Boomers Become Part of Disc Golf History - 2013 National Senior Games (Senior Olympics)

Disc golf will be offered at the 2013 National Senior Games (formerly Senior Olympics) in Cleveland on July 20th and 21st. The Senior Games were established for athletes that are 50 and older the year of the event. The divisions are in five year increments… 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, etc. and are offered for both men and women.
As a first time event, disc golf will be offered as a demonstration sport. The future of disc golf’s involvement and full recognition into the National Senior Games will depend upon how disc golf is represented and accepted in this trial run. Once disc golf becomes a Senior Games sport, players will need to qualify through their respective State Senior Games in their qualifying years making 2013 a unique opportunity to participate without prequalification. Minneapolis will be hosting the 2015 games and will be closely watching the turn out and quality of the competition levels.
Players must pre-register on line ( nsga.com ) or by mail (Add $10 if paying by mail). Registration closes May 1st. The registration fee will be $100 per player with an early-bird special of $75 is paid before January 31st. PDGA membership not required to participate.
The disc golf competition will occur at Sims Park in Euclid and Veterans Park in Parma over the two day competition (July 20 th and 21st). They are both quality 18-hole disc golf courses located 15 minutes from the Athletes Village in downtown Cleveland. More courses will be added if demand requires it
Also, as part of growing the sport, disc golf will be given opportunities to showcase our sport to the other athletes in the Athletes Village and at the courses through clinics and demonstrations. Players are encouraged to partake in the Athletic Village events during the week of full competition. What a great opportunity to reach other serious, senior athletes and grow the sport.
