Each hole is worth a point . . . if you beat your opponent on a hole you get a point (which is called 1 UP) . . .if you push the first hole you are considered ALL SQUARE. The goal is to beat your opponent on as many holes as possible . . . and if you are ahead by more holes than are left on the round of 18 . . . you win the match. Bottom line is overall score does not matter in this format . .. only each individual hole score matters. Please call me if you do not understand these rules or how match play is scored.

One difference between Match Play and "Stroke" Play as it is called in golf is that you can give putts and concede holes . . . if your opponent has thrown their drive under the basket and you are throwing your third shot from the shule. . . you can concede the hole and forget about the misery . . . because your opponent is likely to make their 2' putt for a 2 . . .there is more strategy in deciding when to concede a hole and when it is worth saving your own frustration . . . please embrace the idea of a putt that is conceded to end the hole before completion . . . it is truly a big part of Match Play.
