We've got 3 Pro Grand Masters and 1 AM Grand Master signed up for the MnM Series #1, "Near Wild Heaven", 4/26 at Manton, which is a PDGA C Tier and a J-Bird Series event. I am willing to switch to MPG, MG1, MM1, or MPM to accommodate players in any of these divisions. Also running a "double shot" side game for players who play this event and the Quinvitational, 4/27 at Ludington, a little more than an hour away from Wild Haven.

The 2014 Vibram Birdie Bash at Knollwood in Kalamazoo is coming up on May 17th! $30 gets you two Vibram discs, a dry fit shirt, a towel, and a Vibram mini!

Last year's Birdie Bash was an extreme success and I hope to see everyone there, the money raised from this tournament will go toward finishing up the installation of tee pads and tee signs.

May 3 and 4 are dates for the Southern Michigan Open in Ypsilanti. It looks like a few folks (including me) are hoping to get enough MG1 and MS1 players to have those divisions. A tier tournaments are special. This space is running out; pay and no pay registration is possible right now.

Sunday Nov.3 at 10am. BELLE ISLE DGC, Detroit. Tournament to keep hope alive for a permanent course no matter how the political issues are resolved. Sport transcends these differences. I'm going to my hometown to help with the message about Discgolf. Already enough enthusiasts to make it a good game. 20 bucks and good weather predicted.

There is a decent Masters Division, albeit Doubles Nov 2 @ Sunnybrook...

Fred Vocino   October 28, 2013 at 7:48pm

I saw that. As for BYOP, that's usually a little doubtful. Also, playing a "bomber" course the day before Belle Isle would wreck my arm. As it is, I'm about to start my winter R&R. Following up on your quest for ancient plastic treasures- I gave your number to Adam Weiss with a message about your interests. Good luck..,see you in spring.

Yesterday at Blue Gill the Old Guys Draw Dub's game was held; thanks to Joe Gill and Chuck DeVries, and 14 other great guys 46 or older. My extra treat was seeing Adam Weiss and Ray Hart. They were part of my earliest league: Royal Oak, Wagner Park, c.1984. (pre- Motor City Chain Gang).
The "OG Dubs" is the latest iteration of a dubs game that Chuck started recently. This 2013 event was won by Joe Gill who received the first trophy given. It was unanimously decided that eac ... more

If there is room for me next year, let me know. That sounds like something up my alley.

Fred Vocino   October 6, 2013 at 9:48pm

I will be keeping my eye open for the 2014 event. It came up impromptu this year and I was lucky to hear about it. Its a traveling game so we will have to have the right "favorites" on DGS to hear about it. I'll let you know when I do.

Michael Wildner    September 27, 2013 at 5:48pm

My 1st event at my new course, Wild Haven in Manton, will have Masters divisions, both pro and am. Saturday, October 5th. Camping available on site, night golf is in the forecast too. The four guys signed up so far are all at least masters age, and are pretty flexible about playing either pro or am. Two of us are too young to play GM or older though :)

Thanks for the notice. The two pics and my understanding of the terrain suggest a very nice layout. My schedule takes shape fairly early in the season. Others should enjoy Oct 5 and having another private course in Mi. Its a good sign for the future. I'm in Grand Rapids-not so far away.

Fred Vocino    September 27, 2013 at 2:33am

I sitting here getting a tx from my buddy Roger and I realize that late trny date changes have made masters coordination more difficult. So much of our future success depends on advance planning. We should think about our club response to trnys that are inserted in time and place that have a potential to break up divisions.

October 27 is the Goldenrod Championships. There is a Grand Masters division and I am registered. I am trying to get enough of us registered early so they will get a trophy for our division.

Jeff Hill   September 26, 2013 at 6:18am

I'll be there. Registering next week. For those that haven't played Goldenrod it is a challenging course. A good mix of woods, water and good basket placement. Always a great time at Grod!

Fred Vocino   September 27, 2013 at 10:05pm

My play / rest pattern gets started early in the season. At this point I start to wind-down for my winter arm rehab. I'll be sticking closer to home for my last three tournaments. Cheers to anyone getting a trophy.

Michael Wildner    July 24, 2013 at 9:26am

I have some upcoming unsanctioned events that are very Masters friendly, I use a format of singles for the 1st round, doubles for the 2nd round, partners based on scores from round 1: highest with lowest, 2nd highest with 2nd lowest, and so on. Tried this at Whitehall earlier this year and three of the top 6 were guys masters age or older. Events are:
Wild-Koondog-Capsule Invitational, Wild Haven, Manton, MI 8/17
Wild About Disc Fun(d) Raiser, River Road, Petoskey, MI 9/21

Cashless pre reg could mean lots of know shows ...just a thought.

Fred Vocino   May 11, 2013 at 12:26pm

The club has just started. Anticipating situations where coordinating the division players is needed- that started with May 25 to give lead time. Also note that tournaments that are distant from others in location and time would not get paired--up in the "opportunities" posts. The examples ... more

This is pretty cool, especially for the men who've been in the game for years. As the only female amateur Legend in maybe the world, lol, I'd love it if you could pull some Sr GM women out of the woodwork. Keep sending me missives and maybe I'll discover some women players more my age in this state. I'm weary of being tromped by 40 year olds. <G> Thanks!

We do have a shared mission. You should be able to track the development of the Club and see the opportunities for all age based divisions. The club administration could use a "correspondent" to serve the efforts for the female players. We have a pro and a male Am on the team already.

Thanks. We're going to need some brainstorming on the questions that come up as this thing gets going. As this will likely involve a balancing of interests among members and the preservation of good relations with the leagues and TDs, the club should show no bias as we pursue the primary object ... more

Whats the scoop on your new club?

Fred Vocino   April 28, 2013 at 2:54pm

I'm just now setting it up. The key is to spread the word and get a few people on the club "leadership " to take on some correspondence work and help resolve questions that come up. Interested? Take a look at the first piece I wrote and let me know what u think.

Josh Russell   April 29, 2013 at 8:11am

Yes. Count me in. I really thiink that more people look at how many are signed up and then don't play because there isn't enough older players already signed up. I've had to play in am3 before, which I don't mind, because some of the older players didn't sign up do to lack of registrants.
