22 holes with OT

Of note the past 3 rounds were not a full 24 round but there is not a 22 hole option to enter. Holes 6-7 have been skipped each time. April 22 ended in a tie at 11 under and Bear won CTP for MarcBear to seal the victory over D-Brad. Woody lugged the bevs a few more holes then most to pull up the rear. Also of note a few morels were plucked after bacon candy and Brad went home with a few bucks for a DOT.

Mitten March - Freezing wind with abrasive

Brad, Carls and Bear held down the Mitten end of the tale of two peninsulas. Things were pretty tight for the first 7 holes, with team Bear leading at -3, Carls -2 and Brad -1. Carls fared well with pars on separator holes 4 and 5, Brad and Bear not so much. Windy conditions forced a delay for the #5 safety meeting. Brad unleashed a tarantula which led to a Bear birdie on 6, followed by a bogey on 7 to kick off a carry streak through the sanctuary. Brad got a $2 dot on 12 and validated to tie fo ... more

The birdie drought on hole 4 ended. Forehand Wasp from the base of the stairs sailed home from Marc and led to a 7 down thru 8 start. Eventually finishing with the -11 win. Woody decided baskets he should walk off the course with a highlight and blasted cage on 14 for a DOT.. Next week's ninja crew ill be separated into 2 pennisula's.. Winners carry beer

Shorts were worn for the first time this year by Bear and the mosquitoes gave him a 5 star rating.. Would recommend eating again! The scores stayed tight all night with a spitout from the worlds worst baskets knocking Hollywood Marc down to carry duties for the last 7 holes. But on that final hole Marc parked his drive and team D-Wood birdied to force sudden death overtime with team Rhyno Cruise and forced carry-out /carry-in for the night. Forehanders vs the backhanders.. and the CTP went to the backhanders! So they won the war but lost the fight to bear bevs.

The snow in the woods was over the boot but open areas required more effort in the heavy and deep stuff. Zero clue where a tee pad begin/ended for the round. There were four ninjas that ventured out and they may lay claim to the ninja record for hottest jerky tested with some Habanero beef out of Gary's meats in Lowell. We had a full ninja roster for the post time change round. The early lead held by team D-Bear seemed like the coffin nails were being hammered down. On 7s tee pad T-Carls was in last place then Brad Wood 2nd and D-Bear holding command. Birdies in the sanctuary somehow left the ninjas in a 3 way tie with just 2 holes remaining. Oct 16 sudden death

Once again with a full roster, the final hole pushed two pair of ninja's to sudden death. But resulted in a tie between WoodCarls and D-Brad. There were 19 holes played with 23 replacing 18 and a new safari hole par 4. This soccer tying nonsense has left a bad taste in several ninja's mouths. Bears carry.

There was a full ninja roster witnessing a showdown thru the sanctuary. Team Marc- Bear birdied 9, 10, 11, 12, 13... but couldn't make the putt on 14 to end with -10. Team D Wood was matching bird for bird but made their final putt to force overtime.. Sadly both teams par'd to end in a tie. Bear had a ground skip to pole hit dot also.

Hole 11 ace

With 4 holes remaining the scores were tight with a pair of -6's and a -5.. Woody played Coldbrook for over 15 yrs to get his first ace and it only took 2 months to get his next. Backhand Woody with a center post no doubter to take the lead. A birdie on 12 and 13 gave team WoodMarc enough cushion to par to the win. Full ninja attendance =$25 payout on the ace.

No carry 24 holer

Team Brad/Marc completed a no carry despite having a bogey on hole 24 for the July 10th round. The 15 birdies helped keep the cooler at bay for the whole round. The duo attributed some of the good karma to their snacks. Jalapeño bacon crackers and brownie chocolate crunchy dessert.

Hole 15 ace!

Woody finally popped his Coldbrook ace cherry on his first throw of the night. Forehand shot went inside the desired line but his immediate "Get Lucky" yell guided the disc into 15's basket. He and his partner Bear were -5 thru the first 4 holes.. and several ties and lead changes resulted in D-Marc scratching out a victory by 1 at the end. -12 to -11.

May 22

Bear had a drive land within 15 ft of hole 5's basket for one of the closest drives in ninja history there.. And finished the putt for the rare birdie. His partner Woody also made the highlight reel with an aggressively hard chain/post hit on 14 which flopped out and left the inner ring of chains bound up due to force. DOT $ paid. There was not an option for 22 holes played on the 22nd.. but a whiskey skip occurred to bypass holes 6 and 7.

There is a fair chance history was made with all 3 teams deucing 6 straight holes. Starting at hole 7 and thru 12 the deuce was loose. HollywoodCarls botched the 7th hole but D-rad continued for 8 straight and the no carry win. BearWood got 7 in a row to edge out 2nd place. 2023's first round came down to a 3 way tie at 8 under with 1 hole to play. HollyWood's birdie effort came up short so sudden death fell to team Marc/Brad and D-Bear. Early tree hits sent D-Bear into scramble mode and they finished with a bogey for a Marc/Brad par for the win finish.

Highlights from the Oct 10th round include solo deuce on hole 4 from Woody. Forehand approach shot said in from the stair area to give bevs back to team T-Carls. T-Carls also bagged a handful of circle two putts to try to keep things close. There were at least 3 other forehand putts cashed as D-Wood looked to set a ninja record, but sadly their putters failed them on 11 and 12 with less then 20 footers missed to finish with -12 on 18 holes.

Travis had a skip chain-out on hole 3 so dollars were paid to him. Bear had a fall off the edge of tee 18, but it was close enough to birdie. Payouts were promptly sent on PayPal. The inability for team MarcBearpig to birdie in the sanctuary and HollyWood's bogey on 13 allowed team D&T$ to birdie the final hole and sneak into a 3 way tie (-8) for sudden death worst shot tie breaker. Darin's putter remained hot and they took the lead for the first time all round on the 19th hole to win. Hollywood remains cooler carrier next week.

Emergency!

Plans for the five ninjas took a rather disapointing turn when safety ninja Bear ran a houseguest to the ER rather than showing up for Monday disc. At first it appeared only the four would close out the round, but things fell into place and the missing member arrived out-of-breath but in time for the farthest-from-barn hole #4 meeting. While events prior to that are unclear (at least to this author), the scores at that time were DCar -1, and TWood +1. Despite a generous courtesy carry by ninj ... more

Pardon The Interuption

An asterisk can be added to this round as Darin did not complete all 18 holes. The obligations of being employed by an IT juggernaut pulled him away from his ninja duties. His absence obviously left the other ninjas shaken as poor drives took a toll on team bearwood, and putting was abysmal for TCar. Darin sank a 130ft forehand field ace birdie save on 12 for a highlight to our first round after daylight savings.

White Heaven

Two Ninja's braved the colossal snow Monday night. The walk to the 1st tee was filled with knee high/waist high drifts while being short of breath and cursing. As the Ninja's entered the course, drifts were overtaking the bench as no other foot prints could be found. After having to shovel the 1st tee pad a star deuce followed by more shoveling of the 2nd tee pad. As the ninja’s approach the 3rd tee, the tee pad was mysteriously shoveled, followed by the next and ne ... more

All thru the woods, not a creature was at ease,
Because it was windy and raining and only 35 degrees.
Tonight was a full crew filled with holiday cheer,
Yes, 6 tiny ninjas and one carrying beer.
The discs were all lit like ole Rudolph's red nose,
They were slick and muddy and altered our throws.
A few chains were rung in the dim winters light,
We threw back some whiskey to help conquer the night.

Is that basket regulation size or what?

You little son of a bitch disc! Why you don't you just go HOME? That's your HOME! Are you too good for your HOME? ANSWER ME! SUCK MY WHITE ASS, DISC!

Putting woes dominated the Wednesday night round. With the amount of missed putts inside 20 feet, one would have thought they changed the size of the baskets. All Ninja’s were affected by the putting woes, mostly blaming the wind, cold, discs and just shitting putting. Luckily putters cannot be broken over ones knee.

Whiskey keeper sendoff

The winds were in constant flux between 22 and 33 mph last night and a few holes tested the ninja's ability to just stand still, let alone make precise disc shots. Teeing off with a sleet like rain that dissipated after 5 holes but not before they dashed team Bearwoods hope for a good score with a double bogey on hole 24. The 30 degree temps and high winds threw a few blemishes on the D-Perv round as well before the teams entered the wind sheltered bird sanctuary. Team T$Car escaped the op ... more

Snowpocalypse

A few Ninja's were up to the task of the 1st winter round of the year. With wind gusts up to 30 mph and real feel temperature around zero for most of the round, birdies were scare. Ninja Bear was the proud Ninja not to birdie but somehow managed to not carry the beer until hole 13 (16 holes played). Ninja Woody carried the beer most of the time but managed to birdie 1 hole along the way. Ninja Darin was too hot for the snow with at least 7 birdies, steam could be seen rising from his right hand for most of the round.

Worst shot OT hole determines winner again

Team Twood went on a birdie binge to close the round out and tied the game with MarcBearpig with 1 hole to play at -8. The long putts were working and Marc hit a big one to force sudden death overtime as Twood cleaned up their park job. Team KzooDaveD bowed out just 1 stroke out of the playoff. Some tree trouble from Twood led to a bogey but for good measure Bear canned a big birdie bend around a tree shot for the win. Last evening round before daylight savings was hot scores with hot temps.

Fierce Finish

Pervis and D managed a -12 despite having a bogey. After a whiskey skip of 6 and 7, they birdied 8-15 for 8 consecutive deuce juicings. Pulling away from the rest of the pack Pervis claimed to also have a no spray no bite going which could not be confirmed.

Nervous?

Team Wood-D started the round with an unheard of bogey on the first hole. This quickly turned into last place behind team Tarter and a 5 stroke deficit to team Marvis, who was leading the pack. All of a sudden Wood of team Wood-D couldn't miss a putt. Great par saves started turning into great deuces and team Marvis' lead started to dwindle. With one hole to play team Wood-D found themselves down by one stroke. 2 horrible drives later and Marvis parking one about 15ft from the pin, it ... more

Another 22 hole night

Hole 4 got birdied last night with a long roller drive from Darin and a big uphill putt from myself. It should be noted there was a whiskey skip of holes 6&7 last night and the mosquitoes are becoming impervious to all forms of bug spray.

Whiskey skip*

*The league settings don't allow us to list there were only 22 holes played Jun 30th instead of 24. Holes 6 &7 were not played. Highlights of the night included a rare deuce on hole 22 from team M-Car. Also a long 70-80 ft putt canned by Carter on 13 which kept the 6 hole birdie train to finish the round going.

Carry free

Bear and Marc never picked up the beer last night in the muggy mid 70's temps. One morel and 10 birdies were obtained instead. Marc has toted the beer 1 time in the past 3 weeks. Hole 12 got a little tougher with the basket moving nearly 40 ft left. With the sun setting approx 9:00, if the ninja's get a smooth start, next week may end up being a 24 hole round.

Proposed rule changes

After a hard fought match that stayed in a tie after 1 playoff hole, the idea was brought up of worst shot format for the playoff hole might reduce the number of ties.

Also, after I plugged another disc into the grass island in the parking lot on hole 2, and successfully left it there, as has been done before, someone mentioned maybe that island should be in bounds and playable in our WNDGC rounds. Odds are you don't want to play from there, but if you were in a pinch and lucky/unlucky e ... more

Playoff hole worst shot makes sense, but for clarification, would both players need to make the putt? Or once a putt is made the partner does not need to match it? Islands in parking lot 3 sound fine, not really an advantage.

Darin Sinclair-WNDGC   April 10, 2014 at 1:09pm

I've played only 1 player needs to make the putt / ace. Once a disc is in the basket, that team is done. We could do both players need to make for it to count, but that might get ugly!

Pursel cited 'other things to do rather than duplicate 4 hours in the woods Monday AND Wednesday.' He also reported that although he would be spending some Wednesdays with his wife, the decision was soley based on Pursel's desire to do something other than disc on Wednesdays. Casinos, and bars were listed as expected whereabouts of Pursel during the BDL offseason.
