2009 Bag Tag Rules

a. Everyone is on their honor to conduct themselves according to the rules and within the spirit of competition. Have fun. It's only a tag. The purpose of the Bag Tag Challenge is to encourage friendly competition among Stumptown Disc Golf members.

b. In order for the Bag Tag Challenge to work, all challenges must be accepted.

c. Each player must have their Bag Tag at all times. Bag Tags must be plainly visible and cannot be hidden.

i just want to chime in because i play a tag match with jonesy every time we play and that is alot

BUT and this is a big but i have posted and checkld postings on this site since ive found it and i very rarely get a response, i have even posted that i am unemployed and would play anyone anytime and still nothing... of course i have a high tag...... so i guess if it wasnt for people like jonesy and dave who dont mind what tag they play for, playing me all the time i wouldnt get alot of rounds

I am pleased that you have found the disc golf community friendly. I found it 3 years ago to be the same. We agree on that. And as for the original topic about tags, I stick to my original position. Having fun playing disc golf is a personal choice. You either decide to have fun or you don't. That is not what I was referring to in my original rant. Bag tags and the idea behind their pupose is really what I had hoped people would weigh in on. I am simply voicing what MANY others have shared with me.

More rules and restrictions will not make people play a larger field of different taggers, it will make people not want the hassle. I speak for myself when I say I play when I can play, which is never as much as I would like to. I have a very busy life with my family and job. This usually allows me one league night and one friend night a week, unless I can work a deal with the old lady. I also carry my discs with me while I work so I can play durring the day, which I do alone or with whoever I h ... more

although I understand if serious injuries keep a person from tagging. That is different.

Kent Smothers    June 12, 2009 at 11:08am

I totally respect your view. Totally disagree that the spirit of bagtags is to play alot. the spirit of bag tags is to play competitively against a broad VARIETY of people throughout the year. This creates a brotherhood and a sisterhood within the disc golf community. It is designed to encourage people to reach out past their four friends and make some calls to others who they don't normally play with, thus maybe taking the risk to find additional people you may like to play with and thus gr ... more

The 'point' is to play. If you are playing weekly with your regular group of friends are you suggesting that only two of those rounds a month be for tags? That seems like it would be counter productive to the spirit of the bag tag league which is to play disc. I for one have made it a point to play in at least one of the two leagues a week where everyone throws their tags in. This is an easy way to 'get out there' and play. I do not think that putting any kind of limits or restrictions on how ma ... more

It is also obvious that lots of people are protecting their tags. if you have less than 5 tag matches, please get on the ball and start challenging. otherwise what is the point?

Kent Smothers    June 12, 2009 at 2:46am

I think we chould have a rule regarding the number of times 2 people can play each other for tags. It seems like the same people play each other and no one else quite a bit. The same tags are going back and forth between the same people. Perhaps we should require that a person must play at least half of their tag rounds against someone they have not played in the last month. It is pretty pathetic out there. Come on fellas, call around to some other players.
