2019 Planning Meeting

The 1st 2019 Planning Meeting will be 10/21 at the Lansing Brewing Company at Noon. We will be back in the Stockroom once again.

If you represent a club, league, or a promoter and you want to be a part of the 2019 planning process, you are invited to attend the meeting.

The usual topics are: 2018 recap, 2018 championship recap, berth & Feature Event reporting, 2019 berth and Feature Event discussion, & financials.

Typically, people play at round of disc golf before the meeting but, that is not something that I set up. I will leave that to someone to arrange.

MDGO Disc Order

To everyone that was awarded a berth to the Discraft Michigan State Championships, the MDGO is doing it’s yearly disc order for everyone involved. Even if you are not interested in ordering any discs you need to select the models you want in your berth packages. If you do not select your molds, molds will be selected on your behalf.

Berth Request for 2018

The MDGO is now accepting Berth request for the 2018 season. Please read berth rules prior to requesting Berths.Please send all request through the mdgo.org site. http://test.mdgo.org/wp/
Under the Club info Berth/FE request form

This year the cost will be $20 per berth. Along with the normal Berth package you will also get a Z Custom MDGO hot stamped disc (disc yet top be determined). This disc is not part of the Berth package and may be used as each club wishes.

Heres how this voting will work.
Voting will take place on the Yahoo Group Site.
All MDGO Clubs that have purchased Berths or have been awarded berths in 2017 are eligible to vote.
Only 1 Vote per club or entity.
Vote for up to 3 people. 1 must be a player and 1 must be a non player
If we receive 2 or more votes from the same club the clubs votes will be void.
I will not track down and resolve any of the voided votes so do it correct !
Check with the others in your club if you think someone else may vote for your club.
Please keep this as easy as poss for us involved :)
Michigan Disc Golf Hall of Fame
Administered by the Michigan Disc Golf Organizational
Goal:
To recognize those people in Michigan have been instrumental in making Michigan Disc Golf the great sport it is.
Process:
Every year starting in 2015 any Michigan resident can nominate people in the Michigan Disc Golf community who they feel are important to the Michigan Disc Golf legacy.
The MDGO will then vote three people from the nominees to be inducted in the Michigan Disc Golf Hall of Fame annually beginning in 2015. 1 vote only per club or entity can select up to 3 choices. After five (5) years in 2020, the MDGO will revisit this process and make any appropriate changes.
Nominations will be accepted July 1 til July 15 Voting will be online and start on July 16 and finish on July 18.
Candidate Attributes:
The following two attributes are the basis on which the election of nominees to Honored Membership is to be considered:
Player:
Playing ability, sportsmanship, and character.
Builder:
Promoter, Organizer, Entity where applicable, or any other significant contribution whose role helps grows the Michigan Disc Golf Community.
The election will be open to the MDGO clubs or entities. Each club or entity will be able to cast 1 vote. Every past Hall of Fame inductee will also be able to cast a vote. The top three vote winners will be inducted.
Hall of Fame Hosting:
The Hall of Fame will reside in a virtual form on the MDGO web site www.mdgo.org.
A plaque with the names and year of induction will also be made. It will be a traveling plaque to but not limited to: Michigan State Championships, FE's, and other important Michigan Disc Golf Events.
It will be the PDGA State coordinators responsibility to host it when it is not on the move.
Hall of Fame:
The MDGO every year will create a disc honoring that years inductees. This will be a fund raiser disc for the MDGO.
The MDGO will also have a plaque made to give to the inductees. This is for recognition for their contributions to Michigan Disc Golf.
The Hall of fame inductees will receive their award and be recognized at the Michigan Disc Golf Championships.

The amount that is owed per group can be found in the spreadsheet on the MDGO User Group that I uploaded in late December. That amount for each club should cover discs & berths. If I made a mistake, please point it out now.

Payments are expected at the time of pick up. We accept cash, check, and Paypal.

If you cannot be there at that day and time, here are some options:

1. See if someone else can get them for you. Keep in mind that you must have paid for these for someone to pick them up. So, also make arrangements to send your money to that person that is picking up your discs/berths. Send the money to that person and not someone else in the MDGO. Please do not spam the group looking for someone to pick up your discs, if you need to do this, please ask people off group.

2. Contact Jeff Schwass for him to make arrangements for them to be shipped from Disraft to your location. It will be at your additional cost to do this obviously. I would ask that you do this only as a last resort.

DGLO/USADGC Spotters

We are looking for a limited number of spotters Friday - Sunday at DGLO (The Toboggan only) and the following weekend at USADGC . This is preferably an all day commitment however, if you cannot do a whole day we may be able to work you in. Because of the removal of the autumn olive on the course the number of spotters is much smaller than in years past. All spotters will be provided with a dri fit shirt, lunch, and some x out discs provided by Discraft. If you are interested in spotting for the event, please post here, indicating the days that you are available to spot. Thanks!

2013 Discraft MDGO State Series

2667 discs (including berths) were ordered this year by the MDGO clubs from Discraft. It's going to be a good 2013 for disc golf in Michigan.

We will also be giving away 14 Chainstar portables throughout the season.

There will be 3 different discs to collect again this year but unlike previous years you can buy the one(s) that you do not win. See your local MDGO reps!

To help address the sandbagging issues at the Michigan State Championships, a motion was made and the Motion was passed:
a. For the Am2/Am3 (including the women) divisions in Featured Events, if there is a player that takes 1st or 2nd place and that player has never had a PDGA membership the Featured Event will deduct from that player’s payouts $35 to cover the cost of buying them a PDGA membership.

d. Non-current PDGA members do not apply.
e. The MDGO will reimburse $17 to the FE to help cover any loss.
f. It is HEAVILY stressed that this needs to be advertised so the player base is aware of this prior to the event.

This was passed to address the issue of players not having player ratings. Even if they are not current, the TD does get a file from the PDGA that includes the player's rating.

Rescheduled meeting to Saturday September 22

Due to circumstances out of my control I will need to re-schedule the first meeting from Sunday September 23 to Saturday September 22.
I have recently changed jobs for the first time in 13+ years and would not be able to host the meeting then.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

This weekend at states Jeffrey H Schwass had his golf bag stolen frm his home.
We will be posting the contents and we what your help in finding the low life that took this. All discs have his name on them.
