The Cecil County Disc Golf Pro/Am PDGA Handicap League is a weekly league that allows players of all skill levels to be competitive. Scores are adjusted based on individual player handicaps. Handicaps are determined over time based on previous week scores. Players receive points each week based on their finishing position. Anyone can win!!
The league will play from the blue layout at Brantwood.
**HOW DO I ENTER?**
First-time players may register in person before the start of any Saturday league event throughout the season. New players will be provided a starting zero handicap that will adjust over time to their actual league handicap. All players are always eligible for scratch score payout, handicap payouts, and ace pots.
Entry fee per round: $5
Ace fund buy-in: $5 at beginning of entry for the season.
**HOW DO I ESTABLISH A HANDICAP AND HOW DO THEY WORK?**
Handicaps are determined by averaging the BEST THREE SCORES from the player's LAST THREE ROUNDS. If a player has not played at least one round, they will be given a zero (par) handicap to start. As the player completes league rounds, their actual scores will start to replace the starting zero handicap scores.
Example: If a player shows up for the first time, their handicap is 0
0 + 0 = 0
0/3 = Handicap 0
If they shoot +5, that score will replace one of their "starting zero" handicaps:
0 + 0 + 5 = 5
5/3 = Handicap 1.6
On their second round, they shoot +10. This replaces their second score:
0 + 5 + 10 = 15
15/3 = Handicap 5
By the time the player completes their third round (+7), they have a complete handicap:
5 + 10 + 7 = 22
22/3 = Handicap 7.3
Please note that only 80% of the handicap value is used. So a 7.3 handicap is actually 5.8, and an 8 handicap is actually 6.4. This always ensures players who shoot lower scores are slightly rewarded.
**HOW ARE SEASON POINTS CALCULATED?**
Each week a player participates in the league, they will be awarded 10 starting points. Players will receive 2 points for each player they beat. The player who has the hottest round (lowest score) will also receive two extra points. Points will be awarded to all players at the event and tracked to determine a season winner. Only the best 5 weeks from each player count towards season payouts.
**HOW ARE PAYOUTS DETERMINED?**
The entry fee to play in the league is $20 plus an additional $5 weekly. Players may pay at registration weekly. Weekly payouts are as follows:
2-4 players: 1st place handicap and hot round players receive 50% the pool buy in. (If 4 players, they each receive $10)
5-14 players: 1st place handicap and hot round players receive 35% of the pool buy in, 2nd place handicap and hot round players receive 15% of the pool buy in. Both rounded to $5.
15 or more players: 1st place handicap receives 45%, 2nd place handicap receives 15%, 3rd place handicap received 10%, hot round player receives 30%, all rounded to $5.
$0.50 from each player goes to the PDGA. Because this will be funded by the league buy in, weekly remaining amounts (rounded to nearest $5) will be used to fund the end of season payout pools.
**ACE FUND?**
Players may choose to opt-in to the Ace pool, which is $5 for the entire league. If a player hits an ace, they will win 50% of the ace pool. Should no one get another ace in the season that player will receive the other 50% at the end of the season. Unused ace pools can carry over from league season to new league season. If you do not buy into a week and score an ace, congratulations! You got an ace! Unfortunately you didn't buy in.
**CTP?**
All players are eligible for CTP(s) weekly. CTPs may be comprised of first or second throw CTPs. CTPs will be an additional $1 per week unless the week is sponsored.
**SEASON WINNINGS**
At the end of the posted season, payouts are as follows (point leaders):
Season champion: 50% of season payout pool
Second place: 30% of season payout pool
Third place: 15% of season payout pool
Any additional amounts (5%) minus PDGA fees, CTPs, and league costs will go to the Season champion.
**PDGA POINTS**
All players who are registered and current with the PDGA will receive PDGA points based on their season scores. PDGA League standings will be posted after each week of play and are available for view for all players. If you are not a PDGA member you will have until the end of the year to join to maintain your rating, scores will be dropped at the end of the year otherwise. All players will be placed in the MA1 division for scoring purposes. This allows amateurs to earn Amateur points towards World invites.
