Tough-shot doubles format today meant:
a) when disc is thrown in the basket, that team is done with that hole. Teammate does not have to repeat the putt.
b) odd-dog throws twice each time and card opponents choose which lie to throw next. Possible exception on the putt, see above.
c) As is SAFE-D tradition, players each get a mulligan. A mulligan helps the player who is using it, not hurting that player/team. for example: When individual throws a shot they don't like, he or she may use ...

I cannot remember the last time it affected the end score, but it has been a St Aug Friday Evening Doubles fixture when I run it:
805.02 Disc Above Two Meters
The two-meter rule refers to the rules within 805.02. It is not in effect unless the Director declares it to be in effect. The Director may declare the two-meter rule to be in effect for the entire course, for particular holes, and/or for individual objects.
If the two-meter rule is in effect when a disc has come to rest at least tw ...

We usually play long pads on Friday Doubles, its been several months since playing shorts. JakeL hit an ace the last two times he played shorts with the group on Friday. To preserve the ace fund when playing short pads, we'll split the Primary Ace Fund in half. Not everyone will agree with me, but I called it beforehand!!
Friday doubles tees at noon on 12-23-2022. Holiday attire encouraged!
When we are lucky enough to have Ron Russell #9999 join our StrongArmFridayEvening-Doubles, it is no surprise that he is very often among the groups receiving a payout. Be careful though friends, when calculating how much he has won at SAFE-D meetings based on the scores posted here on discgolfscene because Ron always kicks his portion of the winnings "back to the club". For example, according to the payout schedule, last week 1st should've gotten 25 each, second should've p ... more
For the first time ever at a SAFE-D Meeting, the four CTP winners decided to playoff for all the CTP prizes.
Zeke had 13, Tyler had 14, Ethan had 22 and BrianC had 25from22. The sudden-death playoff was on the front side, and BrianC came away with all the CTP loot. Tyler&Zeke edged out Walt&Brian for first place by a stroke.
A few of the white pin placements have been changed since last Friday. RickM bagged CTPs on yellow#9 and white#1. LukeS got yellow#2 ctp. GarrettJ, back to us bearded after a hiatus, got white#6 ctp. The big-baller tonight was RickM, who won by a stroke as odd-dog; due in no small part to his Ace on white#5 (original pin placement). Nice $99 cashout Rick.
WaltG on 14 and 21, SeanH on 24 long (from 23 pad), RickM & AaronB on third shot 25.
I have a discount code to join or renew PDGA membership, it must be applied at checkout on the PDGA website. Will be made available for any former / current StrongArm League member, LMK.
Today's CTPs went to Jake L ( hole 4) and Caleb A (holes 6, 8 and 17). The gnats were in full force, as was the humidity. Ace fund now at $50. Hopefully Isaias will treat us kindly and next week's game will be less torturous conditions.
Trent took CTPs on holes 1 and 23, while 19 went to Chuck and 2 went to James. Luke and yours truly managed to put together a solid round and grab the win. Shot of the day had to be Luke's drive on 13, which bounced off the rim of the basket for a drop-in deuce.
Luke Stamps got paid on a hole 2 skip shot that dropped from the band to the basket while barely hitting chains. As he was odd-dog last night, his partner threw just for giggles, and almost backed it up with another skip shot that didn't miss by much!
Very pleasant weather tonight, hope it holds out for the Jacksonville Open pros this weekend. Two foursomes finished before dark, even with a late start. Luke got the CTP on 1, and took those on second-shot 8, and short 25 from 22 pad. We decided to skip a few holes (22-24) because of campers. The ace fund(s) emerged unscathed despite the "v1m" that me and partner Jody posted on hole 15...I love this game.
Weather was pleasant, to say the least. NickO showed himself for the first time in a while and renewed membership- bag tag and shirt TBD.
Jon Weber made his annual appearance and bagged 2 CTPs! New to us tonight was Trent Burns who shows promise as a serious thrower....
JLW & Nick had to make a 50' putt on the last hole to avoid a playoff (and did). Thanks to everyone who played and we'll do it again next Friday starting at 5:30.
Please note 3pm tee for doubles this week- this is the "Friday after the Christmas Party" edition of the SAFE-D Meeting; those of you who have been around here for a while should know what that means.
Irma brought some rain a few weeks ago, but the Nor'easter since then dropped more precip than the hurricane! Many puddles in places I haven't seen puddles before. Surprisingly they managed to mow since last week, and the bugs were not that bad. Ed G dropped out midway and Bob finished his round Cali style.
We played until after dark thanks to a late start and a fivesome. After the round, I decided to lose my UV/blacklight flashlight, cell phone, and the round's scorecards. So the scores are approximate, but if you call to complain about it, I wont answer!
The regularly-scheduled SAFE-D Meeting is cancelled for 3/31/17 because almost all the usual players will be at doubles at Fore Palms, which begins at 3pm. I'm told that Rev. Lovejoy will begin signups around noon. Good luck to all StrongArmers in the Jacksonville Open this weekend!
The plan is to play all 26 holes before dark, while attempting to drain the remainder of the barrel. Come early & thirsty for the full experience. Added bonus CTPs and free libations (while it lasts) for throwers at this SAFE-D Meeting.
Not often has it happened, but the game was called early by mutual agreement tonight due to unsafe conditions. I was busy doing course prep for the Fling in two weeks, and Bryan came to see who was crazy enough to play in the crap we had this evening; well it was LukeS, DanBus, and even PhilR up to a point. Thanks for helping me after the SAFE-D Meeting Luke!
Current Members now enjoy the chance at a $200 ace payout! If someone gets a hole-in-one who is not a Current Member, payout is half of the fund* not to exceed $50. The secondary Friday Ace Fund (currently at $1 and getting bigger) is on the table only in the next SAFE-D Meeting after the primary FAF is paid out. Get some!
23 throwers today for the keg-killing challenge; success was achieved.
Players from Live Oak, Jacksonville, Daytona, Snellville GA, and Somewhere Up In The Hills WV joined the regulars and demonstrated great sportsmanship on a soggy track tonight. Sarah and Nick played for a short time too. Slappy won the Best-Dressed award, James Wynn did what needed to be done without asking..
Scores posted under Week 144, the top four groups were paid. First place agreed to split rather than the usual pl ...

Please be signed up (or let us know your intention to be if you are running a few minutes late) by 5:05. We want to finish by dark, and that wont happen if more than 4 players on any card unless we tee AT 5:20.

Friday Doubles tees at 5:45 from July through Sept to take advantage of the slightly cooler temperatures and give people more time to get here after work.
5/29/15 should have a lot of players, so we will start earlier than usual and leave a little daylight so if people want to brew some after-doubles shenanigans they can.
Guy blows into town outta nowhere with a putter & a driver, asks about doubles. "No problem" I tell him, "we start at 5:30". He signs up, gets paired with JML, and proceeds to put on a clinic for us; claims 2 of the 3 CTPs plus half of the prize for first place. Big Arm Adam parked #22 for a drop in, and overbrewed #11 by 50' but still got it. Shannon got CTP on #10. Lights out putting, and his partner was no slouch. Nice shooting Adam; it was great meeting you and ... more
It was a little tricky with the rodeo traffic on 13, and really windy, but overall a nice evening for chucking plastic. Randomly drawn CTPs went to DanBus on 5, BenJ on 13, and JasonL on 15. Randomly drawn partners JamesW and LeoA won first place and scored $20 each. Half of the doubles crew stayed for a separate 12 holes after dark.
Sad to see the 'glow season' ending but...Next week the SAFE-D Meeting tee time moves to 5:30 and will go later as the daylight itself allows. At first we play one of the 18-hole layouts, then move to a 20-, 21-, then the full 25-hole layout when the days are longest. Check out the layout at the St Johns County Fairgrounds page here on DGscene. titled "Fairgrounds Fling Forty" under Courses tab. No decision has been finalized yet, but that's the one in the lead right now ... more
SAFE-D Meeting tonight will play a half-round before dark, then the same half-round after dark (i.e. event on N side restricts play of holes 13-25 so we'll play only on the Front 12). It will probably be 18 holes: 1-12 then 1-6.
This week's (2014 Sept 12) CTPs went to Scotty (2), James (4) and David (21). Congrats to Jason & Joe on their 17-under round that brought home the bacon.
The sixsome finished hole 25 in the dark, so next week we'll play holes 1-21 trying to beat sundown. As dark comes earlier, we will go to one of the many 18 hole layouts; and lastly, moving the starting time earlier in 15 minute increments.
Last night's SAFE-D Meeting scores are posted, but don't scoff when you look at the amount relative to par. We played Glen's Gold Layout which uses 16 existing pads & two other hard surfaces to tee toward 18 existing baskets. The flow is pretty good in that it isn't too disruptive if other groups are playing the regular 25 hole layout. Gold Layout Holes are supposed to be challenging for a professional player, and this layout delivers! Glen mapped it out and assigned pars ... more
Wow! The layout looks awesome, yet it's brutally challenging:) My friend and I will try it out tomorrow morning. Look forward to it.
How did you like the "gold" layout Brian? If you shot par you did very well...
I like the layout!!! I shot 5 plus. Will play it again in the near future and try to shoot a par or better;)
Next week we start at 4pm, then do another round starting after dark, around 6:15 most likely. This way, the players who don't enjoy playing at night are included, as well as those who have to work later on Fridays and can't make it by 5pm.
This week we'll tee AT 5pm again for an 18-hole round, but keep in mind that by 6 it is dark. This means each player needs to come prepared with glow discs and lights / whatever is needed. I think this week is the rodeo on the north side, so we'll likely play 1-12 then 1,2,3,10,11,12 again. CTPs on 10,11,12 will give each player multiple shots at each CTP.
This week the SAFE_D Meeting will Tee AT 5pm SHARP. We are playing only 18 holes in order to finish by dark. Please contact someone in attendance if you are running a few minutes late so we can randomly select the correct number of players. Latecomers who have not made such notification cannot play Cali, and may be ineligible for play during that round. Custom has been that your partner plays cali / odd dog until you can join the group. Slow play will be scorned, we gotta finish by dark!
Oh, one of the coolest things about last night's game that I forgot to include in the last post:
About an hour after sunset, as the huge orange ball was rising toward the treetops in the eastern sky, we all got to witness a launch from the Kennedy Space Center! Cape Canaveral is a two hour drive by car from this course, but visibilty was great. The contrail was white at first, then faded to orange as the craft left Earth's atmosphere and the reflection from the moon did it's thing. Super Schweet Space Shot!!!
What a night for disc golf in Elkton. There were 13 players, fewer than I expected given the flawless weather and portly Ace Fund.
Among the three cards, we had three eagles; including a "v1" by Billy M & Nick O on hole 15, a duece on hole 8 by Adam R & Walt G, and a laser-shot Ace by Jeff R on hole 19 that paid the lion's share of $500.

The St Aug Friday Evening-Doubles meetings are alive & kicking!
Ace Fund will be $100+ for the January 18th, 2013 game. True random partners, 100% payout*. Players who have not played at least two prior SAFE-D meetings will forego 25% of any hole-in-one winnings; that goes to jumpstart the next ace fund.
Scheduled CTPs for next regular 25-hole round are 8, 15, 22 (CTPs #4, 8, 12 for next “2@front 12†game). Hole eight is a second shot, team payout CTP.
Ace fund is well over $300 and ripe for the picking!!!
