Kincaid Park is a great public recreation area, I'd personally rather see us do something like the Nordic Ski Assn. does with the sale of their trail pins. I don't know that the municipality would want to do so anyway...what is your reasoning for it?

I'm a huge proponent of making nicer courses pay to play. If we could swing it- and especially if the front 9 turned out phenomenal- I would love alcantra to be p2p. But that's beside the point- even if we do get the front 9 in we have other issues to deal with first- atvs on the course, reckless/illegal activity in the parking lot, etc. But I'm against making kincaid p2p. It's not often that I can make it all the way out there, and adding more money to the fuel I have to buy would make this guy a very rare sight on that course. Instead, consider making it free to current members of ANY disc golf association. That would reduce abuse of the course and encourage those who are determined to play to just shell out the 25 bucks for a membership somewhere. There's the bit of income, there's the sport growing, and there's the reduction in damage and abuse to the course.

That would help to keep the rec players who just want to get shitfaced and throw one disc as hard as possible over and over regardless of people on the fairway, and drop their beer cans wherever- that would reduce the number of them. And a $300 fine for course fee nonpayment would go to the city.

We have a wuantity problem not a quality problem , the course we have are fine for now . What we need now are 2 9 hole rec/ int courses to dpread the crowds and to encourage more to take up the sport . We need to make the city see that more courses equals less mess and damage. I use this anology to discribe our problem . 30.000 skiers and 2 ski trails , just how trashed are those trails going get . We have that problem . We need to look for grants and sponsers for the cost of baskets and tees.

Ive scouted 2 parks that have the space and parking we need ,both could go in pretty easy and be challenging to rec and int players . Once we get our sport growing again we can improve our championship level courses in town . I think growing the sport and improving our image in the eyes of the city and state is very important right now. I have a few ideas on how to do it .

Foot traffic causes wear, yes, but wanton distraction, vandalism and littering is a whole other thing. Keep an eye out for a kincaid level course in the valley. It's in the planning stage right now, and I can't say much just yet anyway. But I would say get after all the schools first and see if you can get some rec courses put in. Mach 1 baskets and 9 250' or shorter holes. Make them quick to play and beginner friendly and easily accessible.

Oops. I'm in on. I'll be out there shoveling the sand and gravel with you, mixing concrete, operating backhoes and loaders and tractors, whatever. I think a city meeting is in order though where officers get sworn in and receive a ticket book. I love the courses in town as I love the one I put my heart and soul into this summer in the valley- I want to see and play more courses, but I also want the maintenance, treatment and public image of all the courses in the state of Alaska to reflect the love the dedicated members have for them. No beer cans, no vandalism, and never a fear of having your head laid open with a disc tossed by a careless jackass (it really hurts guys, trust me.) But spread the courses out by all means! I know this club can have a course no further than a 5 minute drive away from any location in the city within a few short years, but we need to earn the trust of the city and it's residents first.

Louie and I have been working with a tax specialist and were advise the ADGA needs to have an election and file our current bylaws with the State and Federal Government to have our nonprofit status renewed. We had no intention of holding election at my house that night. This was a regular meeting with no action taken. Chris Schaefer moved to WAshington (can't remember why) and so Edan volunteered to fill her position as well as my own because on else wanted to. The more I learn about all that is going on and that has taken place in the last year the more concerned I am about the current direction of the ADGA. u00a0There are a few things that concern me with regards to the fact that by far the most members are from anchorage and it is seeming the more I look into things that a majority of benefits are not being used or reserved for anchorage. I would like to attend the next meeting and participate in an open election bc I could be wrong but it seems that anchorage contributes by far way more money from our leagues than any other club. Do other clubs contribute money from each league to the ADGA? It seems if we are contributing the majority of money we should have more of a say in how it's used. That being said I want to make it clear that I think we should support and assist with all associations in Alaska but I think it needs to be a per capita kind of thing. I want what everyone else wants when it comes down to the big picture, to promote the growth of DG in AK but obviously we need some revamping of the current bylaws and elected positions. u00a0Please let me know when and where the next meeting and leagues will be held. I could be wrong but I think that part of the reason we were unable to have a king of the bowl this year was because of funding issues. The percent of money that anchorage brings in verse the percent spent on anchorage tourneys seems like it might be off. I u00a0can't be sure and would like the details of what money is being used where and for what purposes hence my request to know when and where the next meeting and elections will be held. As far as you spending your own time and money, I appreciate that. I'm certainly not trying to ruffle feathers or get into all the hoopla about bylaws and the such but after reading everything on the news feed since last week it's got me thinking that I spend a fair amount of money as a member through membership fees, leagues and tourneys and it would be somewhat ignorant of me to not want to be more knowledgeable about where that money is going. I agree that there are two courses of action that we can take at this point. As the current bylaws state that the ADGA was founded to promote dg in Anchorage, we could continue operating as such and create a new statewide association. The impression I got when talking to folks last night at league was that people here in Anchorage feel that the club should remain focused on Anchorage matters and that a new statewide association be created. I think that everyone agrees that we need a statewide org, the disagreement seems to lie in whether that org should be the ADGA (with amended bylaws) or should be a new org entirely. At face value it seems like it would be easier to make this transition by creating a new statewide association rather than redefining what the ADGA is. As Thad G. stated, we shouldn't get stuck on the name the association currently has. I am also under the impression that folks here in Anchorage are concerned with the existing club's monetary assets essentially becoming "shared" resources, as many of them feel that the lion's share of this revenue has been generated by efforts here in the Anchorage area.

Isn't one of the reasons all this has come up is because the ADGA can't be both the Anchorage club (whose leadership can, and is currently, based outside of Anchorage) and the state organization? It's like saying the Delaware state government should be the US government body since it was the first state admitted to the union.

Anchorage essentially has their own club already going but what their needs to be some distinction between the two.

I want course maintenance, new course designs and proposals, bigger tourneys, better players packs, and more participation for anchorage. I'm already confident that the other clubs/associations have that handled. Anchorage is not quite on track

I put the Outlaw club on hold in order to not cause any damage to the ADGA . I felt that if I didnt like how the club was doing I needed to get back involved with the board and work to make changes and improvments

The bylaws haven't been addressed or even looked at since this was brought up originally within the last year. Obviously the bylaws state that the ADGA's mission has been to promote growth within the city of Anchorage. At that time, that was where the only course was in the state! Obviously the mission at the time was to grow it within the city, now look around and think about how many courses have from the explosion of DG in Alaska? The ADGA has certainly outgrown is purpose from what was originally intended in 2004. An "Association" in my mind encompasses the state and all local affiliations. I DO strongly believe that Anchorage already has its own club, they just don't know it.

I would suggest that all ADGA members but old and new take a very close look at these bylaws and ask themself if they feel comfortable or not with them. Do we want the ADGA to represent and encompass the entire state of Alaska and all the disc golf clubs that we have locally within the state or do we want the ADGA to simply represent Anchorage? Lots of things to think about but we need to remember that disc golf is a huge passion of everyones here and we need to continue to grow and further the sport as much as we can within our local areas as well as the entire state. I personally think these bylaws are a little out of date and need revamping to reflect our current mission and goals. Looking forward to hearing more from others so please give these a good look!

I imagine that since it was the only DG club in Alaska at that time it took on the task of trying to be organised for the entire state. I don't understand how we can elect a board when we don't even know what the ADGA stands for and who it represents. How can we go ahead and elect a board if we still aren't sure if the ADGA encompasses the entire state or just Anchorage? If the ADGA encompasses the entire state then it will be important for us to have local representatives on the board along with club officers (Juneau, Homer, FBX, Mat-Su, etc...) As important as growing the sport is within our local regions, I think the ADGA needs to continue to be the umbrella organization for which all local clubs are a part of. If folks in Anchorage want to start their own disc golf club then I think that is a wonderful idea.

I think that if the change is going to be made then a new state wide "umbrella" association needs to be made. Not a rewrite or redefinition of what the adga was/is. I think everyone is missing the point on how important renewing non profit status is, to protect our members who's names are attached to the association directly. There's tax issues involved

That is fine with me Josh but the ADGA needs to be known as the Anchorage Disc Golf Association and not the Alaska Disc Golf Association. I agree renewing our non profit status is LONG overdue. we have tried for years to make this a reality and it seems like it was always one thing or another. We do need to protect members names who are attached ot the association directly but we first need to create a collective understanding of what the ADGA actually is. It is statewide or just within the city limits of Anchorage?

The current bylaws state that the ADGA's purpose is to promote disc golf within Anchorage. I have thought for some time that the ADGA should be an umbrella organization - but as Brian said at the meeting we can't just dissolve the ADGA to make this happen. If we were to do so, the current bylaws state that all the money held by the association would have to be paid out to ADGA members through a tournament. I'm not sure how we could dissolve the current association in order to create two new ones without essentially giving away our capital resources. The Alaska Disc Golf Association needs to be statewide in order to encompass all members. However, i think the volume of members in each region/association should reflect the effort put into each division.

I agree with Kurtis that we need to determine what we want the ADGA to be for the future, but we HAVE to have an elected board in order to renew our non-profit status. ADGA. (sorry, did it again) If we were to create two separate organizations a great portion of the revenue currently going to the ADGA would be redirected to the new Anchorage club. If this were the case would the Anchorage club fund projects/tournaments in the bowl area while the other local clubs do the same in their respective locales?

We need to get a elected board in place, restore our non profit status than we can get down to the business of sorting out Tournament Schedule, Amend the Bylaws that are either incorrect (renewal fee) or no longer apply. I do think we need a Anchorage club . I think we might be able to do it if we do like Motorcycle clubs do it and all the clubs become Charter clubs of the ADGA and a portion of proceeds go back to the ADGA and drawn on by every club that contributes. Its just a rough idea . But lets get a board in place and get the non profit restored first

Of course it should. Remember a couple winters ago when I changed it for that reason... then the bitchin' began. I think gettin' twisted the night before outweighs playing two rounds.
