Tuttle Creek State Park - River Pond

This is my sentimental favorite, as it's the first course I ever played, and I have played it a lot. Most holes play down fairways defined by mature trees that force you to throw with some precision. This is my sentimental favorite, as it's the first course I ever played, and I have played it a lot. Most holes play down fairways defined by mature trees that force you to throw with some precision. At the same time, it's in park/camping space, so you don't have much thick brush to lose discs in (but you may have a few run-ins with campers). It is a lot like a ball golf course, scaled down to disc golf. There is a good variety of hole designs and lengths, mostly in the 300-330 range, with a few shorter than that and a few longer (including #7, which can play at close to 800 feet). Many of the holes have two basket locations, but there's only one tee pad per hole.

Probably the biggest knock against the layout is that it's almost dead flat. The baskets are pretty beat up, and there isn't much signage on the course (a few of the tee pads have numbers). Recently there have been numbered flags added to the baskets, which should help visitors navigate. There is a map at the beginning of the course, and you can download it online as well (it could be hard for a newbie to find some of the holes without it). The course is also a bit out of the way, and being in a state park, you have to buy a $4 day pass if you don't have a yearly sticker on your vehicle. There are bathrooms and other amenities on the course, although some of them close down after swimming season. The whole course is, unfortunately, closed for much of the month of June, due to the annual "Country Stampede" music festival.

A number of holes play along and over drainage ditches, and a lake is in play on a couple, making for some memorable shots (but watch out for people fishing off the docks on #13). Each hole has its own unique character. If you happen to be in Manhattan or near Tuttle Creek Reservoir, I'd recommend giving it a try.

Pros: I really enjoyed the course. There were enough trees, good tee placement to, and water involvement to keep each hole interesting. There were 6 groups on the course while we were playing and I never felt rushed or like it was crowded. Cons: The course map at the beginning is nice, but even a small arrow on each basket pointing to the next tee pad would be nice. Cons: The course map at the beginning is nice, but even a small arrow on each basket pointing to the next tee pad would be nice. Also, all the baskets were serviceable, but many could use a little maintenance. Some of them also had 4"-6" of height disparity. Again, not a big deal, just an observation.
I will definitely play again and will recommend this course.
