One of the best courses in the state. One of the best courses in the world. Every skill and shot are challenged and every mistake punished. The topography is superb with big ponds and steep hills and many baskets placements in spots of maximum danger. Great thanks to Joe and Denise Gill for letting us share their beautiful private course.

After two rounds for the Fall Color classic, I've got to give this course a near perfect A. Great pin placement, variety of shots, water hazard, ob/bunker hazards. Shots are technical and challenging, forcing you to play your best. Rough is very rough, which is a bonus (private course gets less play, doesn't change from year to year). In my opinion Flip City is more forgiving, making it more fun for a wide range of skill levels. Makes the most of beautiful land, and host of the best tournamen ...

In my opinion Flip City is more forgiving, making it more fun for a wide range of skill levels. Makes the most of beautiful land, and host of the best tournament southwest Michigan has to offer. My only gripe is that its not open more often. But perhaps that is why this course is such a diamond in the rough.

After calling Joe and getting permission he told us he wouldn't be able to show us around and we may get lost. Once we arrived he drove up on his cart and showed us around anyway. I was afford the opportunity to play BlueGill on Labor Day after the long weekend in Ludington. After calling Joe and getting permission he told us he wouldn't be able to show us around and we may get lost. Once we arrived he drove up on his cart and showed us around anyway. Joe Gill is nothing short of an excellent host.

The only word I can use to describe this course is "phenomenal". Joe takes great care in maintaining his property, and what a plot of land it is. While Joe was showing us his property he warned us about the danger here with three words, "Don't go long." If its not water beyond the pin it is a steep ridge that begs for rolling putters. There is not a single bad hole on this course. BlueGill offers every type of hole imaginable. There are long open holes that balance out the tightly wooded "shorter" holes.

The small details are what really make this course for me though. Like Bill at Flip City, Joe has added the little touches that make a course great. The small metal fish that mark the tees aren't just informative, they add personality. Carvings in trees, oil wells, and hole names make this special.

I can think of no other private course that offers the challenge of BlueGill. It may not be as pretty as Flip City but what it lacks in sheer beauty it makes up in difficulty. The course is not hard for the sake of being hard, but it does require you to be accurate in throwing your lines and confident in your putts.

Thank you Joe for letting us share in the joy of BlueGill. I know I can safely speak for all disc golfers when I say you have truly made something special. FYI, Joe likes IPA's so be sure to bring him a lil gift if you get the chance to play out here. The donation box is right by the parking area as well.

As Mark's review states - every mistake is punished...keep your cool or you'll be punished again and again...and once more for good measure. Bluegill has a lot of memorable holes that are not only awesome, but test your skill. Flip has some nice scenery but Bluegills is just as nice, especially when you hit the garden and water holes. Flip is a great course but comparing Bluegill to Flip is like comparing Cedar Point to Candyland. The pin placement is spectacular and almost nerve racking. One hole plays elevated on a tree trunk on the edge of a very steep monstrous hill and there are other instances of big drops near the pin. The open holes are hard deuces, the length of the holes keep them out of range for most people and even those with bigger arms - hills between you and the pin make them seem shorter than what they actually are.

My favorite hole is 15 - 400+ feet up 2 hills - and in order to get up the first hill you have to shoot through an 8-10 foot gap, it's insane. End up in the trees and it's almost impossible to advance your shot and land on the fairway.

Another favorite is 4 - 650+ feet with tight OB on the left and a tree line on the right. On your second shot towards the pin there's a lot of OB to look out for, adding even more difficulty to the hole. This is usually where a lot of crying happens.

Hole 10 - tee off through a gap of trees shooting over a pond and keeping it away from another pond by the pin - this hole looks and plays awesome.
