this course is worth the journey. natural tee pads and no elevation but aside from that, the course is very unique and first class.

definately an excellent course off the beaten path.

course UPDATE - June 1st and the course was freshly cut through hole Nine. The wooded holes are still needing some weed whacking throughout the fairways but it is VERY playable. Grounds Keeper Ron says that holes 1 - 9 are Whimbledon quality (if tennis can equate to disc golf) . Bring your bug spray, the skeeters will carry you away once in the woods.

Played decent today on 17 holes. The entrance is pretty muddy. Holes 1 and 2 are pretty wet and unplayable. Hole 3 has a bit of water down the fairway but is playable. Holes 4-16 are pretty decent. Holes 17, 18, and 19 have a couple puddles but are playable. Hole 20 is unplayable. It looks like more rain may be on the way though!

Old Airport Disc Golf Course - AuGres, Michigan has posted "NO DISC GOLF" throughout rifle deer season. Be careful players, stay clear. This land has a history of seeing hunters; if not within, often very near some of the holes. The best idea is to not play when there is a chance that a scope may be aiming somewhere near you or your disc.

message from Ron (course designer, guru, protector and old hippie dude that likes to howl).

"whaoooooooooooooooo, ooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwahhhhhhhhh ! I Love You All, keep coming to Old Airport Disc Golf Course - AuGres, Michigan. I'm the tall guy usually on a tractor, running a weed whacker, chain saw or just walking around howling a bit. I'm sure we'll have a chat and I am looking forward to it. I hope you'll love the course".

come one, come all, just be there. Ron Peludat has worked hard and long to get baskets on the AuGres Old Airport DGC. Show your support, be at the Grand Opening for a couple of casual rounds, a couple of hot dogs, a chance to win prizes being given away without any entry or charge and if you think you can beat the field, stay and play Bring Your Own Partner Doubles or play against the field playing cali. Winner/winners take 75%, second place gets 25% of the $15.00 entry per team or cali players. ... more

Grand Opening planned Monday, September 23rd at 5:00 prior to the City of AuGres's monthly council meeting. It would be great to have as many disc golfer show up as possible to demo some of your championship level skills. The city manager told me that they are planning on having some hot dogs on hand and may take a walking tour around some of the course. Plan on a random draw doubles round, probably starting by 6:00. call me with any questions, donations or if anyone wants to carpool.

In planning a vacation to Tawas Point State Park last week, I called East Tawas Chamber of Commerce to ask if there was a local disc golf course. The very nice woman on the phone responded by asking "what is disc golf?" Fortunately, a friend recommended this website and I found this fantastic course: Old Airport DGC in Au Gras. Someone has put in ALLOT of TLC to grooming, marking and the overall layout of this course. It has a great mix of short dog legs, rolling meadows (not unlike Sc ... more

UPDATE -
Ron has temporary markers out directing play. You'll need to look for the small contractor stakes, most will have the little plastic flags alongside as well to help with viability. It is looking AWESOME ! Holes 1 -9 are super easy to follow and 10, 11, 12 & 13 fairly easy to follow. The last 5 1/2 holes that still need some major clearing, 14 through 19 are for the adventurous. Once leaving hole 19, players come back out of the woods to the old airstrip and old hole 18, now f ... more

UPDATE - The NEW Old Airport DGC now has 20 baskets planted. 10 holes from the original layout were altered and make up the front 9, with 10 new holes going into an entirely different area of woods. Hole 20 was the original hole 18 but is now longer and has a slightly different basket location. Playing and navigating this course will be tough for awhile yet, please be patient if you visit and play. The rest of the summer will be used to groom and place signs and with everyone's help and pat ... more

Tuesday, July 10th would be a great day for anyone to drive to AuGres and help haul some brush off the 4 final fairways in need. There will be a crew there at 9:00 this morning working throughout the majority of the day.

Old Airport DGC, the original 18 hole pole course is dry and all cut and ready for play. Work continues on the 10 new holes going through the woods with 5 holes nearly cleared and 5 remaining to have the brush hauled off and logs stacked. Course designer Ron Peludat told me that he has this Friday and Saturday off work so there's a good chance anyone coming to the course may see Ron working around and looking for some volunteer help. Ron's phone number is listed in previous posts if yo ... more

Tuesday, July 2nd. I'm planning on going to AuGres for a work day, anyone want to ride share ? The course needs hands to carry the brush away, move logs into piles and make the final push to clean things up before the baskets go in. And for all of those players out there that are anxious to see the Old Airport DGC come together, be patient. If you've never cut a disc golf course through the woods with nothing more than chain saws and hand tools, it's not an easy or quick project. ... more

What's a chainsaw? :) Good luck!!

Craig Prime   June 29, 2013 at 9:17am

mine is a rummage sale find, $20.00 and two course later, 1 bar, 3 chains, several sharpenings and a few pieces that have fallen off now make it something you would call a hazardous tool for making disc golf courses.
