Was there a tiered system for entry last year? If not, why is there one this year? I'm just below 935 rating and would be bummed to miss this event, had a blast last year.
I'm not saying this with any malice, just curious.

MA40 that's 935+ - registration tonight or next week? Page says "MA1 935+", Flyer says "Men 935+". Just wanted to clarify, thanks!

Hey Dan, no, we did not have a tiered system for entry last years event. The reason why we have added tiered entry stems from our goal of maintaining the Masters Cup as one of the pinnacle amateur events in the world. Over the last several years, registration into the event has largely come down to whoever had the fastest fingers with the fastest internet connection when registration went live. We thought about numerous ways to improve the process, using the Las Vegas Challenge and the Beaver State Fling (among others) as examples of events addressing the same issue. Ultimately, there are pros and cons to virtually every method imaginable, primarily because there will always be a large number of people that won’t get in. So, we reduced it down to our primary objective: making the Masters Cup a crowning achievement on the amateur disc golf tour. To do that, we need to first accommodate players that have earned higher ratings, ensuring the most competitive field possible (similar what we do for the Pro A-Tier and NT events). The 935+ rating levels were chosen for MA1 due to the PDGA designation as being the floor for that division. We understand this will affect players both positively & negatively (depending on rating), but we hope you can appreciate the impossibility of a perfect solution. No system guarantees getting in, and certainly no system makes everyone happy. However, for those that do get in, we promise you a fantastic experience!
Then why not do a tiered entry for the MA40 division as well
We are going to see so many 920 players in am2 because of this
Matt, I see where you are coming from wanting to make this a top tier AM1 event. Eric is right though, but I think the alternative is to have the +934 to +925 group register next and so forth until you open it to all. Can we not do that so some of us dont have to register for AM2 just to play?
A agree with Rory, how ever, still hunting for one of the spots left!!!
