I have some people interested in a Kids'/Beginner's Disc Golf league Sunday Mornings in May (to start) at 10am at Punderson. I had a parent find an old article from a couple years back wanting to sign up her son and I didn't want to turn her away. I was just wondering if anyone was interested in helping with this? I'm not the best person to be running a league but I plan on being there regardless... *Thank you*
You do so much for Friends of Punderson. This kid/ beginers league is a great idea. good luck
I definitely have an interest. I have a 7 year old who is really into disc golf. We have been playing in an adult doubles league and travelling to tournaments to get him competitive experience. I would be happy to have a conversation about ideas and options for something like this.
Maybe a parent/kids doubles format to encourage the kids and parents as well as some good bonding time.
I was going to recommend parents stay to learn it with their kids. (unless the kids are older and don't want their parents there lol)
I think at first though it is going to be more "learning" than actual league. We did that with the adults too - used the practice basket markers until everyone got the hang of putting/throwing then maybe played like "HORSE" or something. Went over basic etiquette and rules, After that we went out on the course...
My 7yo boy is interested. Following for more info!
Ok - I will try and remember to post here, but if not if you subscribe to " http://friendsofpunderson.com " or our Facebook page in case I forget...

Update - Pending Itinerary: For May, it is going to be a "Kids' Intro to Disc Golf" program. Ages 7-14 (parents welcome). There will be a flat donation, and kids will get three discs throughout the process to keep. (I'm not allowing people to pay just for the discs as it will be a good deal - discs will be given week to week to encourage participation and committing to the program). I'm focusing on kids completely NEW to disc golf for this event. Week 1 - Kids will get a putter, we will go over basic disc golf rules, etiquette, etc. We will practice putting with some games. We will play a short round or a few holes to start. WEEK 2 - Kids will receive a midrange, we will go over why and how it is different from a putter, practice throwing, go to course, WEEK 3 - Kids will get a driver, same idea, WEEK 4 - We will play a short round; throughout the process the kids will learn to keep score, play in turn, etc. After this, if kids want to continue we will start a "fun league" NO MONEY but I hope to come up with a point/prize system - I don't encourage the sport becoming about money and adults must refrain from drinking and smoking during this program as is required by many youth programs. This is being run by the "Friends of Punderson" as opposed to the Disc Golf Club and we are more about providing a service to the community and park guests than running competitive leagues. If you want a parent/child league that is more competitive please hound our club to start one up. :) -Thank you
I will post a registration link once I get everything approved by the group.
Thanks!
