2014 DFOK Doubles

Hey everyone, I lost my car keys earlier this evening (Nov 13th) out at Fairmont. If anyone finds a set of keys out there, one's for a Mazda and there are a couple house keys as well, please let me know! My number's 402-806-0107.

Usually I am one to stay out of administrative nuances when it comes to our disc golf club but for some reason I can't stop thinking about this one. It was mentioned that there may be handicaps or divisions imposed to make play more fair. I think this is the worst idea ever brought forth in the history of mankind!

It was mentioned last night that there may be some changes in the structure of Tuesday night Doubles at Tuttle. Usually I am one to stay out of administrative nuances when it comes to our disc golf club but for some reason I can't stop thinking about this one. It was mentioned that there may be handicaps or divisions imposed to make play more fair. I think this is the worst idea ever brought forth in the history of mankind!

For one, I show up to doubles each week knowing that there will be some really good players there. Being a realist, I know that I might need one of these good players as a partner in order to place in the money. I also know that I have placed with partners with the same or lesser skill as me. I like the uncertainty, or the gamble if you will.

Secondly, this league is about playing for money. It is not about being competitive or feeling better about yourself at the end of the round. It is about the GUAP! Although nominal, the $5 I drop is a "line in the sand" that says I am confident that I am going to have this return to me with interest when the round is over. If I lose, I could care less about what my partner did or did not do, nor do I bellyache about drawing a partner with lesser skill. I lost my money and I want to get better and win it back next week.

In addition, does anyone really think it is going to make a difference if we try to pair high skill/ low skill and so on? I can tell you that it won't and although I don't want to mention names, the best players win no matter with whom they are paired with. Implementing divisions for doubles is probably the biggest travesty espoused last night. Tournaments have divisions; League has divisions; Can't we just leave doubles the way it is for goodness sake? It is the one pure league where you show up with your money and put up or shut up.

This doubles league has been around for far longer than most of you have been playing disc golf and while I am glad that more and more people are playing now than ever, this league is not the place for such tomfoolery. Use bag tag league to get more people involved in evenly matched-competitive disc golf but leave doubles the way it is! This aggression will not stand, man!

Agreed. Doubles is the first league I ever played in and doubles is what got me into wanting to play tournaments. Also doubles is what made me quit playing softball... which I played baseball for 12 years and softball for 9 and gave it up for a new love. I completly agree with Dimond on this and so ... more

First of all. These are all valid points, except for the "gamble" point. All of our leagues are games of skill... we have to make sure of that.

Second of all, the people who have spent countless hours working on organizing what is DFOK are committed to making sure each DFOK endorsed endeavor is well thought out. After all a democratic approach (usually) yields the best results, plus helps us avoid real trouble too.

For about 5 years I have hardly missed a doubles round at Tuttle. I don't think there is anything wrong with the format and can't imagine that anyone would change it. It's still my favorite league.

That being said, I do think that if it is listed under the DFOK club on Disc Golf Scene that the group (You should come to the open meeting) should put together some guidelines for payouts and the ACE fund etc. in case it is questioned.
