THE "BEAST" OF THE WOODS  › D.O.R.C.s (Day Of Rest Crew)   July 1, 2014 at 5:53am

First off I would like to thank the hosts and players of the D.O.R.C.s alternate rounds for being understanding of the D.O.R.C.s mission to ENJOY early Sunday morning disc golf. By playing alternate rounds this mission may reach others whom may otherwise miss out on this joy.

With that said I would like to share some discoveries I have made.

1) The D.O.R.C.s league is more widely know to players as a beginners league as it is.
2) Beginners have a league where they may learn from others without donating any money to prizes.
3) Players may compete with one another but never any hard feelings
4) Five of the top ten DGLA leaders are D.O.R.C.s regulars (a sign of success in my opinion)
5) Alternate rounds may serve the D.O.R.C.s mission just as well as the regular scheduled round.

Now to the point; D.O.R.C.s is considering expanding the concept of alternate rounds to "out of town" areas including Portland.

This would require hosts at various courses at the same time. That would make it impossible to score two D.O.R.C.s round in one week.

In the Salem area we are lucky to have so many leagues and such a full schedule it is difficult to play one league without missing out on another you would like play too. Portland is not so lucky. In the light of DGLA points series sharing players is key to serving beginners and competitive players as well.

Are you doing this so the PDX players can have a Sunday league? Or are you doing this so they can get DGLA points? I'm sorry but all these league that use to be fun to play in have lost the "fun" element since everyone is worried about scoring points. Not every round needs to be "point related"! Just go throw and have some fun!! What happened to that??

I'm only considering it at this point and the idea came to me from a west Portland resident who asked if I would consider it. As far as I am concerned ONLY a D.O.R.C. can understand this league so until this person or anyone else can attend enough D.O.R.C.s rounds to earn the title of league host this is all speculation.

The beauty of the alternate rounds is location options for the same league at the same time. If later events occur cool if not cool just enjoy the early morning air and friendly banter in true D.O.R.C.s fashion.

If a beginner wants to be on a top card to learn something that day, it is best to play where the "Top Ten" are playing ie the regular scheduled round.
