End of Season Update
Hey everyone, I got out of the habit of posting league news (I was simply too tired to write a big long description of what you already know) and I apologize, but I need to update you on this upcoming season. As you all know this past week was Labor Day and Ben Lynch said he had 13 or so people out to Sussex for a random draw doubles and apparently everyone had a good time, so please be sure to thank Ben for running this fun event on his "day off"!
This coming Monday (September 12th) will be the first week of the fall season. We will keep the start time at 6 PM for this week, but this might need to get bumped up for week two. My apologies in advance if this start time change will keep anyone in particular from playing . .. it isn't meant to exclude anyone it is only meant to make sure everyone finishes with some light out. Also, Terry will be giving away an awesome Innova Discatcher Mini Basket for the summer season and we will take care of this drawing in the near future for those that have purchased mulligans in the 6 week summer season . . . perhaps we will do it after the round this monday either in the parking lot or at the bowling alley.
See you in a few days!
Mike
P.S. I did crash my computer this week (and am still currently offline, unless I am using someone else's computer)so forgive me if I get delayed in posting scores and such, I will do my best to get it done within 24-48 hours of league but that will be determined by how quickly I repair my current computer or by my wife's usage of her computer.

13 (or so) Weeks between aces then back to back weeks!?!?
This was Week #5 of 6 weeks for the shortened Sussex Summer Session which means next week is double points night!!!!
Last week we saw Brandon Burbach take down the massive Ace Pool of 13 (or so) weeks of carryovers and he turned his $184 cash into $276 in funny money. I would have had a hard time turning down that much cash, but I heard a rumor from Terry he already spent all but about $75 of the winings.
This week we saw Matt Atherton follow up with an ace of his own on Hole #6. I heard a rumor he threw a 1st Run Champion Groove! He took home a whopping $24 (which should have only been $23, my mistake).
Divisional Highlights included Mike Janowksi (shooting -8) taking down the playoff (over Brad Weber) for first in Open with a birdie on #2 . . . He can throw it a long way . . . because I also heard he hit chains on Hole #9 but it didn't stick . . . I would have enjoyed that because I always like to see an ace pool split . . . unless I am the one winning it! In Advanced we saw Ben Lynch come out less than 12 hours from his completed hand surgery and shot a league best (-7). This story got even more wierd when we heard what happened after he had thrown his disc within about 15' of a basket ready to make a tap in duece. Instead the dog picked up his disc and ran it hundreds of feet away turning his deuce into a 4 and costing him a personal best (-9). I checked with Terry and it turns out the disc should have been replaced (without penalty) because it had already come to rest. The group would have to decide where it had actually come to rest but this isn't tournament play so I am sure everyone could agree on something pretty easily. Sorry Ben, now I need to look up if there was a penalty for playing the disc from the wrong spot! In the Amateur division we saw Jon Doenier come in and take down the division with a (-3). That score has cashed in Advanced a couple of times this season, so perhaps he needs to move to a higher division, but we will give him another week in that division before deciding if he should be competing in the Advanced division. In the Women's division we saw Brianna take down this weeks funny money with a (+14) but Jo Jo Lyannas won the CTP so none of the women went home empty handed this week. The Advanced and Pro Divisions also competed in a CTP and again to a lightpole on the boulevard of grass across from the parking lot. The road was again OB to make it just that much harder and we only saw a handful of discs in bounds but Joel Kamoske was sitting under the evergreen about 20' from the pole (where it would have been a tough birdie) and the second place winner Mike Wertz was about 65' away past the second road. We also saw one casualty with Matt Atherton (Mr. ACE) flipping his disc over and hitting the lightpole about 150' away from the correct lightpole. We all enjoyed that . . . thanks Matt! And once again, your league director turned over his Katana and it dove into the dirt before the parking lot . . . I'm gonna figure it out one of these days!
See you next week!

Hot August Rounds
OK . . . so the temperatures have cooled significantly in the last few weeks, perhaps that explains some better shooting by some people.
In the Pro Division Scott Slauson (Winner of the Open Division over Scotty Too Hotty Burtard from Bringing Sussex Back last fall) graced us with his presence and came in with a (-10) after not playing here since sometime in the Spring Season. Joel Kamoske followed up his best round all season (-11) from last week with a (-12) this week and I heard a rumor he didn't even get to use his mulligan . . . I sure hope he didn't tank a 10 to 15 footer like my entire group did and hold onto the mulligan for later in the round. Brandon Burbach hit an ace on Hole #10 and shot 4 better than his best on the season (-8) and just missed cash, but the $184 in cash for the Ace might console him for some time to come. Pat Hamill also regained some form after not playing here for a fair amount of time and improved to a (-9) and I personally know he can do better than that.
In the Advanced Division, Dave Olson, who went on to win this week and extend his lead in the Advanced Division, shot his best round ever at Sussex (-8), Also in the Advanced division Dean Peters and Brandon Pungarcher shot (-6) their best rounds during league and I (Mike Harrington) tied my best round ever (for the third or fourth time) at Sussex to get into the 3 way tie for 2nd in the division. Shannon Wiskowski also shot his best on the season with an (E) . . .I heard him say before league that "I need to be shooting below par here soon", so maybe next week it will happen Shannon . . .you are on the verge!
This weeks CTP contest saw a return of a light post CTP and with someones suggestion we included the road as OB as we threw down the hill to the lightpost by the garbage cans. There were half a dozen people who went OB but I don't think any of those discs would have been closer (within 20-25' or so) than Dave Olson and Matt Atherton . . . two regular league players from multiple leagues who have got to be sick of dominating the CTP events during league.
Next week is actually week 5 of 6. I am sorry that when I wrote the notes last week I was mistaken. Perhaps we will shake it up a little bit next week like I said I was going to do this week, before finishing the season with Double Points in Week 6.
Thanks again for your attendance, but please try and convince some more people to come to Sussex for league . . . we could use some more Amateur players (Over Par), and some more women to try and establish actual divisions for these regular attendees. The Advanced (11-19 people) and Open fields (6 or 7 people) have been fairly well attended every week, but we would always take more people into these divisions.
See you next week.

Rain rain go away
I stand by my comment that it wasn't going to rain . . . it didn't rain, it was more like a drizzle. It was annoying but it is a good test of ones abilities to withstand conditions that are not ideal, which is a little unfortuante because without the rain I don't think we could have had better conditions with the temperatures hovering about 70-75 degrees and light to 5 MPH winds. Overall scores were better than average it seemed so despite the rain we all (as a whole) persevered. The standouts were Joel Kamoske (-11), Jeff Hatch (-7) and Dave Olson (-7), Matt Atherton (-3), Ben Lynch (-1) who all shots lights out compared to their averages, although I think Joel was just setting us all up when he claimed he had been shooting so "poorly" all year.
The CTP action saw us leave the old school (CTP to the lightpost) for the new school doing a CTP to an actual basket. It was highly contested for the top two spots especially when considering the second place spot slid underneath the first place disc (had the disc not been there it would have skidded out of contention).
All in all a great week (despite the rain . . . ahemm I mean drizzle) . . . special thanks to Ben Lynch for continuing to participate so you can all redeem your funny money or make additional purchases each week. That is something I am unable to do as your league director so I appreciate Ben being there most weeks!
See you for week 5 where I think we need to shake things up a bit, not sure what that means or what I will do quite yet, but it will be something we haven't done before I can promise you that!!!! Bring a friend (maybe even another woman so they can actually have a legitimate division next week. I know my wife plans to show up all of next season!!! Let's be the first league to successfully have a decent women's division every week!!!!
See you soon,
Mike Harrington

Boom Goes the Dynamite
Just a little under 2 hours from the last group finishing the scores are posted, the points are tallied, and you can see how much you won this week (or how much you should strive to win next week). If you are looking for a shot at some money . . . come on down to Valley View on Wednesday . . . the Ace pool is getting up there (for Valley View) and if you don't have an ace at Valley View I'm not sure you can call yourself a local Milwaukee disc golfer. Bring it on down to Valley View or hit up Spassland on Thursday for more ace runs and some good old fashioned recreational disc golf leagues.
See you out there somewhere!

Hot Action Tomorrow
Week #2 of the Summer League is only 22 hours away! I will have all of the cash and funny money payouts from Week #1 so if you won anything last week . . . show up tomorrow and you will get paid. Then you can stick around and play this weeks league action . . . its going to be hot . . . literally and figuratively. Bring a friend along if you can, we will welcome any new people to the league with open arms.
As always . . .be there are early as you can . . . 15 minutes to 6:00 would be ideal so I can make out scorecards appropriately. If anyone from the league needs to get ahold of me my cell # is 262 894 3404. We will not hold up league if you are running late, but if I know you are coming, I can at the very least get you onto an appropriate scorecard.

Booya
Just about 24 hours after having one of our best crowds at Sussex League this year, I have learned how to use Disc Golf Scene, update scores, post new news, and most importantly for all you out there . . . SHOW YOU THE MONEY! So here are the results of last nights league scores and the payouts. The CTP contest saw the slowest group on the night (about 20-30 minutes longer than any other group) take down all three winning positions. Sorry to make everyone wait around only to lose out on the prizes, but I needed to be fair and allow everyone a chance to win, especially since there were a few new players to our league in that group. I will pick up blank vouchers from Terry tomorrow at Valley View League and will be able to do all payouts next week.
I also talked to Terry and he is fine making the summer league a 6 week session so we will be shortening the season and also only allowing 1 dropped score so it is essentially the best 5 out of 6 weeks. 4 out of 6 just didn't make sense to us so we made an executive decision to make it your 5 best weeks. This means that we will probably do something fun like a random doubles on Labor Day (to allow for people who actually spend time doing other things on Holiday weekends) and then jump right in to a fall league on September 12th. We will have to wait and see how many weeks we can play based on daylight, so we will possibly need to vote on it later on.
Thanks for everyone who came out and made running the league such an enjoyable experience. Please try your hardest to be there at least 15 minutes early because if I have to fill out cards I need at least 10 minutes to do so effectively, and if you are late . . . you are not allowed to complain about what card you end up on . . . that is your end of the deal . . . to arrive early.
See you all next week!
