Lakeshore

I lost an orange Z Buzzz with a Mayhem stamp in the pond on Sunday. I also have a few discs to return to the shop (received permission to go in the pond Sunday to look for the Buzzz, and the shop was closed when I returned so I couldn't drop them off). I should be around on Sunday for Night Moose doubles.

PLEASE RETURN THE DISCS YOU FIND IN THE POND!!!!! IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS GETTING IN THE POND AND NOT RETURNING DISCS PLEASE REPORT THEM!!! I AM OFFERING A REWARD FOR ANY DISCS RETURNED TO THE SHOP FROM THE POND AT ANY GIVEN TIME. IF GOLFERS KEEP GOING IN THE POND AND STEALING DISCS, THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES. I'M SICK OF IT.

1. The course is re-installed, remember to thank Delia and Steven Blink for the help everyone 2. The only permanent/physical damage I have found is #7's white tee is destroyed (*they broke it earlier and I took pictures, then tonight we found it was 3 times more damaged, like they did it intentionally later today so please everyone hurt the next carnie you see I am declaring war), they cut branches on #6, #7, #9 (but not as bad as last year), damage to the turf with some holes/ruts/lots of dead ... more

Ben 10 The Defender. Nice. Good work!

Update: The course and shop are both 'Open' officially. The course isn't really playable today due to the Carnies still packing up and about 10 baskets need to be put back in the ground. Damages: #7's white tee is broken again. Lost some limbs on #9. Large tree fell (storm damage) out of the woods on X but isn't in the way of anything for now. Lots of dead grass. Trash situation isn't nearly as bad as last year. I expect them to be gone by the end of the day today and the course fully re-inst ... more

Course is CLOSED TO PLAY. However the disc golf mega-store is still open. 10% all new merch in protest of the carnival!

I heard the Balloon Fest was extra awesome this year so most of the carnies weren't leaving Howell until later this afternoon. As I figure it, they won't be to Lakeshore until about 3:30 this afternoon. Good luck.

Ben Calhoun June 25, 2011 at 10:35pm

Joe, I'd have to agree with you on that one. It's been a pain every year for the past three years but the Management company generates revenue with this so there isn't anything that can be done. My main problem with it now is the location. there are at least two other spots within the community that can hold the carnies, but the insist on putting it on the course. I'm just glad I'm out of town until the fourth and only stopping by twice during the festival, so I won't have to deal with it. My condolences Ben, I'd hate to have that right outside my backdoor for two weeks.

They broke like 5-6 teepads overall last couple years no baskets. There is another broken basket right now. I don't know how it got broken though, kinda weird. Something had to hit it hard to break that weld, maybe the mowers. I'm going to try to mark the tees with flags and remove baskets near the carnival area this weekend. The apts. make sooo much money off this. As a resident, it will totally suck having a bunch of screaming kids in my backyard all week. Not to mention meth fueled carnies and their donkeys.
Joe Anttila June 23, 2011 at 2:32pm
How many baskets did they break last summer?
It seems weird that an event like that would go on inside of a gated community. As a resident, that's the last thing I'd want in my backyard.
Ben Calhoun June 23, 2011 at 1:42pm
The Carnies are arriving to set-up this Sunday afternoon/night course will be closed when that begins through at least July 4th but obviously up to a week or more after that. Side-bet as to how many tees will be wrecked by drunken circus freaks?

Put my banshee in the middle of the pond.. Inked
Mr. Self Destruct June 15, 2011 at 5:09pm
Ticks galore at Ford Lake. Be sure to check yourself, I just spent 20 minutes by the lake at Lakeshore and had to flick off nearly twenty ticks. It's madness out here.
W TF June 14, 2011 at 10:00am
Found neither, sorry Gabe. There was the normal kid, that I have to warn over and over, wandering around the pond looking for an opportunity to dip in but was deterred after I was circling him in Clifford for 15 minutes.

Did fond me Glo Buzz or Nuke?
I am also very confused regarding the anger and use of the words "stealing" and "consequences". There are no signs/fences/ropes denoting that area as off-limits, and to my understanding the property isn't owned by anyone running the Throw Shop (as can be Googled quickly or simply inferred from the spiteful "protest the carnival" comment below). Playing a casual round of disc golf, it is quite common to see someone go in shallow water after their disc and maybe even come out with a couple extras if they're lucky (and if they're marked, calling the owner). I wouldn't even have known anyone was upset by this issue if I hadn't been on Ben Calhoun's card last Sunday when I threw one in the water. I was actually pretty baffled by the news and my reaction was basically, "Whatever, I don't care about the extras and just want to find my Buzzz." As I've thought about it more and more, though, I don't understand how anyone is in a position to enforce "consequences" for going in the water. It is a publicly accessible park and most of those people are just trying to retrieve their own discs. As far as I can tell, such actions seem legit. I welcome any elaboration/explanation of your angry post.
