Thanks a ton for the quick response Ryan and Hanson Hills. Look forward to checking out the course. When are the new baskets going in?

Talked to park director today and no baskets are missing. They moved those holes for a few days for a tournament. Course is actually getting more holes soon so no worries.

Baskets are not missing.. We pulled them and set up a Modified course connecting the Pine Knoll course to the PDGA course for a fundraising tournament that week.. I apologize that Signs were not posted explaining this.. ALL BASKETS ARE BACK IN THEIR NORMAL SPOT.

Looks like there are reports of missing baskets in the review section. Does anyone that plays here know if this is still true. We are heading up for the fourth of july weekend and are looking to play here.

Oh, and somebody should take some pictures of the championship caliber course during its full summer swing... those fall pictures are great, but probably don't do the course justice in its full natural summer beauty...
Todd Wiley June 22, 2011 at 3:34pm
That's awesome! I will be shooting over from alpena to play these courses soon!

Hanson Hills has 9 New Disc Baskets, placed White Short Tee posts, Blue Long Tee posts and is open for serious fun.
Our main goal was to accommodate the beginning to intermediate disc golf players and members of the community that just want to get out and enjoy a beautiful stroll through the Hanson Hills refuge and old Pine Knoll campground.
The first Tees are set on the edge of the tree line next to the Softball field and begin with an easy 135’, right curving shot into the woods. Every hole is a Par 3, with distances averaging only 218 feet from the Short White Tees.
All 9 holes have Blue markers for Long Tees shots as well. Beginners can start with the shorter shots the first time through the loop then shoot a round from the Long Blue Tees the second round for a slightly harder but completely different look at the same basket. Long Blue Tees average 290 feet per hole, with one Par 4 hole in the wide open fairway of Hole #7.
(For those keeping track in GRAs “Walk 100 Program” the White Loop is a total of 3,425 feet and Blue Loop is 4,071 feet. A full round of 18 Holes is approximately 1 ½ miles walked. Keep logging those miles…)
The course is certainly playable and we will add little details as fast as we can to make this new course as great as our Grayling Rotary Championship level course!

If you are coming from the South it might be easier to get offf I-75 at 4 Mile Road and head west until it dead-ends into Military Road about 3 miles. Make a right onto Military Road heading North until you make a right onto 93 about another 3 miles. Turn off 93 (right) onto Old Lake Road then turn right into the Grayling Recreation Area (Hanson Hills).
If you are coming from the North, take 72/93 southwest out of town and turn left onto Old Lake Road and slowly follow the winding road to the park. I believe Ol' Dam Party Store is on 72/93 on your right before you turn onto Old Lake Road.
