New twist on Glow League this Tuesday.
You might find out about it at Bag Tag / Points League today?

Fairmont Design
When I play the design layouts, here are a few things I’m looking at:
Flow. Do you have to backtrack or cross other fairways?
Safety. Are players or others in the line of fire, Blind corners, etc.
Difficulty. With one tee, the holes need to be hard enough to challenge those of us that play all the time but not so evil they totally crush the souls of beginners.
Entertainment. I want to have fun playing these holes.
Other than that I wo ...

I think what Rick said about multiple pin placements is really key to everyone being happy with the back 9. We can make one placement very challenging and another placement that isn't as challenging but still fun to shoot at our for more advanced players a good ace run. We can balance the course with different placements...heck even different par scores if we want a couple par 4's.
Dropping a few different pin placements in the front 9 would be something to look into as well. I think some tweaking of the tee pad placements on the front nine should be looked into as well.
while i like the list for the final design i would like these preliminary to be creative and unique. the final choice will likely be combination of the layouts.

Miltonvale Tootletoss will now be a KDGA tour event...which unfortunately means it is no longer free...but will also have larger payouts and more divisions. In order to have more time to complete the tournament and less chaos in the park it has been moved to sat. May 25th. Mark your calendars and hope to see you there!! It will also now be two rounds of 18 holes.
Nice. I'll try to make it!! That date will be probably a week before the LAO.

I had to go back outside and putt some more. It is still 64 degrees on my thermometer!

Jon, Kevin & Josh bring up interesting points. Some of which were discussed at great length at last Monday's design meeting (at the Manhattan Public Library). A sense of agreement was established at that meeting.
Knowing how many options we (our group of dedicated designers, fund raisers, lobbyists, etc.) want to explore, I spoke to my contact with Riley County. I have good news...
I will post that news after I have dinner tonight and take care of a few other things.
Until later,
Rick

I agree, Kevin, that time is short and we should try to schedule as many layout trials as possible.
Realistically, however, not everyone's going to be able to make every trial -- especially if we have a lot of them -- so I think the most important thing is to make sure people are posting good maps of their proposals so that others can get a sense of them even if they have to miss a trial.
Layouts without maps will probably not receive serious consideration when it comes down to ma ...

I have an idea! How about we set up another Fairmount design this Saturday or Sunday? I know we have league scheduled for this Sunday but I have been thinking about how much time we have before the disc golf season starts. VERY LITTLE I don't know what the general consensus on skipping Warner league this Sunday is but we could always play for tags and points at the temporary Fairmount layout. Thoughts? If we didn't want to skip Warner on Sunday we could always attempt to do this ... more
We've got our K-State Doubles league on Saturdays out at Fairmont. If we were to play through the layout, we would probably need baskets for a realistic score. I don't know if everyone would want to haul baskets out there each week. Or we'd just play our 18 on the main side and then whoever wanted to go check out the other holes could do so afterwards.
I think we should try to focus as much attention as we can on coming up with a good layout for Fairmont. We are just trying to maintain a balance between playing and planning. Not everyone is equally interested in being involved with the planning process. We don't want them to lose interest in the league while we are focused on Fairmont.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Fairmont today.
I think we had a great showing and many good ideas were shared.
If you missed it today, there will be more of these "Design Days" in the near future.

Sorry hit post to quickly... anyway I think if a lot of the mess was cleaned up on 1 and 2 then they could be combined for one hole. Then clean the disaster south east of hole 5 and figure out two holes. The only other weakness could be flow as for 3 and 4 and again on 7 and 8 you walk through fairways to get to the tee box (I see that as minor). Can't wait to try the next lay out

As for the design that was used at fairmont today I thought the stengths were hole 2, 7, 3, 4, 6 and 8. I just really enjoyed driving those holes and think we can be creative with having multiple pin placements. The area to south east of hole 5 need to be cleaned up and I would love to see 2 holes in there. I think the waknesses of this lay out is 1 and 2 Could cross into each other.

Basket Roll Call:
I'm bringing my 2 baskets
(Plus, I'll have plenty temp. of tee signs.)
Austin brings up a great point. There is a significant chance of rain overnight Saturday into Sunday. If it holds up and is a rainy afternoon, obviously few will want to set-up baskets. However, to ensure the day is not wasted I will most likely still set-up the large signs showing tee boxes & basket placements...

I think I'm going to Fairmont Sunday afternoon.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
It's looking like 2013 is going to be a big year for DFOK.
Course updates & upgrades, more leagues than ever, plus more club activities.
Get ready!
As announced at Warner today, Tuesday night Glow League will be a little different this week. We will be playing Fairmont backwards basket to basket. Looks like it might not be real cold either.
