Thanks for the reply John. I saw this message briefly posted. I supposed the OP could have been posting by error on this Sunnybrook, but the details seemed to indicate he was discussing the MI course. "Good luck trying to get a practice round in...EVER! i called this morning to see what time i would be able to go out and play a few holes later and supposedly the NEW time disc golfers can use the course isnt 5-6 its not until 730-8 mon-sun!!! Per randy's request says al at the pro shop..Youll never be able to play here at all in the summer unless you want to play some glow at the end...of course theyre never going to generate disc golfers to provide revenue when we cant ever play it" The post was quickly deleted. You would probably be the best person to determine if it was an error, or if the OP was incorrect. Any light you can shed would be great, thanks man.
Thanks for reposting my post, yes i deleted it because i was going to post it on the tourny talk section then decided to take it up with john to figure it out rather than leave my ****in up for others to **** about and cause further confusion about when we can or cant play thanks for voiding that
I have just been hearing conflicting information about who to talk to when you call to check on teetimes, course availability about when we can or cant play, ive been told 6-630 by multiple people but alas when i call to confirm as stated we should do before goin up there i am told something completely different by the proshop

Well, there are many points to address here: #1: The message I believe you are referring to was by Jay B (OP = Original Poster). I am not sure what happened to it. I did speak with both Randy and Al today about the possible Spring / Summer start times for disc golfers. Be clear here: the 6 / 6:30 pm start time is for Open Golf, both traditional ball and disc golf. We can all get on the course at that time providing there are openings. To be sure, ALWAYS call ahead for tee times. I have been golfing my entire life and learned a long time ago that if you simply show up at a ball golf course, you may not get on due to overcapacity. For clarity: Open golfers means ball or disc golfers not playing in a league. It does not mean Pro Disc Golfers. Unlike a disc golf course, this is a ball golf course and if there are open golfers teeing off on hole 1, open disc golfers cannot simply walk out to hole 2 or hole 6 to jump ahead of the ball golfers. All disc golfers MUST go into the clubhouse and pay to play then start on hole 1 when their tee time is on the clock. We have to follow ball golf etiquette at this establishment. When we proposed the course to Randy, we never intended to take over his core business of ball golf. This is a successful ball golf course. Last time I looked, there are only a few disc golf courses that can self-sustain financially. Disc golfers cannot afford the upkeep of a ball golf course. We as disc golfers get what we get and until we can collectively pay for it, that is the way it is. I honestly am not trying to be rude but some disc golfers can't even afford the rental cost of a cart yet they want the owner to shut his core business down so we can play for a few bucks. That ideology makes for a poor and unsuccessful business model. Now, to address the concerns about why there may be some confusion on the possible start time for open play. Some ball golfers have been hindered by disc golfers. This is not the ideal situation we wanted so I needed to understand the issue. The issue is a bottleneck at the Orange Hole 1 leaving the clubhouse and the disc golfers playing hole 9. The optimum shot for disc golfers is to play a right handed hyzer bomb. This puts them in the fairway of Orange course hole 1. The ball golfers play straight down fairway 9 and do not u201con purposeu201d hit into hole 1 Orangeu2019s fairway so it isnu2019t an issue. The disc golfers are not doing anything wrong. They are not. The fact is I did not do a good job recognizing this when I laid out the course. I proposed to Randy today that we move basket #9 to the other side of the fairway taking this situation right out of play. This lessens the course in my opinion. I believe we can do two things here to make this situation go away. For everyday play (after 6 pm and on the weekends) we can use the new pin placement on the other side of the fairway. For tournament use, we can move the basket back to where we have it now. All involved in the making of the course knew we would encounter a few growing pains along the way. I had no benchmark to go by so I am learning on the fly. So far we have had minimal issues. The u201cthis isnu2019t fair to disc golfersu201d mindset belongs to all of the disc golfers who feel that just because there is a disc golf course there that they have the right to use it anytime that fits their schedule. They need to follow all of the rules the ball golfers have to follow. The course design flaw was my fault and I will try to fix it as best as I can.

Jay, sorry no intentional sabotage. I have Sunnybrook set to follow and your post drove to my email, prompting the query. I had intentions of getting a couple foursomes out to play in the near future and was concerned that changes would make that impossible. John, thank you for the continued work on this project. Having played there, the challenges are apparent, but I am sure they can be worked out. i had always assumed and hoped the disc golfers would be operated as if we were ball golfers. Tee times, maintaining pace of play, courtesy to ball golfers as the standard ettiquette would indicate. thanks for the response again, I look forward getting out to play the course again as an ambassador of our game. My hope is to make disc golf a positive experience here. Cheers guys.
Not to beat a dead horse Steve but the ball golfers had a very good point about the disc golfers being in their way. They were absolutely correct. The disc golfers were also doing nothing wrong but playing the course the way we designed it. I think if they would have known, from my history, disc golfers are well versed in golf course etiquette as well. A better design will make this bottleneck a mute point. It will lessen the quality of the everyday course but having the ability to adjust it for a tournament definitely helps.

I think the challenges of this pretty unique setup will continue to force changes to the disc golf portion. When we played, things went pretty smooth, there were a lot of ball golfers, but not packed. The other couple ball/disc courses I have played, followed the ball course fairway much more closely with baskets set off right/left just short of greens. I like the set up at Sunnybrook with the non fairway space made use of. The one thing that seemed as if it could cause issues was when disc tees were set substantially away from the ball tees. I think this could create confusion at times. I envision a setup where, with continued educaton of ball golfers and patience of disc golfers, the two would be viewed and treated the same on the course. I don't think tweaks to the setup with have a huge impact on the quality of play on this course. I hope you are recieving this as intended positive, constructive feedback. I think it is a great and worthwhile undertaking, but I believe the disc golfers will ultimately have to make all the compromises. It is my hope that disc golfer make an exaggerated effort to play the role of ambassadors for our sport to both ownership and ball golfers while playing a round here. Sorry again Jay, the original post got out to me, and I had no way of knowing you are the one who has deleted it. I would love to get out and play a round with either of you. I live down in Dearborn, so it is not frequently that I get a chance to play Sunnybrook. I will give a shout out here a few days in advance, maybe we can have a couple, get in a round and enjoy this soon to be masterpiece.
I'm heading out today (wednesday) to do some fishing. If you wanna post to my wall, here, or send me a text about a lost disc, AND WHERE, go ahead and get at me. And The course is great, I think we as DGs just have to be a little brother for a bit. I don't like the idea, bc I love my sport ...

And The course is great, I think we as DGs just have to be a little brother for a bit. I don't like the idea, bc I love my sport, but until the BGs understand that we really just play the same way (and after seeing some of them out there, I can easily throw a disc farther anyway lol) we can get along just fine. It all comes down to integration, not assimilation. That is the key.And it's happening, just takes time. John you know how I feel about the new hole #9, but I'm there to play, all the holes could be 100' and I'll still have a blast out there. Keep up the solid work
there are multiple Sunnybrook pages. u may need to look qt the other one...
