WE HAVE BASKETS!
That is right. We will have a full fledged course very soon. Today and tomorrow we will be walking the course and installing and working to get things ready for all of you to come and play. No more posts!

I would like to go out there tomorrow. If someone knows the course please let me know or if they can walk me through it. I want to put up markers and arrows and hole numbers so people can show up and play. I was completely lost there last weekend.
We are going to be doing a lot more of that now that we have things like baskets. Contact Andrew F at Up In The Air Disc Golf. He is there the most and is in charge of those sorta things.
And honestly the course is set up fairly logically, each hole follows the next in a straight line for the most part. So finding your way around isnt as hard as a lot of courses. That being said we still need to get all those details taken care of and any help is appreciated my friend!

The city has gone bankrupt. Im tired of watching the.city die. Im sure most of you know that people (including older generations like our parents) could care less about Detroit. Lets change, lets make this course our own project. Lets get some people together and bring a small portion of the city back from decay. Its a small project and definitely possible to accomplish. Maybe others will see what we did and do a few community projects of their own.
I didnt know, all I heard was there was a discraft tournament there in the fall. I had heard there where baskets and everything...when I showed up it seemed abandoned....all I saw was an old building with an old discraft sign...... thought everyone forgot about it
Wasn't forgot about. Just slightly delayed. Come back mid week.

I have never been here before, but was thinking about checking it out tomorrow. Is it open? What's it like? I know there are posts for baskets, but are there tee markers visible? Thanks.

Anyone playing here this evening?
Couple free range family dogs....pit bulls ran thru my yard and destroyed my chickens last week.

are there posts on every hole?
Yes there are 18 of them although 7 has been a lake all winter long. We been skipping that one and playing short pad some where else. If you have any other questions feel free to hit me with them.

I will be in Metro-Detroit on April 19 for work. I hope to get to the island about 1:30 pm. Let me know if a crew is going to be there to prep for April 20; I can bring a rake and shovel with my bag. Sorry...gotta be in Grand Rapids on 4/20. Planning for your Battle on 8/25.
Awesome! And bummer! We are having a big work day down there the weekend before but I'm sure will have some fine tuning todo! We can for sure get in a round though. That 1:30 time looks good for some of us to be on the island. Looking forward to seeing you then.

I don't see them allowing access to the island for any reason other than the festival. I could be wrong, but my guess is they will shut the whole thing down for the weekend.
possibly, but keep in mind i've been working with andrew from upintheair on building that course personally. I think i can get a backstage pass to the course at least. I want to go to the festival too.
if they dont close belle isle due to the grand prix.. it probably wont be closed because of the festival... the will jsut re route streets. thats my look at it atleast

Lost a green/yellow champ teebird in the snow on the left side of 10 near the long tees for 8. Number is on it.

What kind of effect will the knuckleheads on the Detroit city council have on this course. With their recent decision to deny the state stewardship of this wonderful piece of land, will the eventual evolution of this course be impacted.
I know the politics about the Island have been up in the air, we have connected with both city and the state to make sure our baby will be taken care for by whoever ends up managing the park. This might not be an instant turnaround by either but as the community continues to express interest by show ... more
Great job guys, keep up the great work. I really look forward to getting out an putting in some throws on Detroits jewel.
I'm optimistic; the momentum provided by the disc-golf folks leading the way on the island will get them past the politics. Let's not burn any bridges (pun intended) by disparaging people who may yet be in positions to help build the program.

There are a few low spots on the course that were wet a week ago. 3 and 5 for the broken pipe may be playable now but i'll advise waterproof boots. Low spots include some areas before and after the pin on hole 4, the pin area on 7(may want to skip for now), and on 17 near the pin
just skip 7, low area at pin still too wet to play without waterproof boots (5 inches deep)

Planning on working on the course every time after the Sunday noon league.
Next week plans are for cutting some stuff down (just the 2' handle loppers), making arrows from pins to next teepad (yellow bricks), and probably working on the trench some more. Anyone who wants to help work after the league bring waterproof work boots, gloves, shovels, and 2' loppers.
Just a note from a 2011 and 2012 tourney traveler from Grand Rapids- I remember seeing about 8 to 10 pallets of brick pavers off the fairway (right) on one of the holes. The overgrown state of those materials may indicate their availability to your work crew. I'll lend a hand if I get over there some Sunday soon.
Thanks, we know about the bricks and those will help with the course development.
we appreciate the ideas Fred and cant wait to catch a round with you. We do plan on busting into that brick pile for a few ideas on the course. Those bricks are great material and you should bee seeing some of it work itself onto the course. Lets us know if your ever in the area!

Ben i got your s-line cd. Tried to play here today but was disappointed to see there were no permanent baskets in
Hey Brad thanks for making it out to the course, Believe me when I say that I also would love to see baskets in but just some quick details to explain ourselves. The State should provide us with baskets once they are onto the island, they will be heavily supporting any traffic that is already coming ... more

That's what I'm talking about! I'm sure it doesn't need to be said, but take lots of pics. It will give people who haven't been to the course an idea of how it's layed out and what to expect. On the same token, an updated course map would be extremely helpful, especiall ... more
That's what I'm talking about! I'm sure it doesn't need to be said, but take lots of pics. It will give people who haven't been to the course an idea of how it's layed out and what to expect. On the same token, an updated course map would be extremely helpful, especially since the layout has been altered slightly. Any idea when the course will be playable? It would be awesome to play it this weekend
By Wednesday. The map has been updated online so far as I know, but I will be sure to make that known so we can get it handled. Honestly only 2 tee placements changed that I can think of. Once again, we will be sure to get the most up to date info on there soon. The flow of the course is really easy to follow, but finding baskets is not always as easy.
As for pics and other media, that is my department, and I will be taking tons of photos and some vid that I will edit and speed up so people can see a quick "flyover," without the flyover. Unless we can get a r/c heli in there... hmmmmm
RC heli would be awesome!! You've probably seen this, but this might point to help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q30r_BJPlc4
^Ypsilanti new course flyover
Bad ass! Thanks brother!
Just get ahold of Foz I am sure he would make a guest appearance to do some filming. Might even bring out a pirate or two to help christen the chains.
No prob! Glad to help!
