It's been awhile....

3 years or so actually. I can't believe it. I just read through all the old news about the redesign. And let me tell you something. I played Doubles out at Two Rivers yesterday night. Gorgeous course. I loved it. Almost brought a tear to my eye when I saw how beautiful the mouth of Hole 3 looks now. All of our hard work has paid off. The course is a joy to play. Thursday night Doubles are still ON! 5pm sign up. Come on out!

Next Phase

Now that the course is playable I believe the next focus is on 2 things. We need to cut up some of the fallen trees and look at weed eating around the tees and trees all around the course.

We need to plan on digging up more sleeves and creating more pin locations. I suggest new pin placements for:

4 = long
5= long
6 = long
7 = long
9 = long
13 = medium
14 = short
17 = long

I’m also thinking there will be a way for us to add a “X” factor placement that can be played from #2, #4 and #5.

Redesign is in effect!!!

This past Saturday we moved the remaining tee signs on the back nine. Now the complete redesign is in effect. All the tee signs have been updated and all the numbers on the signs and baskets are correct. Bare with the carpet tee pads for now. Concrete is coming soon. The layout looks like this --------> http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h65/countcomptula/tworiversredesignedlayout.jpg

A lot accomplished and a whole lot more to do!

Well, the work parties so far have been a complete success. So far the first 4 holes of the redesign are complete (except for the concrete tee pad for 4.) From there you pick up old # 5 at the Am tee and play the rest of the layout as it was before. With the addition of the 2 extra holes on the front 9, old Hole 10 (the uphill shot with the lonely broken tee pad) and old Hole 17 (the short, stuck in hole) will no longer be played. This Saturday we hope to have the majority of the redesigned ... more

Work Party Saturdays!!!

If you've ever been out to Two Rivers and said, "They need to do this," or "Why doesn't somebody do that," then this Saturday is your chance for redemption. We need help. There's lots to do. We could especially use some lawn & garden equipment, for clearing brush and what not. A few pin spots have to be dug up and moved and there is concrete galore to pour. So come check out the redesign and help us turn Two Rivers into a course that people want to play at again. Show up about 9am.

The day of reckoning is upon us!

Tomorrow afternoon we will play the redesign with the parks people (including the infamous Ken Foldger, of tee sign fame). Hopefully they like our ideas and we can get started on the redesign. A lot of work needs to be done and we are all very anxious to get started. I just hope I play well enough to keep up with the old schoolers. :)

Looking good!

Today we installed temporary carpet tee pads on the front nine and played through the new layout. All in all the new layout flows nicely. I believe today was also the first time that on multiple occasions a drive was knocked down by a tree. Usually that would be bad while playing but from a design standpoint it gets rid of those "boring pars". Next weekend we install 2 new pin positions and the tee pads for the back nine. Things are really shaping up nicely for our round with the p ... more

Work party successful!

Well today felt like we got some real work done. I bought a 32-inch crowbar for cleaning out the alt. pin placement anchors. All 20 alternate pin spots are finally cleaned out and marked. Now to get those stubborn locks off of 5 and 9. We also took 10's basket and moved it to new 4. A picture of the current lay out is here - http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h65/countcomptula/11-1.jpg

We also used temporary flags to mark all tee spots and pin spots for the new layout. Next week we ... more

Redesign is in the works people!

We got the go ahead to start setting (temporarily) the new layout so that we can start feeling it out. This is the part where it gets exciting. No more hills!!! The projected layout for the redesign looks like this - http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h65/countcomptula/tworiversprojectedlayout.jpg

Our agenda for this weekend is:

1. Hole will now play shorter inside first cluster of trees
2. This hole will now play from the handicap spot to old #1 basket position
3. Move #3 short
4. Sp ... more

Mini-work party!

OK. Well, this afternoon I am going to finish capping the alt. pin placements. We have procured a soil auger and will be moving baskets tomorrow morning around 10:30. Anyone who would like to show up to help and/or play is invited. Hopefully, these little work parties will develop into the start of a league starting in the spring. We will also be there Sun. morning to finish up whatever work needs to be done and play some more.

Two Rivers League?

I would like to put together a league and/or bag tag for Two Rivers starting in the spring. Right now I have 5-6 people confirmed and several other potentials. Anyone else who would like to join let me know. More news on this as it develops. Input on the best day of the week and/or time of day would be appreciated. I think the bag tag would work well for many different schedules. Check out this site for rules. I will probably model our bag tag after this one. http://www.raleighdiscgolf.com/zebulon/?cat=20

Every little bit helps.

Today I was off so I spent the day marking alt. pin locations with PVC pipe and picking up trash. I got 8 alt. pin spots marked today and I will get the other couple this weekend. I need to find a soil auger or something like it to drill out the holes for the old pin placements that haven't been used because they are full of crap. Pending the auger I would love to move some baskets this weekend.

There is work to be done!

Well, for a few months now a group of committed locals and myself have undertaken the task of cleaning 2 Rivers up. We have cleared a lot of brush, un-earthed old forgotten pin placements, replaced a missing basket, moved existing baskets, replaced locks, and a bunch of other general maintenance. A course redesign is in the works for early this year and that is where you come in. If you would like to get involved, there will be a lot of work to do in the coming months and we can use all the h ... more
