The rough is very thick in some spots making it easy to lose plastic in area's. A spotter might be a good idea. A course map would be very helpful for a first timer as it can be a little tricky navigating the course in spots. My biggest complaint though is the layout of a lot of the holes. The preferred shot shape of some holes isn't realistic as some holes require a "poke and hope" shot. Besides that, the course does have nice concrete tee pads and Mach V baskets. Some holes have 2 baskets in place(Ams and Pros). Red River isn't a destination course but it's worth a stop if your driving through Waldport.
