I'm curious as to where this stamp's concept came from. Any background on it?

From the Legacy Bandit.

I figured, I wondered if the organizers would chime in.

Simple. The park is called after a local judge who lived in the area, named "James J. Lawless". Lawless by itself carries "old western" connotations. With the tournament name being settled as The Lawless Shootout, or The Shootout at Lawless, (one can "shoot" a disc golf disc; "Hey! Nice shot!) having a cowboy/bandit in any mid western appearance made sense. If you search online for awhile, you will come across http://www.clipartof.com/portfolio/chromaco/illustration/western-cowboy-outlaw-pointing-two-pistols-1087944.html. A license was attained to use the image, and the person who put the hotstamp together, including sage brush from the course (there is 10 foot sagebrush, as well as shorter sagebrush which covers much of the park and plays a huge role as obstacles) and an "old-westernish" font, knew nothing about the Legacy Bandit discs (that there was such a disc, or that the same image was used, although there are variations).
