freezebee Ice Bowl ! That was impressive in itself, and that 'very close' turned into actually reaching $6000 in cash donations with some last minute gifts to get us to that milestone !!! Very well done by everyone that participated at the ... more

We raised an additional $164 at Sunnybrook putting last night thanks to Ken Mango raffling off one of his Nick Lidstrom discs. We are very close to raising $6000 for the year. Thank you Ken. Here is a link to the images taken by Andrew Frazier (Up in the Air Disc Golf). BTW, UITADG also raised money and food for us so a big shout out to them as well. Their donation is already included in our total, they are bringing their food with them when we head to the Soup Kitchen on Monday. Here is the l ... more

Awesome job today folks. Looks like we are over $5500 for the Soup Kitchen !!!!
Huge turn out due to the nice weather, or maybe people just came out to get a taste of the 11 pots of chili. In either case, the folks at the soup kitchen will be most appreciative.
I ended up with an extra ladle. If it's yours, let me know.

I gotta say: all of the chili today was delicious. Thanks to all the chili makers, to everyone who came to the event, and to everyone who helped us break our $5000 donation goal. I have not even begun to weigh the food but the finances look like we surpassed the (drum-roll please - ppdddddddd) $5700 mark. I will be able to announce the final tally next Monday when we bring everything down to the Soup Kitchen. If anyone is interested in attending the delivery with us, send me a message...

Brenda's Veggie Chili is some kinda-HOT!
Dan James January 7, 2012 at 7:57pm
Remember our goal is to raise money and food for the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. Bring what you can afford to donate. We'll have lots of different ways to contribute and a variety of prizes. You can buy mulligans to help you win some prizes, you can buy raffle tickets to be in the running for some cool merchandise, win a basket in the basket toss, or take home the 50/50 CTP.
See you in the morning.

Ok thanks Minicuci. I'm gonna try and get a late start on my chili and find something for the raffle. Give me a shout if you figure out something before Sunday. 616-328-0052 if you don't already have that number.

@Jeff, do we even need to keep the grille filled with charcoil or will your chili naturally keep everything around it warm? Brenda is going to make a veggie chile and a bowl of her famous chile too.
@Brett, not sure just yet. After Bobis I will make a run to GFS and see whats what...
I heard yesterday and tonight some Chili Trash Talking so I think I am kinda lookin' forward to the eating portion of the event :-D !

If anyone wants to try and make some Veggie Chili I'm sure it would be much appreciated ;)

The preferred method of transporting Chili would be in a big pot for the fire.
