This is an intermediate technical course. Fairways are tight, and every throwing style will have the advantage on one hole or another. This course is a labor of love for many volunteers who have contributed time, labor and money over the last three years. It's always being improved, albeit not as fast as a well-funded course may be.
The course is open dawn to dusk. Parking is right where Google Maps shows it to be, and both the front and back 9 loops start and end here.
Holes 1 & 2 are open shots, along the edge of the lake. Water shouldn't be an issue for most players unless you throw long (on 1) or right (on 2.) After this, you're into the woods. Hole 3 drops down into and alongside a ravine. Not a long hole (192) but like all the holes, accuracy is more important than power. You can quickly get into trouble in the rough, which can house brambles. 4 is a down-and-up shot, if you don't get through the bottleneck at the bridge. A clean shot into the putting zone can give a birdie, and aces have been thrown on this hole as well.
Holes 6&7 have elevated baskets. 6 starts across water, and enters the woods through the narrow door. Play the mando to the left of the water tank and the basket is behind and on a platform about 3ft tall. 7 has a basket about 6ft in the air, on the edge of a significant bank. Throwing long may give you a 12ft-in-the-air putting challenge.
8 descends towards the edge of the lake, and tries to intimidate you into throwing short. If you do, you'll still be facing a water backdrop just a few feet behind the basket.
12 & 15 are long holes, for this course. 12 curves gradually around to the right, and 15 is straight. Both are narrow. Remember, accuracy is king here.
Improvement of the holes (clearing, grading of fairways, etc) is often taking place (but not obstructing players.) Tee pads were upgraded to concrete this year, and are quite large (about 9x13.) Holes 4,5,6,7,10,16,and 18 have all received fairway modifications, length adjustments, or other work this year in addition to the tee pad upgrades.
There are no readily available bathrooms or water sources on the course, but there are trashcans. Benches are planned for later this year at several holes. The nearest access to a bathroom is in the main building on campus, the Townsend building (8AM-5PM.)
