This leads me to think we need to have a collective discussion about States this year. While I am not personally opposed to it being elsewhere, it was on the peninsula last year and I know that some would like to see it return to Anchorage this season.

However, Boyd, if you want it in Anchorage then that’s absolutely an option as well! By no means do I have to run States at Nikiski, it’s just something Pat and I discussed. Where did you want to hold it Boyd?

I’ll be where ever states is held. I just find it kinda stupid when anchorage folks say they won’t come for a three day down here. But I’ll support it not matter where it is. I will throw added cash in no matter where it is and help make players packs great. So who ever holds it I’ll do what I can to make it worth a drive.

Personally I would LOVE to see States held at Nikiski, as it's one of my favorite courses in the state. I would be remiss as an ADGA representative though if I didn't try to ensure that other voices are heard.

I like the two day layout at nikiski due to what the course has to offer. I think getting three, or four, rounds in would be perfect for people outside of kenai. The more time playing the better!

18/36 concrete tee pads, 18 similar baskets, multiple pin locations. I vote for one of the few courses in Alaska that have these options to offer for our state championships.

Since States is ALWAYS the weekend after KotH its super tough for people to make two 3 day tournaments happen back to back. I would love to see these two awesome tournaments not be directly next to each other. And yes I understand its done in hopes out of state people will stick around for both.

So I looked up how many out of state players played both KotH and States. 2016 (1 open player) 2017 (2 open players) 2018 (1 open player) zero amateurs for all 3 years. I would suggest that if you wanted to piggie back a tournament after KotH have something out at PC/Davis and call it something else like the Treebash Open. Much easier prep/maintenance wise than say Kincaid. I feel that states should be held later in the season as a stand alone event, it would give us time to get whatever course the attention it deserves.

Chad, the quantity of players staying the extra week is something I focus on less than the quality. The goal is to get those big name traveling pros to stay longer so they can see more of the state and recommend us to other pros. I don’t look at putting them back to back as a way to get more people to stay, I look at it as an opportunity for those pros to be able to make more out of their trip and have a more full experience. Also, Nikiski would not need that full extra month as it’s mowed weekly by the Recreation Center staff and they would make any changes we need for States, since they aren’t involved with KOTH it would be a non-issue. HOWEVER, with all that said, us TD’s in the state are listening to the players and want to provide the best experience for you guys with your opinions. So this year we will be running the “Alaska Open” a 2 day B-Tier the week after KOTH, and States will be in August. More details are going to be discussed with Adam at the ADGA meeting on the 4th. So make sure you go to that and give as much input as you can!

Gives us something to look forward to instead of having the events competing against each other, that all.

Yep, those reasons are why States are in August this year and the Alaska Open will follow King of the Hill! Should be the best of both worlds for everyone, with another large title B tier the week after King of the Hill yet States being in August allowing for some seperation. I'm all for this solution myself. I think it accommodates the desire to show off Alaska to the traveling pros with another quality event, while giving the locals some separation between two of the biggest events of the season. You're the man Brady : )

Howdy Joseph, great question! It is NOT recommended to use ice melt on the teepads due to wildlife concerns, pitting of the concrete and vegetation surrounding the pads that helps with erosion control.

I would agree with Chad on using it at Kincaid, we use it periodically at Westchester, PC, and Davis Park, but Kincaid isn't considered one of our "winter" courses. The proximity of the course to the groomed trails and our agreement with Kincaid not to use the course officially in the winter suggest that we probably should avoid its use there. We just moved pin locations at Davis yesterday, go give it another try. Don't be surprised to see 3 and 6 lose some more trees next spring, the course is still a work in progress. : )

We have an agreement with the Nordic club that we do not have any organized events at Kincaid on the winter time. With weather being as warm as it has been out is easy to consider playing Kincaid
