South Side Sunday Service started as an opportunity for local disc golfers to come together on Sunday mornings for a round of golf. Because there was already a long running doubles league on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, I decided to offer an alternative to doubles and an alternative to afternoon golf. Immediately Sunday Services became a hit. I believe that the success of this venture was determined by the need. There was/is a need for a league to help players develop and hone their skills to become tournament ready.
League Name- South Side Sunday Service Spring League 2016
Website- Updates and Announcements will be posted through Facebook on South Side Sunday Service’s page.
Scoring/Schedule/Leaderboard will be posted through discgolfscene
http://www.discgolfscene.com/leagues/South_Side_Sunday_Service_Spring_2016
Location- Currently, all 10 scheduled services will take place at Rum Village Disc Golf Park.
Time- Meet at Rum Village Disc Golf Course at 9am on Sunday morning for tee off at 930am.
Details- This is a private league open ONLY to players that have previously recorded a round at an official South Side Sunday Service prior to March 6th. This will be a 10 week league over an 11 week period with a break for the Mishawaka Meltdown on April 3rd. The League is March 6th-May 15th with the players party and awards to be distributed on May 15th. If there is inclement weather prior or during a league round, it will be determined by the League Coordinator whether the round will be played or cancelled. Any “make up†rounds will be announced well in advance to ensure fairness for everyone. All players will have a handicap and average associated to them on March 6th based on calculations from all previous rounds they have played during a South Side Sunday Service.
Object- This is a points league with several ways for players to accrue points. Players will receive 2 points for attendance (must finish the round and report score). Each week the player will be aiming to shoot below their average. If a players shoots below their average they will have earned 2 pts. If a player matches their average (i.e. AVG=54 Player Shoots=54) they will have earned 2pts. Beyond trying to shoot below an average, the player is also looking to shoot the lowest handicapped score. The lowest handicapped score earns 5pts, second lowest score earns 4pts, 3rd is 3 points, 4th lowest is 2pts and 5th lowest is 1pt. Players can also earn 5pts for an ACE. 1pt if they are closest to the pin in the CTP payout and the lowest scratch score earns 2pts. There will be no tie breakers, the top 5 handicapped scores will be given points. If two players tie with the lowest handicapped scores then both players will be given 5pts. It will be up to the players if they would like to split the payout or do a playoff. Points will not be altered based on the results of a playoff. The goal of this league is to accrue the most amount of points by May 15th. There will be no penalty for missing a league round other than the player will obviously not accrue any points that week. Each week, points will be posted on the discgolfscene league page
http://www.discgolfscene.com/leagues/South_Side_Sunday_Service_Spring_2016 . Averages and handicaps are kept in a separate spreadsheet that will be posted weekly on the league Facebook page (South Side Sunday Service). As points are posted on discgolfscene, the leaderboard will update and keep track of overall totals. All players that have questions about points should first refer to the rules of the league and then next email Joe at [email redacted] or contact him via text at 574-309-6139.
Cost- Each player must pay $25 as a registration fee for this league by March 6th. There will be a one week grace period granted for all players. This registration fee will provide the player with a custom South Side Sunday Service numbered bag tag that will be distributed based on final averages after the last league round and a South Side Disc Golf Club disc. There is a weekly cost associated to this league as well. Each week, each player will be REQUIRED to pay $6 prior to hole assignments. $3 goes towards the payout pot and $3 goes to the ACE fund. If the ace is NOT hit during that round, $2 of the $3 will roll into an ongoing ace pot and we will have a CTP throw off for the remaining pot (equals to one dollar per player). This ensures that there will be payouts every week and a revolving ace fund with the potential to get very large, very quickly. The "payout pot" is given to the player that shoots the lowest handicapped score of the day. If there are at least 20 players present for a league round, the pot will be split to pay out the lowest two handicapped scores using a 75/25 split. If two players tie for lowest handicapped round, they can either split the pot or have a throw off to determine who would receive the 75% and who would receive the 25%.
Play- Players should be at the course location by 9am so they can register to play (pay the man his money) so that the league coordinator can start hole assignments. Abide by course rules, anything on or over cement is OB. There is a mandatory tree on holes 13 (to the left) and hole 18 (to the left). Safetyville is OB and hitting pedestrians is strongly discouraged. If there is a discrepancy, play a provisional and take a picture. The league coordinator will make a ruling at the end of the round. Each hole will be given a score card. Scores are to be kept every hole. This is tournament style play. Please use markers, exhibit player etiquette, and abide by PDGA rules. The league coordinator has rule books available upon request. At the end of the round, one player on the card must make sure the league coordinator receives the score card. If any player chooses to not participate in the CTP (should a throw off take place) they will not be penalized. Score cards will be calculated and winnings will be awarded. Should a CTP throw off need to take place, it is the coordinators discretion on how this will take place. The player whose disc rests closest to the holes post will win the pot. There will likely be a tape measure for us.
Bag Tags- Tags will be distributed after the final round of leagues. The lowest tag number (1) will go to the player with the lowest average and so on and so forth.
Trophies- Awards will be distributed for a few different categories: the player with most points after the last round will be consider League Champion. There will likely be 2nd Place and 3rd Place trophies. There will also be a Most Improved Player Award, Hot Round Award (lowest round recorded), Lowest Handicap Round as well as several others. If you can think of an award that should be given, please notify the league coordinator.

First Week of Spring League
I hope everyone is as excited about the start of leagues as I am. I will updating the spreadsheet with last weeks scores and then I will be posting everyone's starting handicaps and averages. Remember, you average is what you want to beat each week to earn you points, and your handicap is what will help you win the weekly pot. Registration fee of $25 is mandatory but I am extending a weeks grace period. If you do not have it this Sunday, you can bring it the following Sunday. Also, the weekly cost is now $6 and PLEASE do not bring quarters and try your best to bring the correct change. Lastly, go through the "About" section of the league and read the rules prior to Sunday.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone for our first ever Spring League Sunday Service. This year is going to be one to remember.
