League News

Finally, an Ace!
The story of the day today had to be Eli and his not-so-hangover. Right out the gate on #1, Eli hits chains and basket, but falls out. Later he clanks one off the side of the #11 basket. While throwing his "ace opp" on #15 during alternate shot, he drains an ace with his newly found love, the Pro Boss! His first league ace and third overall. We all signed the disc and took a moment to recognize what had happened. On the very next hole, it was Eli's turn to throw for the team and he manages to dunk the brand new ace disc in the pond!! A bittersweet day for sure. Next week we are back at Epple park, see you there.
Mike claims #1!
After several attempts and one super close call, Mike Oliveros grabs on to the #1 tag today out @ Optimist DGC. The usual breeze kept tricking the players once again as Mike turned in a decent 4 down score to best the field by 1 stroke. Chris and Jeff were knotted at 60 while Todd posted a solid 61 in his first attempt at the course, nice job! Meanwhile, Brad shoots 4 over and creeps back in to the top 10 as Deione almost fell out with a plus 6. Thanks to all who made the trek, it was a great time as always! Next week is blind draw dubs @ RRDGC.
Blizzard Bonus.
With a winter storm canceling the traveling league, the players converged on the UNC course. Ryan Foose was back and looking to shed the #20 tag he earned last week with a left handed round. Today he was shooting with his trusty right, overcoming a couple mishaps along the way, placing him second in the open division and in the overall. Ron Brown's luck was not as fortunate as he lost his prized driver to the construction site with his very first practice throw! This must have rattled his cage as he then walked away with the last place tag. Eric Lind bangs home a 200 foot deuce on a trial run of hole one, leaving him wondering how he would top that feat. Some bad breaks led to him tying for 1st in the advanced class and dropping away from the #4 spot. Mr. Ahlberg was at war with his putter today, but he held on for a share of the advanced top spot. Chris Thomas was seemingly un-phased by the elements as he drained six birdies in a row on the 1st lap and marched to a seven stoke win. Thank you to all who showed up on a less than stellar day, each of you receive 5 bonus points. Hopefully we will shoot the Westminster course next week, see you there.
Wind has the last laugh.
Chris Thomas and Jeff Tori battled it out today @ Pioneer Park on a set of modified, lengthened tees. The weather was fine early and the sun broke through making a very pleasant morning. Hole 2 proved to be strangely difficult as several high scores were recorded there. Jeff sank an unlikely 90 footer on #5 to tie it up @ 10 down! He sailed it straight to the bucket, riding the breeze the whole way. After a parking contest on #6 they were tied @ minus 11 with three left to play. That's when the wind really picked up, Jeff seemed to know what was about to happen... Chris parks inside 6 feet on 7 and inside twelve on 8, making two more birdies to go 13 down. Mother Nature proved tougher than Mr. Thomas as Jeff bogeyed two of the final three, leaving Chris with a 4 stroke win. Nice shoot-out, Jeff! With an honorable mention, Ryan Foose shoots left handed, still nursing an injured right. Ironically, he managed to break his own record of a 30 stroke victory by, this time, losing by a modest 31. The club travels to Westminster next week to shoot the scenic City Park course, see you there.
New guys rule!
The air was humidly frigid this morning as we got underway over @ Epple park for some doubles action. After a shotgun start, the teams took aim. Once the dust settled it was Mike and Eli @ 10 down standing tall, with Chris and Ryan Reeves not far behind. There was, however, a three way tie for third and a sudden death playoff ensued. With a birdie on #6 it was Steve and Deione coming in third. Singles next week @ Pioneer park.
New Course Record!
River Ranch DGC should always be a great place to earn some bonus points; with 8 out of 11 players shooting under par, we saw a lot of them today. The sun was super bright and I am now feeling the after effects as I see just how scorched my face is. Not as scorched as the scorecard though! Nine birdies in a row to start ensured that El Capitan would come in on top. Nearly shooting an ace on hole #8 along the way with a skip that bounced off the top of the bucket! Jeremy Lucas turned in an impressive minus 8 to claim #2 leaving the field greatly anticipating his return. No discs were lost in the water today as it is still frozen solid. Come to think of it, no one even landed where there would be water anyway. Doubles play returns next week as we head to Epple Park for what should be a heated battle to the finish, see you there!
Worst score? O.K. then.
Doubles at Pioneer started with a group vote to shoot worst shot during the 1st pass and best shot during the 2nd. Both rounds were thrown form the long tees, and there was just enough snow on the ground to make footing a little slippery. Worst shot meant scores would be high during the first pass, so par was the goal there. This plan wasn't as easy as it seemed, what were normally simple shots were now pressure putts. Josh almost banged home an ace on #7! You'll get yours Josh, don't worry. Still a bit cold., but any day you see a Bald Eagle against a beautiful blue sky is a good day.
