Hello again. Please respond to this post with your thoughts and ideas for or against. I'd like player's opinions before a decision is made.
We are considering raising the registration from 80 (two ghost groups) to 90 players - 5-somes - no ghost groups. I know it is common practice in Michigan to keep to a 4 per hole limit but the PDGA allows for 5 per group. Consider the pros and cons below:
Pros - More players get to play, higher payouts for all
Cons - The potential for sl ...

Hopefully you Open players are taking note of the added cash. We're at $60 right now and I expect that number to go up quite a bit over the next couple of weeks. Keep an eye out as the number grows!
Ron Sampson June 20, 2014 at 7:01pm
if I had a choice id play with Ramsdale
Fred Vocino June 19, 2014 at 11:56pm
It looks like there will be no MS1 division and my move to MG1 would not today make that division possible. Before I resort to MM1 or AM3 I will listen for other ideas.
I'd be more than willing to play MG1, if that helps.
It would help me and Sampson, but leaves with two MM1s. Let's wait a bit to hear what the rest can do.

in my opinion u can never make everyone happy so either way ur gonna make someone upset so screw it and let em in more money more prizes quit ur ****in
u the man zack
all I heard was Jon wants more money.
depends how congested you expect it to get with groups of 5. if its an extra 2 minutes per hole its no big deal, but if its "cool down" slow, then its an issue affecting flow and fun.
I will roll with whatever you decide (and I promise not to complain) but I feel a 5 some is just way too slow. The pace is going to be slow as it is with a very full course at 4 per hole. Regardless, this is a tough call and I appreciate all your efforts in making this happen. Thanks!
5 somes ate ok with me newly available spots should be open only tho ;)
the open players are the slowest of all!=)
lol sadkins u crack me up son when u gonna b somewhere playing in a tourney and am1s are by far the slowest players
thanks for the feedback everyone. The only problem spot with regards to backups is hole #5. Not sure that there's anything that we can do about that, 4 or 5 somes.
I don't mind 5packs but like I saw above for fun and flow 4somes please.
I'd have to vote for foursomes. Nothing worse then waiting on every hole. But whatever you decide I'll be glad to be out there playing:) thanks for all the efforts and all you do Zach!
Any time the players exceed #holes x 4 you have waits too long for some. Impatience is subjective- some "chomp at the bit" naturally. One solution is to have the waiting occur at the start of the round, so the between hole (cool down) waiting is reduced. Having only 36 holes make it less o ... more
Any time the players exceed #holes x 4 you have waits too long for some. Impatience is subjective- some "chomp at the bit" naturally. One solution is to have the waiting occur at the start of the round, so the between hole (cool down) waiting is reduced. Having only 36 holes make it less of a long-day concern. Consider pulling cards from 6-9 and 15-18 and put them into groups including the ghost (or 5th player) registrations. Those 4somes will have tee times on holes 1 and 10. This modified shotgun may work where the gaps are big enough to accomodate the numbers with later tee times. Lunch cannot be a set time of day- instead a new first-last tee times would be assigned. This does shift the waiting from between holes to before and after holes. You might want to have some ping-pong, jenga, and crayon tables around.
Prefer to keep it 4 per group.
is the course going to be closed? not sure if township will allow this. 5's + casuals would be too much, hate to turn away the people and added cash/ prizes. either way I will be there.
how about adding 2 holes or 24,hole layout you guys used for some of the doubles you have run
The club wants to get PDGA ratings on both 18 hole layouts so adding holes is not an option this year.
I charted the tee-time/shot-gun hybrid...a wait time of about 30 minutes would also occur after 9 holes of play. If 4 chunks of 9 holes of normal speed is not good enough, the answer may be to split the divisions over two days in 2015.
backups suck. Yes, it's nice to have more players and more cash. However, if people wanted in they should have payed enough attention and regged sooner. Disc Girls Gone Wild filled in like 2 weeks, nearly 5 months prior to the event. We didn't add holes and make everyone play in 5 somes ju ... more

Disc Girls Gone Wild filled in like 2 weeks, nearly 5 months prior to the event. We didn't add holes and make everyone play in 5 somes just to accomodate. Jump on board early or miss out. You won't see me whine about not getting into an event because I did not reg early enough. I view that as my fault and no one elses, ESPECIALLY when there is cashless prereg. Can't use the living paycheck to paycheck excuse for cashless prereg. Just my 2 cents.
^^well said
pdga rating is a player rating not a course rating. one day a 4 down might be 1000 rated but if next tourney higher rated players show and am 2 shoots 4 down it goes to a 980 rating . so not adding holes doesn't make sense
Each layout will receive an SSA (scratch scoring average) based on tournament play. SSA's typically don't fluctuate more than a stroke given same condition of play, no matter who shows up (in theory, there are some anomalies out there).
Everyone that's planning on playing is most likely expecting to spend most of the day there anyway. What's another hour if more people get to play. ..
5 somes at tourneys just suck. Yes, it's allowable, but not fun. Hard to get in a groove when you have to wait on EVERY hole. Ok... I'm done. Myself and at least one other woman have discussed dropping if it goes to 90 players. Just makes for too long of rounds, too long of waits, and too long of a day.
We will be keeping the current registration numbers and playing in 4-somes.
YAY!
Thank you Mr. Vaughn!
