Artist Statement:
This single-foil-run piece of art was designed to pay tribute to the history of the Native American populations who inhabited the Fredericksburg area, Closest to Loriella and the surrounding areas toward the Rappahannock. I did some research on the Patawomeck and the Mannahoaks, some of the other tribes who shared the resources of the rivers in the different archaic periods. I wanted to do something artistically intriguing and respectful to reflect the rich history of the area. I tried to find some examples of the cultural decor from recent ceremonial powwow photos and add my own touch to it. I hope this design will pay reverence to the people and the cultures as accurately as I could collect the information.
