Are you tired of saying “ I can’t wait to throw discs ”!
Want a good primer to get ready for this season just around the corner?
Would you like to match your skills against fellow competitors… Indoors!!!
Then come join us for 2 hours of fun!

When: March 2nd (Monday evening).
Time: 6:30p to 8:30p.
Where: House of the Lord gymnasium
1650 Diagonal Rd. Akron, Ohio
(heated, excellent lighting, approximately 120ft by 60ft.)

If you can get there earlier than 6:30 for sign up etc; that would be great. Then we could have more gym time for the event.

Cost: $8.00 (includes gym rental, pizza, beverage, payouts and hopefully a trophy or two).
All extra money will be equally divided into. Half donated to the church
and the other half towards next year’s event.

Maximum entrants: 30 due to the available space and safety concerns. This is my best guess for the layout vs participants. I really tried to design it (10th revision) so no one would get hit by any stray throws. Hopefully we can grow it bigger next year.
Skill level is key (looking for competitors that can throw the shots listed below,
(also see the excel attachment labeled Topical View 2 4 15)
Distances for Event #1 will be 30, 40, and 50ft. For Event # 2 : 100ft.

Payouts: See comments by clicking on news for the latest amounts and updates

Event #1: 5 challenging holes consisting of:
Hole #1: RIGHT to LEFT (must throw around barrier to basket).
Hole #2: UP HILL (throw upward approximately 10 ft. elevated basket near top of bleachers).
Hole #3: FLOATING (must throw over 5 ft. barrier into basket).
Hole #4: DOWN HILL (throw from top of bleachers down to basket approximate drop is 10 ft.)
Hole #5: LEFT to RIGHT (must throw around barrier to basket).
NOTE: Any technique will be allowed as long as the disc travels the designated path of the obstacle. Examples: sidearm, switch, tomahawk, disc upside down etc... are all good!

Format: there will be 30 minute open practice session.
Then there will be 5 groups consisting of 5 to 6 competitors per group.
Each group will receive a scorecard. Please select someone to keep score and fill in the names.
Shot gun start (example: group #5 will start at hole #5 at the first of three distances 30 feet).
Each competitor will throw three consecutive discs and record any that stayed in the basket.
You will then watch from behind your group members as they putt.
After the last person in your group has finished, your group will then retrieve your disc’s and proceed to the next numerically correct hole.
After all 5 groups have completed the course, the tee markers will be moved 10 ft. further away from the basket to 40 feet.
The 3rd and final round tee markers will be moved to the 50 ft. distance.
The group scorecards will then be tallied to determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes.

Event #2: The 100 ft. Putt. Format: two baskets/ two lines/ all competitors will throw 1 disc at their designated basket.
If only 1 person scores a goal out of the 1st complete round, they are the winner.
If no goals are made out of the 1st round, a second round will be started etc…
If in the event 2 or more goals are scored within a single round, a sudden death will determine the winner.
The sudden death will start at 50 ft. and be shortened by 5 ft. until only one has made a goal and one has missed.

What you will need to bring:
3 putters or 3 discs that you want to use for this course, again all distances will be 100 ft. or less (don’t forget about those tricky anhyzer shots!).
If you do not have 3 putt and approach disc, no problem, let me know so we can bring enough extra disc’s for you to use.
That being said for all of you that do have extras please bring some extras for those who might need to borrow them. I will have sheet to record who borrowed who’s disc, so there should not be any missing discs at the end.
None marking soles: This floor was recently refinished and Dru Joyce (LeBron James former high school basketball coach) holds a huge annual tournament there, so we want to leave it in the same condition as we found it. Additionally, there is no smoking on the premises.
Also anyone that can bring a basket please let me know. I have 1, so we need 4 more.
Possible Event #3 (time permitting): a round of Knock Out.
Get your putt in before the person in line behind you gets theirs in, or get knocked out.
Last person standing wins!

I am also trying to get a throw analyzer set up. For anyone who would like to see what their throw arc looks like in a 3d picture. The reach back tempo, hip rotation backward and forward, hand speed, hand angles etc….
How it would work: you will put a Ball golf glove on your throwing hand, I will attach a accelerometer to it. I will provide the driver disc.
You would then do 3 throws (Backhand or Sidearm) into a 4ft by 7ft catch net. Each of the throws can then be reviewed on my smart phone. You could then compare your numbers to next year’s results!
