Tom, I can see both sides. The only way to deal with unhappy customers is to prevent the problem before it happens. Advertise your tournament for what it really is and people wont be pissed off when they find out differently. AJ has the right to be pissed here and you need to be honest with people or you'll lose your customers quick and die faster than ever.
