So, beat my only other score from these tees by one. Started off well enough, except botching 4 pretty badly. Five putted 14 (a few rollaways down the hill). and 16 was a TRIPLE-CIRCLE SNOWMAN. Lost one of the three I threw in the drink on 16. So, three blowup holes, and one fairly lousy 18, adds up to a high score.

Wingfoot Lake State Park, Front 9 short, front 9 long, 18 holes
Fun round, finally winning after being second the previous few tries. New tees are nice though I wish some short pads were longer (esp. 7 & 9), though when the ground is evened out around the pads they should play better. Nice work to those that made the concrete possible. And I enjoyed the longs, though I lost a glow Wingfoot Leopard on long 7. Long 8 I imagine is really sweet looking in the daytime.

No mulligans allowed for me this round per agreement, so effectively straight singles. Almost pulled off the craziest deuce ever (griplocked straight at the tennis court, but somehow skipped on several pine branches and kicked through into the fairway about 50 ft short of basket, then crashed out of the chains from there. I have NO IDEA how that drive really ended up where it did. It must have been the disc from the grassy knoll). Then nailed about a 60 ft deuce on 15 blind around a tree. Lots of rain, yet it didn't chase the skeeters away. Good times nonetheless.

Portage Lakes DGC, Long tees, 18 holes
First time playing long tees here. My drives had good life to them, but always found a tree. This HAS to be the worst raw score for 18 holes for me, anywhere, anytime. Only perhaps three holes gave me any chance at a deuce (by my recollection, 2, 8, and 17, but only 2 was inside 40 feet for my try). Absolutely brutal.

Partnered with Mitch G. -8 after 13, we were looking sweet (a record -9 won), but missed opportunities caught up to us. Missed very makeable gains on 4, 5, 12 (both deuce attempts hit chains), 15, 16 (missed par save), and 17. Great round, all the same. Parked several drives between us, and I nailed about a 45-footer from my knee, leaning way around a large tree. Good times.

Played solo. Very windy, which clearly added 5+ shots to my score. Pins in longer placements. Caught up with the Jenkins et al at one point and replayed shorts 3-11 (2, 3, (7), 4, 2, 2, 3, 2, 3) at 1-up with a healthy dose of birdies. Finally some warm weather. Saw lots of old DG friends on this fine day. First time ever playing full 18. Need to play longs next time.

Great Blue Heron, Regular tees, 24 holes
Played pro tees on a few holes, including 4 and 14 (which really makes that one a par 4). Driving was very good today, and many birdie failures were due to blowbys on the drives. Putting inconsistent, but much of that was due to pretty strong winds. I played here in November and shot much, much worse, so I was very happy with this round.

Tournament Frozen Finger Fairway Charity Tour - #2 - Medina
Started hole 10 again. Meltdown with a +7 on final 5 holes which cost me dearly, dropping from a likely 2nd to a 3-way tie for 3rd, and ultimately 5th after a tiebreak playoff. Even though wind died down a little as this round went on, my good putting in round 1 abandoned me to a major degree of damage: missed birdie putts on 10,11,12,18, and 2, and other putts on 14,16,16(again),7, and 8. It's a good thing this sport's so fun, as well as the competitor's and their sportsmanship.

Started on 10. Crazy windy...mostly affected for me hole 3, where a gentle turnover suddenly turned into a high-speed long rollout down to the creek side of 2nd tee. My putting and course management were very good. Missed birdie putts on 17 and 18, and par putts on 10 and 13.

Memorial Park, Regular tees 2x, 18 holes
First time thru played long 2, second time thru played longs on 1, 2 and 5. Played with Joe Schmid. Counted official OBs (on or over any road or walking path). First time playing new tee for hole 6, which I moved last month to take a memorial tree out of harm's way, and to move it away from the putting area for hole 5. It is amazing how when the hole doesn't look like a dogleg, it plays so much narrower. The combination of walking path and lake OB really puts a high degree of risk to drive at the very driveable basket. I ended up personally laying up 80 feet short both times thru on 6, which left a still very scary run at the basket. I felt like i had messed up both approaches upon releasing the upshot, only to end up by luck with gimme putts both times.

Had 5 or so pretty good throws that just happened to get a Massillon how-de-do-there, and missed putts on 1,2,5,10, and 12, yet still made par for the round. On a do-over, I might've realistically shot 5-7 under. Good prep for the Turkey Bowl!

Went to Stark Doubles but nobody showed but John P and Rod F. Played singles with them for cash. Was nearly sinking some amazing shots, and making some very good ones anyway. Putter was very good all day. Beautiful day, in fact...why they abandoned doubles on this day is a mystery to me. Props to Rod for using his raft to fetch my wayward Boss on 20, the hole which ended my run at catching John for the cash. First time here in a couple of years, and I love the new pin positions. Ace run on 12 didn't miss by much. A 100+-foot birdie attempt on 24 hit chains dead center but didn't stick in the basket. a 65-foot birdie anhyzer attempt on 13 hit the nubs as well. Worst drive ever on 9 (15 ft into the bush right in front of the tee).

I guess I needed those three early birds to offset later failures. I had a good drive on 7, then tried what I thought was a safer long putt from around trees instead of the high hyzer drop shot that really seemed appealing. I ended up with a 4. For fun, I tried that shot I declined right after my official shot, and sank it for what would've been a birdie. Oh, well. Otherwise, my putting was pretty good, nearly making a few tough shots, while sinking some others that weren't gimmes.

Took my 2 young daughters and a young nephew out with me. Foolishly lost my glow Roc in the lake. Fished for it with a GR for a half hour, and found an unmarked Valkyrie in the drink, but not my own. The youngsters were a distraction. They're lucky they're so cute. ;-)

Lincoln Park (Oak Ledges), Regular tees, 18 holes
Stretch of 10 holes where I had 7 birdies. Until the last 2 holes, on pace to be probably my best singles round - EVER - in 20+ years of playing. Missed very makeable putts on 3, 5, 16, and 18 (in fact, all of those putts hit chains). Suddenly remembered the hacker I was on 17. Other than that, pretty much everything I tried worked. Lots of fun. Cold but sunny and pleasant. The group of 8 of us playing was incredible fun to hang out with for the afternoon, and not just because of my game.

One of the few redeeming moments of the round was the very beginning, where I finally birdied hole 1 for the first time (drive to 8 feet). I put hole 8 (the only other one I have yet to birdie) drive to 12 feet (behind a bush), and missed the short sidearm putt. The 5 on 5B was only that because of a 50-foot putt. Missed a bunch of other putts, though.

Roscoe Ewing Park, Short tees, 18 holes
Played with Nick Schultz. Putter failed miserably on front nine. Shoulda had par on 1, then bogey on 1, near bird on 2 and 3, inexcusable miss of bird on 4, near bird again on 9. Then, I found it! Still, turned near bird into bogey on 15 courtesy of the basketside creek. Six birds on back nine, though?! Sweet! Finished with a 25-foot bird on 17 and a 45-foot bird on 18. I refused to throw another disc after that kind of finish. Baskets were in short pin positions in almost all cases, except perhaps 3, 5, and 17.

Played solo. OB on six was road, not water (turnover shot over lake started too far right and carried barely to road pin high, missed putt). Bogeyed 2 safari holes, and missed makeable putts on 3 & 4. Made a 60-footer for the deuce on 5. Hole 1 killed me, was fortunate to "limit the damage" to double bogey.

Memorial Park, Regular tees 2x, 18 holes
Played with Schmid brothers...one last round in before weather gets crummy. Still have never birdied 1 or 8, but came closer than ever on both. My worst week of putting in memory started fading on the second nine. Almost birdied 7 twice...perhaps the toughest hole on the course. A very ugly par on 6 second time thru...almost put in water very short, then almost put in water again but carried barely over lake on another early release, then made 25-footer to save par. Played the "safari 12" layout first time thru, bogeying 10 (from walkway coming from 9 even with the grill by the shelter over the lake to 6), par on 11 (from walkway behind 6 to basket 4), and par on 12 (from halfway up the woods trail back to basket 1)...we'll need to add that layout to DGScene in lieu of course changes/improvements...

Great Blue Heron, 22 Holes - Hole 21 Short, 22 holes
Played with old disc golfing buddy Bill Vaughn, without whom I would have been lost finding my way around the back half. Putting was horrible...only one bird all day but should have had five or six. It was a good experience nonetheless. Played the one safari hole back to another basket (works out to be hole 20, if I remember right). had a double bogey and triple bogey mixed in, so given bad putting I didn't play the course bad "from tee to green" for the most part.

Customary meltdown on hole 10 sets the pace for the back nine again...third time in a row. First time played here. Putting was horrible except for a sweet 40-footer on 6. Birdie opportunities are VERY scarce on the front nine, but many present themselves as possibilities on the back, providing you can thread the needle...evidently, I could not, but really it was more the matter of it being my first time here and having atrocious putting...several 3-putts...ack!
