Kansas State @ Mid-South Collegiate Open, Jonesboro AR
Members of the K-State club will be traveling to Jonesboro, AR this weekend to compete in the Mid-South Collegiate Open! This will be our first event of the year and our first chance to qualify for the 2015 National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships. Stay tuned for updates. Kansas State Earns Bid to 2014 NCDGC
(From NCDGC Facebook post): "Cyclone Open final results are in from the tundra of Iowa. Players enjoyed the sun even though they still froze as the temperature was -8 degrees to start the day.

Region 3 - Upper Midwest Select Qualifier, Ames IA
Through process of selection by nomination, these players will be competing in the Cyclone Open in Ames, IA for the chance to earn Kansas State a bid to the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships:

The team will be leaving on Friday, February 28th . Competition takes place March 1-2 at the following courses:

These courses are pretty decent, Stable Run is quite a bit more wooded, and Carroll Marty is a bit more open with a couple longer holes if I remember right. We have our work cut out for us with these haha.

Spring Semester 2014 Preview
I hope everybody enjoyed the winter holidays and the time off from school. With the start of classes approaching, the collegiate competition schedule is going to tighten up and be very busy. I'm very excited for the months ahead and look forward to Kansas State returning to the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships. Here is a quick breakdown of the semester's events:

Practice Location Change, Saturday December 7th
We are going to be practicing in the MAC gym indoor facility at the Rec tomorrow (Saturday) at 1:30pm. A couple of portable baskets will be available for some putt & approach practice. Make sure you bring your K-State student ID to get in.

Practice Location Change, Friday October 18th
Due to inclement weather, we will be practicing at the Rec on the indoor soccer/hockey field at 5:30pm. Meet in the lobby at the north entrance a few minutes ahead of time if you're unsure where the field is located. Mitchell and I will be bringing our portable baskets to practice P&A. If people are interested, we may head down to Rusty's in Aggieville for a team dinner (burger/fry baskets $1.50 with purchase of drink).

The final results from the qualifier tryout rounds have been calculated. Here are the players that will be competing in the Heartland Collegiate Disc Golf Championships in Ottumwa, IA:

The team will be leaving on Friday, October 4th. The tournament will be comprised of two rounds of Doubles on Saturday, October 5th and two rounds of Singles on Sunday, October 6th. The courses being played are Memorial Park and Indian Hills Community College.

Qualifier Tryout Rounds
In order to determine which players will be competing in the Heartland Collegiate Disc Golf Championships (Ottumwa, IA) we will be conducting a series of tryouts. Each player is required to participate in a total of three (3) rounds. Players are allowed to play a maximum of two qualifying rounds at any of the courses, but only the best score of the two will be recorded. 2013-14 Sponsorship Campaign (Fundraising)
Our sponsorship campaign is ready to begin. I will post a link to the letter and form that you can print off and mail out to family, friends, businesses that you think would be interested in contributing as a disc golf team sponsor. Just a reminder that $50-level sponsors and above will be recognized on the back of our club jerseys.
The goal is to secure at least 10 jersey sponsors, or $500 to help finance the costs associated with traveling to tournaments (entry fees, lodging, gas). Leave ...

Update (9/26): Contacted the Little River Disc Golf Club (hometown club) and Discs Unlimited about sponsorships. Neither of them were available when I called, but I will follow up with them when I get a chance.
^^^ Followed up with the Little River group and sent the forms to the club director. Sounded enthusiastic about getting their names out there and helping the K-State team. Possible GOLD level sponsor ($100), should hear back from him next week.
(10/1): Received a phone call from Discs Unlimited. Verbal commitment for $100 sponsorship.

Club Meeting | Thursday, September 5th

Practices will resume on Fridays at 5:30pm at Fairmont Park. See you all there.
Make sure to bring all ideas and suggestions. Practice, fundraising, ect. Whatever it is, we want to hear it and better to get it said now so we can implement it early.

Welcome Back! OSAS Club & Activities Fair
Hope you all had a great summer. We're ready to begin an exciting season and we're kicking things off at the OSAS Club & Activities Fair. This is a prime recruiting opportunity as there will be lots of new students seeking to get involved. The event is held in the Student Union from 6-8pm.
I will be setting up our table (second floor, Table 109) around 5:30pm. Feel free to bring any disc golf gear to contribute to the appearance of our table.

2013 NCDGC Standings
As the season comes to a close this weekend with the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships taking place down in North Augusta, SC, I found some noteworthy highlights regarding our national standing:
**We are currently ranked 36th out of 84 schools nationally.
**Out of the schools that did not receive a bid to Nationals, we were only 3 places from receiving the points bid (Awarded to the school with the most cumulative points that has not yet qualified for the NCDGC)

The St. Louis qualifier for NCDGC is rapidly approaching! I have reserved the Kemper Foundation Conference Room in Hale Library, which is located on the 4th Floor (Hale 401B). Warner Park Follow-Up (Parks & Rec)
Members of the local disc golf affiliations gave a presentation to the city Parks and Recreation Advisory Board at the beginning of November. After realizing that further discussion would be necessary before proceeding with the "Next 9 Phase" of Warner Park, the board has scheduled disc golf to be a topic on this month's agenda.

Winter Schedule
Just a quick reminder that the K-State Doubles League has been moved to Saturdays at 1:30 PM through the winter months. With that in mind, we will follow the university calendar for holiday breaks meaning there is will be no official league for the next two Saturdays (11/17 - 11/24).

Region 3 - Upper Midwest Qualifier, Ottumwa IA
Our first chance at qualifying for the 2013 National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships is being held Friday and Saturday, October 5-6 in Ottumwa, Iowa. This qualifying tournament is the closest in proximity to Manhattan, KS (339 miles/5 hours, 43 minutes). We can take up to two teams of 4 players each: 1 team for the Championship Division and 1 team for the First Flight Division.
