West Thompson Lake

Just over the Connecticut border, West Thompson Lake serves as the southernmost tip of the cluster of courses appearing surrounding the Worcester area. There are a very good variety of holes on this course. The front 9 will bring you in and out of the woods and give you a few tunnel shots and some holes which mix wooded/field portions very well. The back 9 opens it up with some long distance holes; the par 4 #10, which is 650 feet along a thin strip with OB rock on one side and a marsh on the other, as well as the 585 foot par 3 #15. Pars were definitely designed for pro arms on this course. Water is well used throughout- no one will have to worry about throwing too far over it, but it is a factor for all of your shots when it does come into play.

If there's a con to be had about this course, it's a relative lack of trash cans. However the powers that be at the park appear to be diligent about picking up trash; I've seen litter, but I've never seen the same piece twice. At the time of this writing, the grass has gotten VERY high on the fairways of several holes (#7 and #8 especially). While I've seen it mowed in the past, it's a good idea to watch your discs and bring your DEET.

If you don't have a big arm, don't worry about hitting par on #10 and #15. It ain't gonna happen. Very scenic course- it's a great place to bring along your non-disc golfing companion for a hike, or to bring a dog (dogs are allowed in the park, so long as they are under control.)
