I don't know if any of you will still get notifications from this league, but I wanted to let you all know that I am closing the books on the 2011 league ace fund. We voted to spend the left-over 2011 Ace Fund on course improvements at Tuttle, and most of it was spent for our Spring 2012 Workday. There is a small amount of money left over: $28.01 to be exact, which I am rolling over into the 2012 Doubles League Ace Fund. I will also post on our 2012 Doubles League Page to give you an up ... more

I'm looking forward to doubles!

Glad you asked that question Kevin (Clouse). I was getting curious myself.

For those of you out there reading this, Kevin (RevKev) Clark has announced that the Tuttle Tuesday doubles league starts up again on March, 13th. 5:30 sharp.

Does doubles start next week or when Rev Kev?

The earliest Tuttle work day I will be a part of will be Saturday, November 19th.
Here's why:
1. I still haven't heard from Rev Kev regarding how he thinks the unclaimed Ace Fund $ should be spent.
2. I still haven't talked to the River Pond director/staff regarding hauling in a generator & power tools to work on the baskets.

With that said though, I am only talking about basket REPAIRS, not course redesigns / pin changes.

sooooo..... about these new placements and putting some work into the course. I have been out to Tuttle a few times recently and have come up with a few ideas for placements. Does anyone have any good ideas for a possible work day out there? (It is tough for me to get off work on the weekends, but I can usually work it out if I know in advance) Would anyone be willing to put in a little time early this Saturday or Sunday with me? I don't have the resources (tools) to dig holes/ cut posts or ... more

Mark may have located a generator that can handle 220... not just 110...

Rick, Just checked it out, didn't mention anything about amperage, but at idle I can run up to 400W.

Rob, does your truck have any info about the amperage it can handle? The reason I ask is that my welder trips the breaker at home every once and a while...

If anyone has a generator that's meant for power tools that would be ideal...

Robert,
That's excellent! Being that mobile will make it go faster, we'll need fewer people, and ask less of the Park staff / Corps. of Engineers.

If we've got our own power source do we even need to tell Parks staff much other than we're going to be "working on repairing baskets"?

Just to put it out there, I've got a 110V power outlet built into the bed of my truck, so we could tote the welder around to all the baskets if it would make it any easier.

RIck, I'd be glad to volunteer myself to help out with whatever it takes to get the ball rolling on basket improvements. Let's try to figure out a day, and I'll try my absolute best to get away from work that day.
Mark, lets try to get out to Tuttle soon and play some alternates with some practice baskets. I liked your idea about #12 and have a few others I'm dying to try out.
.... maybe some sunday morning before league?

Oh, I forgot to also mention the following:
1. I can bring some metal bar stock to cut to size and weld on where the baskets need fixin'. Ya know, like where there's a few broken bars and/or "baling wire" on the baskets.
2. Unless someone asks me to do way more welding than I expect, I won't expect any $ other than maybe food (if we work up to, or through lunch).

To expand on what Mark said...

Yes, I have a very portable Miller brand wire feed welder that uses a standard household 110 volt power source, OR a properly powered gas generator. An hour of touch up welding on those baskets could make them play like new. Or at least they would no longer spit out discs because of their funky rocking and pivoting lower cage.

So, I propose we have a half day work day (4 hours with 6-8 people minimum) and get the baskets back to rock solid shape. Specifically ... more

I like the idea of taking some practice baskets out to test some alt pins. I laready have a couple of ideas.
If the chains get replaced on hole #3, I would offer 25 cents / foot for the old heavy chains that can be used for other course improvements. Rick and I visited a bit today about repairing some of the baskets. I don't want to volunteer his services but it sounds like if there is an outlet we can use at the lake he might be able to bring a welder. I think the wobbly chain racks ... more

I personally think that it would be great to get some new chains on 3, but if it really kills our budget maybe we should either put on hold for the sake of more entertaining placements or give a trial run at possibly only replacing the outside chains (since it is the weight of the chains that makes putting difficult, maybe it would soften them up a little) Securing a few of the tops of the baskets a little better would also be great, but I'm not sure that would cost much (if anything). Just for kicks... If we had done a point league like the Warner League, giving each person one point for playing and one point for every team they beat each week, this is what the season results would have looked like: (of course I lost the scores for Aug. 30th, so these results are totally unofficial!)

1 Clark, Kevin 89
2 Clouse, Kevin 80
3 Kewley, Mark 71
4 Pultz, Thad 62
5 Tulp, Kevin 38
6 Laughlin, Brian 36
7 Zane, Kevin 35
8 Orton, Bennett 23
9 Tveite, Jon 21
10 Lett, ... more

I'll have to double count the money, but I believe the ace fund is at $252 at the end of the season. We'll hold back at least $25 to start next year off. Anything we don't spend on course improvements will go into next years fund. Several people have suggested that we put new (more friendly) chains on hole number 3. I know from past experience that this will cost around $50. We also have talked about buying concrete and putting in a few new basket placements. Apparently, the #14 right placement was removed prior to Stampede, so this would be my first suggestion. Any other thoughts?

Well, that's all folks! Tonight was a fitting end to the season, with Zane and Kewley shooting a bogie-free 47 to win it. From there the scores were 48, 49, 50, and 51. No ties, thankfully, 'cause it was dark when we finished, and we spent plenty of time looking for discs on the last two holes. Good shootin' everyone!

In the meantime, be thinking of improvements at the Tuttle course that we can spend our Ace Fund on if no one hit's it next week. Feel free to share them here...
