I have to agree with Patrick on the tee pad issue. I was thrown off several times at Scottville because of the pads. I understand the issue Jeff brought up with it but do feel like even a more level surface there would improve the course a ton. I did hear several other players complain about the danger of the tee areas but of course none of them would say what Patrick has due to fear of backlash such as what we see here now. These guys all bust their humps every year to make this event awesome a ... more

@Patrick
If you took that as me calling you a bagger, I apologize. I was referring to you saying that you were not calling anyone baggers at the tournament. You did in your blog. That's what I was calling you out on. I am sure there were baggers there. Can't be stopped. Even at an A-tier people would find a way to make it happen if they really want to.
As for Juniors and PDGA memberships, why should they need one? They can get one, I agree. But what if their parents can't affor ... more

Patrick, you made the comment "something i had not prior considered" in regards to offending jbird. in reading your blog it seems there are a lot of things you have not considered. there are so many things that go into building and maintaining courses, things like money and getting approval and manpower. I had a problem with almost everything you wrote but the idea of moving the tourney away from ludington really blew my mind. why in gods name would you want to do that and where would ... more

@Jimmy - I agree that the youth is the future of our sport, and nothing prevents kids from getting PDGA memberships either. There's no age requirement for one. I am sorry you view my opinions on it to be whining. I never stated sponsor were not there, I know several were. Was just my opinion that A-tier could draw in more. Though I understand where Keith is coming from in as having any other sponsor types set up shop, would be offensive to Jbird. Something I had not prior considered. I ... more

Keith missed one important item- all MDGO meetings are open- Sept 23, 2012 noon- 4480 Stone Barn Rd, Milford, MI Todd Whites house- ANYONE can attend these meetings with concerns/ideas- be prepared howerver to step up to the plate and help make thoses ideas happen- though our MDGO group has grown it is a small percentage that try to make this a top notch event- and YES- having a B-tier and letting ALL play and PAYING it as an A-Tier is what we decided was best
One more note- everybody seems to ... more

I read your blog. I have to agree with Joe. You are whining. If you really don't like the courses then you have the option to not play. You said the sponsers weren't there? One of the owners of Discraft was up on Mt. Discraft watching the final 9. If the clubs that are helping run the tournament are allowed to set up a merch table at the course they are working at, so much the better for them and their club. If they are doing things for the right reasons they might be able to ... more

The "Wind" basket raffle was won by I believe was Scott Spear jr or sr.

Hi Keith. Who won the basket raffle? I had expected a phone call by now:-)

On a different note, I read the review. It made me laugh. Tee pads. Nice bro. You are clearly a weak sauce golfer and are crying about needing more protection from the players who don't play tournaments. Haha. Winning Rec don't make you the state champion. Hahaha.

I have a question about the event becoming an A-teir.
Don't you have to be a member to play in an A-teir event? If that is so, I think that would hurt the tournament more than it would benifit it. The number of players would surely drop in most divisions. There already aren't a lot of Juniors playing and there would probably be less if a PDGA membership is required. They are the future of our sport and I for one don't think it would be right to exclude them. I think the directors ... more

Patrick,
I will bring you concerns to the MDGO meeting later this month.(we have a meeting in Sept already aaarrrgggghhh).
I do tho believe your title tho was a little harsh. "Ruining".

Mark hit most of the points I would have responded with and I am looking into ideas to resolve/help the "bagger" issues. ie giving PDGA membership as a prize for non members.

Also remember that the Ludington courses were all bought & maintained by the club. The park system dose n ... more

@mark I believe the 1 extra dollar and lowering our payouts would likely be covered by the additional sponsors an A-tier event could pull in. As for the dates. As Kieth has shown before. PDGA are not that strict and critical I am pretty sure they'd give Schwass the dates he asked for.

I understand theirs no "Player advantage" if we all play on the same course. That wasn't my point. Some of the tee areas are mini rolling hills, asking to break an ankle.

There may no ... more

keith i think its amazing you made the call to have this tournament included in the ratings update. that is above and beyond and as for the players as directing a tournament gets. to make that kind of added effort after the fact and after everything else all of you have already done is outstanding. while others wanna run you off or just run events to benefit themselves i wanna say thanks. because even though i couldnt make it this year i knew if i did it would be one hell of a show. speaking of which maybe some of the people that played this year would be better off watching from now on.

Just as a side note of an A v B tier here are some reasons why to not have one You request to run an A Tier and request a date. The PDGA awards you a date. If it is the date you wanted, great. If not, too bad that is your date. Also the PDGA collects $1 more for each player ($4 total) so payouts would be $100 more less each division. Dynamic Discs drive all his way because they made a RV load of money to doing so...

Why Ludington? There are lots of courses. It is a vacation destination ... more

My definition of a "bagger" is someone who knowingly and purposefully plays in a lower division than their skill level just to get a win. Some people just have there best rounds of there life at a tournament and properly move up. I am not calling anyone in the tournament a "bagger", as I don't know anyone. Though I do believe during the year people played lower divisions just so they could grantee themselves a berth. (IE played am3, to get a berth and then played am2 or am1 in the tournament.. This has happened a lot every year and a couple repeat offenders.)
