I mean this in the most respectful way possible and understand this is not totally in your control. We all pay our PDGA membership yearly then over $100 to play in the tournament to help contributeu to the growth of the sport. It’s disappointing the Amateurs can’t get complimentary access to the Pros to spectate. A lot of us look forward to that every year and having people pay I personally think is against the mission of growing the sport. Disc golf differentiates itself in being extremely personable in comparison to other sports. I hope PDGA and the tournament directors reverse your stance on this as that’s the right thing to do.
If they increased the cost to play in the tournament by $30 and included a complimentary weekly pass to watch the pros, would that make you happier?
The sport has clearly been growing just fine though. Now that the growth has started, there has to be some sort of nutrient for it to build on right? Here, a little extra fee is the nutrient.
Considering the fact that the Am side of DGLO is practically neglected, with pads never cleared off and no circles, ob lines, or hazards painted, it is quite unfortunate that the amateurs who have been playing the tournament and spectating after their rounds for years no longer get the benefits of watching the pros play for free.
Most of the people helping run the tournament are volunteers. Last year both the pro and AM sides were desperately lacking these volunteers. Otherwise it seems like DGLO and the management under Nate and Ledgestone are doing just fine money wise. Especially with the Ledgestone site becoming a major retailer of discs.

In terms of paying staff, all staff members at DGLO were paid last year, depending on how much they worked. In order for us to continue to recruit good staff (and volunteers), we need to continue to bring in revenue to pay for those investments. This year AM players at DGLO will receive a players pack that is worth nearly $300. If you want to spectate the pros all weekend, it will cost $20. This year's added cash for DGLO will be nearly $50,000.

I am planning to play in the am a tier side and $20 doesn't sound bad at all for the whole tournament. The DGPT has done a great job organize the pro circuit and make it so things can be profitable and continue to grow. While I think most people are really enjoying where the sport is right with live coverage and even growing interest on ESPN, this doesn’t come without a cost. That cost is paying admission for top level pro events. Personally I am just happy that we have a stop on the pro tour in the Detroit area and it is still here in part due to Nate’s leadership.
I thought people wanted to grow the sport…. This means your Pros will be making money…. Off the fans who buy tickets, pay increasing disc costs, maybe consume some of the products advertised. Come on - give up some of dat money - get in line and buy your ticket. This part of the sport is NOT going away and is well needed.
