A 29-year-old Whitmore Lake man pleaded guilty Friday to a reduced charge for intentionally ramming a Michigan State Police trooper's patrol car in December.
Christopher Joshua Westphal pleaded guilty as charged to feeling and eluding police, possession of marijuana, unlawful use of a plate and driving on a suspended/revoked license in exchange for prosecutors reducing a charge of felonious assault to misdemeanor reckless driving.
Sentencing is March 15 before Judge Michael P. Hatty.
Michigan State Police at the Brighton post said Westphal ignored a trooper's signals to stop Dec. 11, and he fled from the officer, who was trying to stop Westphal's Dodge pickup for a defective exhaust on Eight Mile Road near U.S. 23 in Green Oak Township.
At some point, police said, Westphal "intentionally rammed" the trooper's patrol car.
