Rick Petrie, thanks for putting together the DFOK meeting at the Manhattan Public Library tonight!

If anyone would like to help build Disc Golf courses and plan events, please keep an eye on this site for future meetings.

Anybody interested in helping install the final two pin placements at Fairmont Park tomorrow morning?
It would be nice to finish up that part of the Fairmont Park couree expansion project.

It's going easy work, plus it is supposed to be nice and cool out, so it should take long at all.

How about starting around 10am? That should get us done by lunch time.

It went well. We installed #13 short & #16 long ground sleeves, thus we're finally done with that part of the project.

Rick Petrie   September 22, 2013 at 10:02am

While we were in the concrete mixing mood, we also repacked the dirt around the Practice Basket, then added a 60 pound "collar" of concrete around the top of the base to stabilize it for the

It's shaping up to be fun & busy fall season of disc golf activities in the Manhattan area.
Something for everyone...

I'm loving it!

I noticed that Manhattan KS is one of the latest additions on the ACE Race site: http://discgolfacerace.com/index.html Thanks RevKev!

If you would like to help set up the modified Fairmont ACE Race course and / or have a portable basket that could be used, send me a message through this website with your email address. Start thinking of some good holes we could set up!

any idea what hole? heading there now.

Rick Petrie   September 19, 2013 at 9:07pm

Played Fairmont 1 thru 10 tonight. Did not see any phone. I'm out there a lot & will keep my eyes open for it.

Anyone want to play a round around 5:30 pm? The only catch is I need a ride to and from home...Anyone?

Hey does anyone around here plan on playing in the Mighty Shunga Tournament in Topeka on September 21-22?

BTW, be careful about carpooling on the day you play Shunga & Crestview. The temp. Shunga course is far enough away from Crestview that you have to drive to it, then swap after the lunch break... It could be a problem if you're not playing the same course at the same time.

Mark Kewley   September 12, 2013 at 8:34pm

And don't carpool to the tournament with Rick unless he brings a sack lunch.

Rick Petrie   September 12, 2013 at 9:10pm

LOL. Ya there's not a lot of places to grab a [quick] lunch on the east side of Lake Shawnee. (Ooops last year)

Rick Petrie    September 12, 2013 at 6:42am

I have a Fairmont Park on Disc Golf Scene question.

In my opinion, the way discgolfscene.com shows a course with alternate pin placements is kind of "messed up". More specifically, when it comes to displaying fairway lengths... if you take a look, it only lets you enter one fairway length per fairway, even if you rotate baskets around from time to time.

The only way around this is to have a course layout to choose from for every possible combination. Yikes!

With that in mind, ... more

In my opinion, i'd prefer to remove all the distances from score card if it's confusing. Simple is better.

Rick Petrie   September 12, 2013 at 7:30am

Daisuke, I like that idea. We will eventually have the tee box sign artwork posted, which will show all the fairway distances. Not ideal, but like we said that's not exactly the focus of this site anyway.

Jon Tveite   September 17, 2013 at 11:00am

Yeah, I agree with Daisuke. We should just post a picture of the various position distances and not try to cram that information into the website's format.

Robert Adams    September 11, 2013 at 6:40pm

Hey everyone, saw something over here that I thought I'd share. So I'm coming back in from a mission and I'm on short final returning to base. I'm looking around to clear the aircraft of obstacles, and off to the left, something catches my eye...something unmistakable for people such as us. I'd recognize that shape anywhere...Lo and behold, there's a home made basket sitting on the taxiway on a crappy little base in the middle of Afghanistan, haha. So after we shut ... more

Hi Rob, must be Disc Fanatics of Afghanistan

Rick Petrie   September 11, 2013 at 10:04pm

Cool. You could host a Disc Fanatics of Afghanistan event. If that were actually important over there. Godspeed.

Rick Petrie   September 11, 2013 at 10:14pm

Kewley, Did you hack into my computer and watch my key strokes or something?

Mark Kewley    September 11, 2013 at 6:46am

Discraft ACE Race

Earlier in the year there was a scheduled event in the Manhattan area (Tuttle Creek, River Pond). Now that event is not on the Discraft site and nothing has been posted about the event. If there is enough interest in a local ACE Race we could still put this together. RevKev and LCM are on board again if people want to do this. We are almost out of time though. It is looking like either the 19th or 20th of October. This would allow the time for registration and shippin ... more

why?

Rick Petrie    September 7, 2013 at 6:03pm

Anybody interested in a quick workday at Fairmont tomorrow (Sunday)?

We need to do a little brush clean-up along the edges of short pin placements for #2 & #6, then move the pile of logs off #5 to edge the fairways of #2 & #6.

It should go quick. I'm guessing 2 hours tops.

Sorry -- I got distracted by non-disc-golf life stuff. I guess 11 is not happening, since it's almost 1 now. Anyone still want to haul logs today?

Mark Kewley   September 8, 2013 at 2:35pm

I went to the park earlier and got a couple hours of work in.

Mark Kewley   September 8, 2013 at 2:38pm

I need to get some things done this afternoon around the house. Like Jon, I have ideas about what needed done so those logs might still be there.

Mark Kewley    September 6, 2013 at 5:22am

I just scheduled a round for 5:30 at Fairmont tomorrow night. There are a few holes that I would like to try with a tee pad.

Rick Petrie   September 6, 2013 at 12:15am

Cool. I might have to attend... I did use #4 for the first time tonight. It was my 2nd best drive ever from up there and it happened in my work clothes & my first throw of the day.

Rick Petrie   September 6, 2013 at 6:01pm

I'll be there ASAP. My apologies if I'm a couple minutes late.

Kevin Clouse    September 5, 2013 at 6:46pm

So what's the status on Fairmont tee pads? I haven't been out there in about 3 or 4 days....are all the tee pads poured and are they playable?

Yeah I was out there this morning and they were back filling the rest. I only got to play on the last 4 though

Rick Petrie   September 6, 2013 at 12:13am

Also of note, the Riley County Parks staff also plans to seed & mulch (with straw) the disturbed soil. Hopefully mother nature cooperates for that process...

Michel Buchheister   September 6, 2013 at 12:28pm

they should spray for bugs....

Rick Petrie    September 4, 2013 at 7:59am

The more courses I play (now approaching 60 in 6 states) and the more courses I help design/build/maintain, the more difficult it is for me to rate courses. IMO, people should not rate all of them against each other. After all, none of them have the same geographic or political restrictions holding them back, nor are all courses blessed by the same geographic or budgetary potential fueling their up-side.

Meanwhile, I realize it's nice to have some sort of baseline or point of reference w ... more

why do other peoples opinions bother you? I have read bad reviews on multiple courses however it does not keep me from trying them out and giving my own opinion. Peoples opinions are their own it just gives people an idea of how others think of it.

Rick Petrie   September 5, 2013 at 11:56pm

It's my opinion that other peoples opinions do not bother me... (ha) as long as they have all the facts (oh). I was just rambling on about how in some ways not all courses should be compared against each other on one big scale.

Rick Petrie    August 30, 2013 at 6:04pm

As the tee pad construction continues at Fairmont Park, please keep the following in mind.

The burlap blankets are on the concrete to help slow down the drying process in this extreme heat. The slower the concrete dries/cures, the stronger and longer lasting tee pads we will have.

Please do not remove any of the these blankets in order to use a tee pad. Also, if you see a fellow player removing a blanket, feel free to tell them them to change their ways... and the pads will be playable ver ... more
