More classic northern michigan disc golf here. Set in beautiful hardwood forrest on a ski hill this course uses its elevation very well playing up the mountain with a good variety of shots. Almost every hole on this course is "deucable" yet the holes still demand accurate and fun shots. Any skill level can enjoy this course. There are few cons to this course but they need to be listed. Concrete tees would be great but the gravel pads that are currently there are in great shape and are some of t ...

The holes were excellent to play but for our first time on the course, we had to walk up nearly every fairway before throwing because the tee signs were torn off or removed. Can see where this course is challenging when full bloom.....lots of walking, more walking than I have done in some time.

Course was Beautiful! The view was awesome at the 18th hole! The course was a little tight at spots, but for most part is not to rough on an average disc'r. The bad part was after hole 5 or so, it was pretty much no tee signs at all because they were all broken off. Hole 11 is up the trail at 10's basket or next to the basket at 9 behind the old cellar. The post has a 12 written on it, but it is 11's tee pad. Not nearly as bad as a hike as everybody made it out to be. The worst part was the step ...

Long course, we played after several rounds at other courses so we were tested. Beautiful scenery, the only thing holding this course back...........there needs to be a down hill bomber for the last hole, throwing out toward the rink. It was lame to walk the steps out instead of letting a few rip at a basket. Vandalism was prevelant at pretty much every hole.

There are so many wonderful attributes to this course. Things are really improving with the help of the city and local club, and the TLC is starting to show. It's one of the first courses I ever played and it's still my favorite. The view at the top is amazing and worth the walk. In 2014 new Discraft Chainstar baskets were added on the front 9 plus a practice basket. Thank you Boyne City! Trash containers and log benches at every hole, all new tee signs installed in 2015, and tee pad improvement in the works (most of the holes are now carpeted). Keep the reviews coming!

Update 7/7/2014 - The course continues to improve! The baskets on the front 9 have all been replaced by brand new chain stars, and more signage continues to crop up making the course easier to navigate. Once there's some solid & even footing on all the tee pads, this course will get the bump to A+ Update 7/15/13 - Played the course this weekend and it has received some much needed love and attention, my thanks to those involved!! I very much enjoyed the course and the scenery along the way, with the long hikes between some of the holes. Course would get an A if they put in some new simple post tee signs to replace the nice ones that have been destroyed and are mostly missing. Concrete tee pads would also be necessary for that A. All that said, I do like the course, and hope to play there again. Even my girlfriend liked walking this course, and she hates disc golf - LOL.

Nice course that plays up a small ski type hill. Pros: Nice variety of short and long shots. Good mix of tight technical wooded holes and open throws. You really get a nice idea of the variety of landscape found in this area. Plenty of trash cans and benches for us. The course is much improved since I last played it a couple years ago. Removing the fourth? hole, which could have an apartment complex and parking lot come into play was a good idea, though it created navigation issues for u ...

Avalanche is a beautiful technical course, there has been an awesome improvement of the course, better tee pads, and a cleaner course. We still need tee signs, but that's not due to lack of trying, we have out up two different sets of signs which have both been broken, thanks to Jason, Forrest, Bobby they have turned the course around and got things Rollin again, avalanche has so much potential, and with all the years I have played it I have never seen a bunch of under par rounds even in tournaments, it is challenging and deserves a good rating. Come play avalanche!!!

Great place to relax and throw some discs, it's a long course and lots of improvements over the last two years and many more coming along in the near future. I should first mention that I haven't been here recently, and I've heard that Boyne Valley DGC has began working to improve many of the "cons" I've listed below. If this course had more directional signage and hole lengths, it would be an A+. Not to mention the 1/4 mile walk between holes 15 and 16…there has to be a way to put a hole or two in there. This is a very challenging course, very fair fairways, and the view on 18 cannot be beaten. I played this course a long time ago when it first went in and it is getting back to it's glory days. Boyne City/Boyne Falls needs to get back on board with Michigan tournaments, it is a must play.

Pros: The setting is a beautiful. The course includes a number of forest types, as well as some old field/meadow holes. It has great variety, ranging from very technical wooded to open meadow holes. Challenging course with a mix of open spaces to practice long shots, and wooded areas for accuracy. Trash cans are at almost every hole which is nice because there is not much garbage lying around. The scenery is very nice and relaxing which makes for a great place to disc golf and forget about everything else going on in your life. The distance from the t-pad to the basket varies greatly from easily aceable holes, to very long holes that are a great challenge (hole 16).

This is a beautiful and challenging course. The view from hole 18 is unmatched; it's even better than the view from hole 19 at Hickory Hills. I've played quite a few courses around Michigan, and Boyne is definitely one of my favorites. I have seen a lot of courses across Michigan. After playing Avalanche Preserve two things came to my mind. The first was that it was an absolutely gorgeous area, the second was that it has potential for more. Just played this course and it looked great. The course was very clean with trash cans at plenty of holes. The course is technical with very tight lines. There a a few holes that are pretty open as well. There is a variety of shots with a lot of elevation changes. There is plenty of opportunity to add more holes if they decide to. A few long walks between holes but plenty of signs to get you where you need to be and benches to take a quick rest. This course was fun to play and challenging at the same time. The best part of all is the view from the top of the hill though.

Had an amazing time at the Haunted Hyzer a few weeks ago. The course is beautiful. I think some of the extra holes should get put in permanently, not only because it's a fun course, but to reduce the long walks between some of the holes. This is probably my favorite course in this part of Michigan.

The course is looking great the new baskets are so much better. The new benches are really nice when you need a rest. And when the city keeps it mowed it looks really nice. It will be even better when all the tee sings are done. The course is one of the best courses in Michigan . The only thing that would make it better is cement tee pads it would get a lot more use because a lot of people are worried about twisting a ankle on some of the pads. But I love the course.

This course was a very pleasant surprise. The scenery was amazing, especially late in the year when all the leaves change colors. The course itself is very well maintained and easy to navigate. It has a good mixture of right and left holes, with some being very technical. The only negative thing I can really say about the course itself is that it is lacking tee pads. This was the first official Northern Michigan course I played and I really enjoy this course. The only 2 issues I have with it are the tee pads having divots that could twist an ankle (which i know are being worked on), and hole 16 being so difficult to par lol :P ....maybe I'm just not good enough to part it yet. Really enjoy playing the Boyne Avalanche Preserve course. Its challenging and has some of the best views Northern Mi. has to offer. It is a top level course with great locals and club always a pleasure to play there. The only thing is it could use tee pads. although the dirt ones are well maintained. Tee pads would make a great difference to game play and safety. This is just a minor detail if you haven't played here yet you definitely need to put it on your to do list. Northern Michigan has great courses to offer and this is for sure one of the top courses in the North.

Being one of the older coarses in northern Michigan it was the most out dated for the longest time, but as of recent it seems to be progressively getting better. I played a tournament there last weekend and had observed the new tee signs that look amazing and depicts an appropriate overhead view of the hole. Avalanche Mountain is a very nice course, and the Avalanche Mountain Open was a well done tournament. I liked the mix of shots, and I thought the alternate holes were very well thought out and could actually all be made into permanent holes, resulting in a nice 24 hole course. The only cons that I noticed were that some of the teepads were in rough shape, and the walk between 15 and 16 was rough. This was the first course I ever played, and I've loved it and disc golf since! It's just enough of everything to keep players on their toes and alert. Love the location see well. Only thing I could see improving this course would be adding more homes permanently as I've heard rumors about since this season began; that and the two rubber tee pads are just odd and hard to play or adjust to, especially since there's only two, which I never understood anyways.

Been playing there for 8-9 years now and have watched the course become a work of art. The disc golf club has made multiple improvements and they have went above and beyond toake sure that everyone can enjoy the disc golf and what north ...

The course very nice and i had fun playing it, i would like to see different teepads. Either all concrete teepads or teepads like #2 with the stone tile. thats all that i wasnt a big fan of about it.

Great course & lots of improvements recently by the Boyne Valley Disc Golf Club make this a very enjoyable, yet challenging course. A variety of different shots required to navigate the course, some wooded, some wide open. There are some long walks between holes, but the signage makes it very easy to find the next hole.

Wonderful course. Some pretty challenging holes that, personally, take some smart golf to play, a good change-up from the easy duece holes I've seen more often. Not saying a 2 isn't going to happen but if you go for too much and miss you could easily be looking at a 4 and even a 5 on some holes. Has some great teesigns but could use some new teepads. All except a couple are natural and the others are tiny rubber pads and one tile pad. Which are okay until they get wet, then they are pretty slick ...

Avalanche Preserve is an excellent course to play for both beginners and advanced players. The course has beautiful scenery all the way through. It is very clean with trash receptacles and bench seating at every hole. There are good people behind the advancing of this course. It is already a wonderful course that is constantly improving. I recommend all to experience this course and once you finish the 18th hole, you can enjoy the view of the city and the lake at the top of the hill.

Concrete teepads would make it an A-. There are some inordinately long gaps between holes which I would say makes the 18 hole layout a B, but tournaments generally fill those in a little bit.

Awesome course. The club has put in a lot of hard work to get it to this point and it shows. Great mix of shots, great signage, and a plethora of trashcans and benches make this course one of my favorites. Just waiting on some concrete tees and it'll be an A+.

The guys have done a great job with the course! You can tell there are a lot of people working to constantly improve this wonderful golf course. Love the temp baskets added during tournaments and events, they make this course top notch. Would like to see the tee pads improved on a few of the holes. All in all of you get the chance to visit Boyne city do not pass up the chance to toss at Avalanche

I played this course for the first time recently, and I had a blast. Every hole was interesting and challenging, and the landscape and different shots made it a great experience. It's a bit of a hike but such a beautiful place and the view at the end was worth it. I ran into a guy named Forrest while on the course and he was out there working on improving the tee-pads on an 85 degree day. It's awesome to see someone working hard on their scene and course. The hard work shows in the course as wel ...

Great course, close to town and a lot for a family to do.Good mix of tunnel and open shots. Could use more stable tee box areas.
Add a few baskets between 10 and 18, on the hike between baskets, oldtimers kicked in and forgot what I was there for. LOL

one of my favorite courses to play. Play there almost every week. There is a little of everything you like to play here. From big wide open shots too tight low ceiling throws. Once you get to hole 18 the view is well worth the walk and play. The only reason this course gets an A instead of an A+ for me is the walk inbetween 15 and 16. Lots of space that could be used. Oh and the way the boyne valley club has been taking care of and adding to this course is amazing. They have made some great changes to so tees plus just the over all clean up. Good job guys.

Great course. A different verity of shots between open shots and tight wooded shots makes for a good time. Nice standing at the tee box and looking at the sign with the hole layout. Something that might need help is the tee boxes. Maybe have them all be wood with carpet, or something like that. But the local club is doing a great job on the whole course. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

Great course. Expect to use your whole bag. Chances for big arms to flex on open field shots and for finesse on wooded shots. Lots of angles and routes on many holes, fits to any style of play. Presents a challenge to seasoned players and is a great teacher course for beginners. Tee pads leave a little to be desired but the club is actively working to improve them, as well as the course. One of the best courses in the area

Honestly, one of my new favorites in Michigan. Beautifully maintained, with a creative layout, offering variety and scenery throughout the course. I personally love how hole 18 leaves you near the lookout point for an amazing view of the bay. Pros: Easy to follow, great hole signs, and excellent tee pads for not being concrete. Some of the pads were creatively done in such a manner that I almost prefer then to concrete. Only a few minor blind shots, but pretty straight forward as to the direc ...

(Copied from my review on DGCR) Pros: - Great maintenance all around including baskets. - Excellent use of existing topography. - Great flow from one hole to the next. - BEAUTIFUL tee signs. Something I've never considered before but having the signs in such a low placement - about 2 feet off the ground prevents hitting them with a follow-through. This is a great idea. - An awesome club that looks after this place. In fact, Boyne Valley DGC is a model for how a club ought to be run. Th ...

Great course. I have been only playing since June 2015 but I have learned a lot from playing this course. From long throws to tight technical shots, this course stretches your abilities. Thanks for having a local course for a sport that is exploding into the mainstream. For me, this is my way of getting up off the couch and getting a good workout while having fun. The only drawback is some uneven tee boxes. I have bad ankles and it's a worry that I will twist an ankle teeing off. Keep up the great work everyone at Boyne Valley Disc Golf Club!

Nice course lots of great looks. Fair holes. Hopefully a few holes are "works in progress" because there was a lot of lost potential on holes 7,10,12,14,15,18. Zero top of the world tee shots. Traverse all that elevation, not a single hole over 400. A plus for the course though is that each hole had a challenge. Some holes had more than one challenge or obstacle. Overall a good course for all the hard holes there is a birdie hole to complement it. As a pro I thought there could've been long tees ...

Beautiful course!!! One of my favorite in Northern Michigan. Challenging holes threw out. Plus it's a great workout. Boyne Vapley Disc Golf Club has done an amazing job to the course from the tee pads, to the signs. I recommend everyone trying this course out. Reminds me of a mini Fallsburg down in Lowell, MI

Very beautiful course in Northern Michigan! Bring a variety of discs because it will challenge all of your skills, from grip and rip to finesse putters. Test your forehand and thumbers as well. I rated it a B+ only because of diamond dust tees and long walks between some holes. I have not been there this year but last years improvements from Earlier years were huge! Kudos to the local club for stepping up and make this one of the better Northern michigan courses once again! I would love to come help pour some concrete or lay artificial grass for tee pads to make this an A+ course

Avalanche is a scenic course winding in and out of the woods offering nice shot variation. There's something for everyone here, tight hyper shots, skip shots, turn overs, long distance shots. Shooting a good round here requires you to have an arsenal of reliable tricks in your bag. Only thing I can say bad about it is the longest holes still seem to have dirt pit tee boxes; they're working on those. Also two anny shots, 12 and 16 I believe, air on the "nearly impossible to birds, scramble for par side".

Avalanche has come a very long way from when I was first here. The club has done a tremendous amount of work in tee pad leveling and making sure garbage cans are at nearly every hole. The carpeted Tees are great and way better than the previous gravel Tees. There are a few long walks between some of the holes, but the view at the top of Avalanche makes up for them.

So many great things to this course. Most of all it's fun, some of the holes are long and that's what makes the course fun. It's very well taken care of, that's brings me to the point of thanking the Boyne City Disc Golf Club. They do a very good job of making sure the course is fun and safe for the DiscGolfers and the hikers and bickers. Thanks again.

Love this course! There is one long walk between holes, and you have to share with hikers walking the paths/fairways which is fine (gives you a break from climbing). Beyond that, this course has a long way just from when I started playing it in 2009. All baskets well maintained, good signage both at the tee box, and to show you in which direction to go to the next tee. It's a climb to the top, but with a view like this course has, it's worth the walk up! Did I mention there's brooms on almost every hole?! So nice!

This is a great course to play on. Over the the years BVDG have put a lot of hard work into making Avalanche into what it is today. Every time I come back to play here something is always different, either new to pads or new holes or something as simple as having trash cans to keep it clean or new signs to help the flow of traffic. Over all Avalanche park is in my top 5 courses to play on in northern Michigan.

Avalanche Park is a nice course in Boyne city. Played it twice in he last few weeks. Extremely well maintained, and brooms on almost every tee pad. Good use of the land. Not a bombers course by any means. Longest holes might be 380ish. Technical but fair. I'm a lefty and i always had a normal throw. Will play this course again next year. Will play in the trilogy challenge as well. Guys who ran the tournament were top notch. Course set up great.

If you come to this picturesque, mountain course expecting the epic top of the world downhill shot, you are going to be DISCappointed. After I walked down the huge hill back to the parking lot, I grabbed the range finder & got a distance reading on the big hill. Over 800 feet. Can you just imagine an 800 foot downhill throw? Well, that's all you can do, imagine. The feeling of "this could be so much more" was gnawing at me because of how much property there appeared to be, but was not being ...

I come up to Boyne about 3 times a year and play this course as much as I can when I'm up there. Great signage, excellent shot variety, and just an over all beautiful course. My only piece of feedback would be to have the last hole on the course have a better view of lake charlevoix from the basket/teepad.

The park is beautiful and mountainous. The course used this elevation on a few holes, but I feel like it could have been much more interesting. There is only on set of tee pads and they are not concrete. The signage is ok except for a couple of spots where you have to hike quite a ways between holes. There was twice were I got lost and had to backtrack and search. There were several fairways that share space with a hiking/biking trail. This was definitely a downside because I had to wait on a fe ...
