Disc golf continues to grow exponentially but under the mainstream radar… This lifestyle sport has everything to do with landscape design, culture and leisure recreation for an increasingly urban world… Anyone interested in this subject should check out this 2013 MLA thesis from Cal Poly Pomona: Disc Golf Course Design: Inscribing Lifestyle into Underutilized Landscapes, for the short, cold months ahead:

Does anyone have any news on the proposed DG course in Rose Park? Markus told me the county allotted $10k for a temp course to be in by November, but obviously those plans have changed.
Saturday I talked to some golfers playing there. They said 25 years ago the par 3 section south of the main golf course was a DG course, and the county met in September to discuss plans for returning it to DG. The county's meeting agenda said the representative for the new course is Dan Roper. Anyone know more about this or how to contact Dan?

Does anyone have contacts with Murray City? I would like to propose a course on a stretch of the Jordan River Park/Path near the Willow Pond Park and Rec fields; aprx. 5800 S. and 600 W. Does Murray have any interest in funding a disc golf course I wonder? I drive by on I-215 and always see this park screaming disc golf. I have mapped out a possible 18 hole lay-out at 5,326 feet with a 400ft hole and 295 hole ave. I posted the pics on the Tunnel Runners Facebook page.
Talk to Doug Smith about it. He is having a meeting this Thursday with SL County parks officials (manage all the parks south of SLC proper) who are in charge of parks and public lands in Murray as well.
Dang, well I just got a reply to my e-mail to Kim Sorensen. He said "Unfortunately the area you have mapped out can't be used for this type of activity. The area was a dumping site during Murray's old mining days. Because of contaminants we are limited in what the area can be used for." :( Doesn't make much sense to me because people use the trails just as they would frolf.

So there are apparently two new courses that are opening up or have opened up in Utah county. Beacon Hills Park, a new 28 hole course in Highland, Utah. This course is apparently a combo of baskets and pole holes. Course designer wants feedback to make it awesome. And apparently there is a course in Cedar Hills in Heritage Park. Just letting the peeps know.
As for Heritage Park, this is a very short course and could be played with a putter. It does play in and around through some mature trees and across a small stream a couple times. There are some elevation changes here as well, but in my opinion the course could be laid out much better for the size ... more
I don't see a map for Heritage Park and have a hard time wanting to try a park w/o one. Even if it is a tentative map, can someone can post it? There is a picture of the Beacon Hills map that looks like it'll work for playing a round that I'm hoping to get to playing on Saturday!
I played the front 9 at Beacon Hills yesterday and it seemed pretty well laid out to start with. I will probably recommend some minor changes to the layout for holes 4,5,6, but otherwise, the course map there seems good. I have not seen a course map for Heritage Park. Also note that there are no ... more

So what is up with park city? We need to get a course up there, other than the thistle infested Canyons course. Trying to decide if I need to go to the city or maybe PCMR to pressure the ned for a course. I'm gonna get a hold of the tube hill people, across from Jermey Ranch. I can imagine an 18 hole course up there for sure.
Hell yeah! Either Jeremy Ranch or even a course in Kamas would be pretty awesome.
Yes please, I recruited a friend to the University of Oregon Disc Golf Team this year and she lives in PC, and has not been able to get any practice in this summer...
I just made a delivery to Utah Valley University. There us disk golf baskets NUMBEREDeven all around the campus. highest number I seen was 8. Anybody play there yet?

That is bad ass!! Dude, Jake, snaggin signatures at the Monster Energy Challenge would be sweet. Total side note. Have you guys heard of the 18 hole disc golf course in Springville Utah at Jolly Ranch up Hobble Creek Canyon. I just read a couple of articles that mentioned it online. Was curious if anyone has played it. Apparently there are baskets there. Anyways, signatures again would be bad ass. I don't have any official form or anything. I like Rory's idea of online stuff. But getting signatures at a tourney is an awesome idea.

I bet online signatures would work too and we could quickly setup something at:

Where do i get signatures? Maybe we can send the form to all the leaders of the clubs and then put all the signature forms together. Also it doesn't have to be disc golfers. Anyone that supports the sport can also sign, like my family is another 3 signatures i can get. If we can get this form or whatever if there is an online link or something, I can get signatures next weekend at the monster energy challenge. We can get them at the trickle, the breeze, and then I will be going to the cache ... more

Jake, Markus, Rory and all DISC GOLF IS AWESOME!! As you all know. First of Jake, YES, I am playing in both The Trickle and The Breeze, playing in the Semi-Competitive Division. Also, that is pretty sweet that you are going to the U of O to play for the Ducks and their disc golf club. Dude, you will be chilling with the likes of Dave Feldberg, which is totally bad ass. But yeah, I would love for us to all get together and hash out a strategy to get signatures or whatnot to present to Salt ... more

Hey Russ, I am leaving for oregon but i will be back christmas and all next summer. If you can get a little momentum going before next summer, I would love to help out. I live in South Jordan and hate having to drive to creekside and taylorsville. In my head i'm always designing 9 and 18 hole courses at the parks around south jordan so I could be of help there. If you are going to either of the SL county rec tournaments, let me know. i will most likely be going to "the trickle," a ... more

I'm in the process of doing the same thing with the city of Salt Lake (not the county), so the area in the valley north of about 2700 South. We submitted an appeal the the mayor and the city council and are waiting for a hearing relatively soon. Great prospect with potential location(s) and design in place. Go ahead and do the same for SL County. The more the merrier. Great initiative. I'll keep everyone in the loop on when we need large numbers of folks to show up for the city public hearing, but it's great to do this for the entire valley (incl. the county).
Rory McQuaid August 12, 2012 at 9:38am
Seems like Russ has done a whole lot of homework. We should get behind this effort in every way possible!
Russ Stout August 11, 2012 at 2:36am
Hello all. I just thought that I would post on some digging that I did as far as the development of new disc golf course in good ole Salt Lake. As you all may know, Salt Lake County is hosting two (2) disc golf tourneys next month at Creekside and Valley Regional. When I saw that I got pretty excited because I figured, hey this might be a good opportunity to touch base with the county and see what it would take to get some new disc golf courses installed. I spoke with a dude at the county by ... more

Is there anyone that lives in Herriman/Draper/Bluffdale? Anyone that lives in the south part of the valley knows that a course is needed in that area. The closest places to play are dry creek, creekside, and taylorsville so a course anywhere in that area would help out, even if it was just a little 9 hole course. If anyone is interested or can help that would be great

Park clean-up for Creekside park is Saturday April 28th

Rory thanks for asking. The meeting went really well. Unfortunately I can't spill the beans yet but great things are on the horizon. Sorry to be so vague for now, but I promise I'll fill you in as soon as I can. We still have to make sure that all inquires to the city go through me, but I think it will be great.

HELLO! BIG COTTONWOOD PARK! the section west of 1300th East and 4325 S. around the softball diamonds and throughout... so much potential!
Rory McQuaid April 23, 2012 at 9:16pm
Hey Markus,
How did the meeting with the city go last Friday?
Jason Beck April 13, 2012 at 4:43am
I'm excited like Rory. There are enough discers willing to put in the time and money (if necessary) to make a new course a reality, and soon. We just need to communicate effectively, and be organized. I know we can raise enough money once the time comes. Also, I have an update on the course at the U. I spoke to Mary Bohlig, Director Campus Recreation Services University of Utah ([email redacted]). She says they are trying to find somewhere else on campus to put the 9 baskets they remo ... more
Hi Blake, I live down there and would love to go have a look and provide my opinion if you would like it. Feel free to message me with some details!
