I agree with Steve. We can defenitely play through the bike paths. The Spray Parks on the other hand......Well, that's a whole other story all together now.

I would like to quote a few of my union friends "organize or die". What this series does is bring dg to a level of responsibility and respect that it long has been lacking. Organizing players into leagues and events is the best way to legitimize OUR game and change the persona that only "broke dope smoking hippies" play dg. Being able to show that dg is a fiscally responsible investment for not only parks and rec, but new and different sponsors to the game. With close to 1000 ... more

Being able to show that dg is a fiscally responsible investment for not only parks and rec, but new and different sponsors to the game. With close to 1000 players in the first year MICPS is making dg strong. With hard numbers, convincing a metro park to build a new course over a new bike path should become routine.

The point series was a great idea ! Hopefully next year we have flip and ludington leagues on here also so its a little more convenient for some of us west side players to make it out to a mid week league. but thats on us not you lol. The competitive nature is fun im not gonna lie. i loved playing all the sanctioned tournaments including the finals and throwing my whitehall marker down and seeing peoples reactions . it made for good conversation lol

this thing is just going to get bigger and better and hopefully next year we can break that 2000 mark ! now is there a plan for a winter league for cooperative point series because i believe are league out here is goig to run oe and im pretty sure we would want to be involved with it

the points are fun but it really means u beat a either played some huge leagues and won or placed high consistantly im almost in the 90th place ill take that as a win for me lol

ya know i only played in two of the "bum leagues" so to say all summer, but its always cool after the scores are posted on the scene to see if i moved up or fell behind all my buddies that i shoot with. mostly just for my own personal esteem boost but still its great to see someone taking time outta their own schedual to make this happen.although i wont be attending the final event i look forward to being apart of this state-wide league for some time. i think you said it best foz, its ... more

Thanks for the kind words and we all know there is effort behind anything like this but what is so cool for me is that it lived up to it's name COOPERATIVE. I want to say that made it easier, but the truth is it made it possible. And I would like you all in your minds and comments to self acknowledge that. Scott and I just help direct the energy of several people like Pete, Mike, Gabe, Mia, Ray and Garrett who sat down and said lets take some of the dreams we talk about on the course and let's try to harness this cooperation that transformed our local leagues into a group that works together to define something bigger and Pete was there with the right tools - DGS. Our local leagues and players put aside the bickering and rivalries and channeled the energy toward the bigger picture and many of you saw it and were more than willing to voice your opinions and ideas in mostly constructive ways. Look what we all have done. Thanks to DGS for simplifying and automating many of the activities related to playing, organizing and communicating about this sport but even as great as the tool is, it does not happen without the collective players coming together and chatting about someones Ace or a Hot Round and connecting up when you see they are playing at a course or time that just works or that we can make work, knowing that we'll have a fun round at least. The MiCPS is just that - all the key aspects of our favorite league just multiplied by the number of leagues and additional players doing the same things and having viability to it all in such a easily accessible and interactive way.

It's great to have a common frame work and common reference, those silly points, for a reference, a joke, a challenge or a goal. It has brought me closure to many of the players that I previously only occasionally ran into on a course or may have never met. Now I get to see who is playing, where and how well, as well as get a little glimpse into aspects of their lives.

What we have is also because of a few who took a chance to be a part of something new and different - Thanks to all the League coordinators who saw it or were willing to take a chance. Heck the price was right. I got way more than twice the league for my local league fee. The power of 36 leagues statewide.

It was 760 players who wanted to be a part of this even if they only get one round this summer or one a week or one a day, there was something for everyone. Heck they are fun league rounds and no matter how your day went, what else is happing in life we had one more incentive to get out and throw, a walk in the park with a purpose, with some friends and leave it all behind for a couple hours. I don't know how often I heard. "it don't get better than this", even in the rain or during a sever wind advisory. I played more courses this year and I loved having the incentive and the built in excuse - Honey It's league night and I need the points or "it's double points" and she'd looks at me like I'm from Mars and she kicked me out of the house reminding me I that the Honey Do list will get extra attention tomorrow when she escapes to Yoga class.

Mike your right - the Point Series did gave me a little extra incentive to encourage myself to get just "one more round" in or see a friend from another part of the state. To play another casual and yet competitive league round. Whether random doubles or a singles round, the opportunity to meet new players and learn new things occurs ever round.

Like the 1001 excuses I have about my game, its great to have one or two like that to even encourage me to try and get one more league round when I'm tired, sore or thinking my Putt will never improve. With just one more round I'll be just that much closer to get my hyzer down, my putt stronger or my drive just a bit further without getting wild.... And all with friends, new and old, some just starting out as well as those I aim to be just as good as SOMEDAY soon ...

I was energized when I saw others experiencing and realizing that each league, course and new player offers us more of these great experiences and we learn faster and have more fun being a part of some thing bigger than we were just a few months ago. That what was going on all over the state was more of what we love about our favorite local league and it's all just a little bit more accessible than it was before.

Several people have told me that 760 has exceeded their expectations of participation, well we actually represent even more and my only regret is that we are not more like two thousand - image the energy and power of that cooperative player community -Image that Cooperative Grand Finale. What 760 Michigan disc golfer have done is truly impressive and I am ecstatic to have been one of those 760 players who achieved this cooperative state wide league, to be a member of this cooperative effort that achieved what no others have achieved before us. I am looking forward to celebrating my last round of the season, with my friends and continuing to dream about what could be, while I enjoy what we have achieved together.

Foz and Scott. It is amazing the positive response the point series has acheived. The time and effort both of you have put forth are well appreciated.
I have heard from a few players that we normally dont see that they came out to get the points. It has been great meeting players from around the state who have made it out.

Although I havent been too active this summer within the MiCOPS series, I have noticed an over all positive sentiment within my local leagues. Many people have enjoyed an extra incentive to get out and participate. What you have done is monumental and will surely be a benchmark for the future growth of the sport we all love so much. I personally have met a lot of new golfers and had a lot of fun in the process. Unfortunately, an injury kept me from competing all summer, but overall I had a lot o ... more
